Evgenia Medvedeva

To me, it seems as if she was just recently fully adjusted to training in Canada, so spending a month in Russia with a new training regimen without a coach just seems counterproductive to me. Even if Brian is busy and TCC is chaotic is right now, it'd make more sense for her to be there and continue getting comfortable with the TCC way with her training mates and coaches than to not be there without a coach and a completely new training regimen.

I mean, I just hope there's a good reason. Maybe she has some sort of schedule on that side of the world between now and Euros so it makes more sense for her to stay on that side of the world. But she's losing valuable time with her coaches and training mates and apparently she'll again this season before worlds so this time seems crucial. I don't know, I just hope there's a good reason. "Visting" Euros doesn't seem like a good one.

Yes, I was also hoping that David Wilson would fine tune the libertango a bit more to make it perfect

Maybe a visa requirement? If she is not taking part in Euros, could be a good moment to leave Canada. I think Javier and Yuzuru have to leave the country every some time (4 months?), because they stay in Canada with a tourist visa (at least Javier). They spend some time in their respective countries of origin and come back to Canada for training. I don't know exactly how it goes, but I remember reading something about a maximun amount of time per year in Canada?

The visa issue makes sense as well. Maybe it’s a combination of the visa issue and needing to be available to skate in competitions within a short flight from Moscow.

That‘s a reasonable and pretty likely explanation. I think it‘s something like this.

Javier's visa in his later years was changed to work or student visa. If you notice, Javi hardly goes back to his home country compared to Yuzuru.
Yuzuru's visa should be different too these days

I kind of doubt it's a visa issue considering pro athletes are generally given special preference on these things. Not to mention the original plan I'm sure was to go to Euros, so they would have anticipated visa issues before this. Finally, I think there's a good chance her visa expired before RusNats because they're given out 6 months at a time and she arrived in mid-June. So it was likely already taken care of.

Yes, he was able to change to other type of visa, but his first years in Canada were like that. I don't know about Yuzuru these days

No, in Canada there is not special treatment for foreign athletes (at least from Europe or Asia)if they are not competing for the country or in a Canadian team (hockey or alike). They begin with a tourist visa, they are not allow to work there. Other matter would be if they enrol in some University or similar, in that case they could apply for a student visa. Some Canadian here that can explain it better or more accurate?:)
Sure they anticipated all the matters, I only suggested that maybe they rearranged the periods of time, given she is not going to Euros. I think Yuzuru did so when he was injured two years ago. But it doesn't matter, it's only another theory:)

All of that is good to know! Thanks for the info. Actually, I think you're right on the money about that and it is just a visa issue holding her up. I did some math and it checks out. She arrived in Canada in late June (17th, I think, looking at her instagram). The Russian Nationals started December 19th and she arrived about two days earlier, which is half a year since her entry to the day - the maximum duration of stay for a Canadian tourist visa, according to my super in-depth research. I've never had to apply for a Canadian visa, but knowing how it goes in other countries, you usually have to leave the country to reapply for a visa of this kind.

A visa appliation can take some time to get through and Western countries tend to be a bit annoying when it comes to giving out visas to Russian citizens. We also had Christmas and New Year holidays in between. It wouldn't surprise me if the processing time was taking a bit loger than Zhenya anticipated and this was the reason why she's still in Russia. Case solved?

I accept this solution and am glad it‘s one that doesn‘t involve drama but instead a simple, logical explanation. Now we only have to wait to find out whether it‘s indeed true or not.

Maybe we're too busy trying to find a problem when there's none and she's staying in Russia just because she feels like it. 😂

But that would be too boooring. We need this speculation to keep us busy while waiting for Zhenya‘s next appearance somewhere.

Maybe she wants to watch Javier at Europeans since it’s his last competition. Could be part of reason.
