Evgenia Medvedeva

Zhenya was one of the skaters who gave us a few words on Javi's tribute video from the Olympic Channel. Looks like it was filmed the day of the "describe in one word" video, but she says new stuff. She is such a sweet to everyone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qtOZiQPni8

This is beautiful. I honestly teared up a bit. Especially Yuzu‘s and Brian’s words were so emotional.

And Zhenya‘s... When she said: I want to say to you... just thank you. I was reminded of how she once said that Javi was the one she talked about her wanting to make this change and who encouraged her to take this risk and make this big step and go to Toronto. I‘m thankful to him for all that he‘s done for the skating world and that he continues to inspire people and help them find the courage to do what they want to in life. Even if things don’t seem to work out at first, there is always a way if you just continue to do your best everyday and work hard towards your goals! I think Javi is an example of that.

Europeans will be truly emotional. I think the whole Zhenya fanfest will be cheering hard for him! And Zhenya at home in Toronto will too! :) :hap10:

^ One thing I am so impressed with re Evgenia - even before she moved to train in TCC, she really seems to have created a wide network of friends from all over the world. Sure, being a skater of her level, that means that she encounters the international crowd more than skaters who are not at her level, but to form true genuine friendship is different from casual encounters. Javi, Wakaba, even Megan Duhamel speaks highly of her, to name a few.

Yes, I will be cheering hard for Javi! Let's get that record, Javi!!!:hap10:

Hey guys!
I've been so busy with the europeans that hardly had time to anything else.
But today I managed to give Brian the gift I got for Zhenya!
For the ones with a good memory , last year Zhenya posted a insta story after a haircut wearing the Brazilian Jersey, and the first thing that came to my mind was "what if I get her the Brazilian mascot too?"
So, Brian will be coming home with a yellow angry canary for Zhenya!

I agree! It‘s really amazing. Skaters inside and outside of Russia love her and speak highly of her. Ashley Wagner posted a tweet this season, supporting her.

There‘s Javi and Jason and Misha and Yuzu and Wakaba... And she seems to have a genuine bond with all of them. I‘m glad she‘s so loved and gets support from many skaters all over the world!

And something else I‘ve found:

Throwback to Zhenya‘s first World Championships and her first Gold medal there!

That‘s so great! Must have been a wonderful experience. Did Brian say anything or did you get the chance to talk to him a bit? I wish you could have seen Zhenya compete and maybe given her the present yourself but I think she‘ll be very happy about the angry canary when Brian returns with it! I definitely love the idea!

Aw, that's awesome! It's great that you had a chance to give it to him and to see Brian in general. Have fun at the competition!

I'm so happy that you were able to give the gift to Brian.

There‘s a new interview with Zhenya! Can anyone translate?

Based on how skates went today, and that Liza has said she will withdraw if she’s going to worlds I think we can pretty safely bet that we will see Zhenya at Universaide!

What did she do the last month in Russia?
She worked/trained a lot with 2 practices a day. She also tried to go into town and hang out with friends after practice. When she returned from Canada to Russia she realized how much she missed her house, her friends, her family, etc. Even while in Russia she has fully maintained her form.

How did she spend her new year?
She spent it at home with the TV and christmas tree (russians celebrate christmas on new years) with her grandma and dog. On the 31st she went to the ballet/theater (?) it helped bring her back into the holiday spirit/mood which she kind of lost after Russian nationals. When she left the theater and saw snow and christmas trees she was happy.

About Brian Orser
Both Brian and Evgenia agree that the Russian nationals was a turning point for her. Even though she didn't skate a good sp she felt the support from the crowd and remembered all the support she has and that it doesn't matter what hate she is getting. The reaction from the crowd was very unexpected for her. She said the first thing not to do is not to feel bad for her (I don't know if feel bad is the right word but she gave examples like: dont say it'll be fine, you'll do better next time. It makes her nauseous lol and makes her want it even more. (I think this goes more for in person than fans from how I am understanding it). She would rather you just go and help someone than feel bad for them.

When she was in juniors, she hated when people gave her sympathy after a bad skate, she said, "I'm not a puppy"

About her going on live after her short at Rusnats:
It was hard for her to do but she realized it was necessary for herself. After the support she had during the short she thought she had no option but to go out and perform strong because thousands of fans were there supporting her. She needed to go on and say a few words.

Does she cry often (lol)?
She said 50/50. More than people think but less than other people think. She doesn't know often or not but she definitely does cry.

How has she been pulling herself together for the long even after a hard short program?
The people around her have been helping. They give her extra strength.

The picture of Evgenia taking a picture of alina (thats a mouthful):
They had a lot of flowers and toys and not everything fit into the locker room (including dumplings) and Alina got a very pretty bouquet. She asked Evgenia to take a picture but they couldn't find a place in the locker room with good lighting so they went to the hallway. So Evgenia took a picture for her in the hallway. She didn't realize it would be such a big deal. Honestly, the biggest surprise was that someone else got a picture and posted it.
