Evgenia Medvedeva

The tension between alina and evgenia:
Its completely overblown. Most of it is made up. Their team is Russia, shoulder in shoulder. She never had bad relations with alina. She has never had any conflicts with alina.

What does she think about raising the age in ladies?
She doesn't think they need to raise the age. At 15 she also competed senior and won everything and at 14 she got third at rusnats. She herself was in this situation. She watches these younger girls and sees that they are moving the sport forward (thought that was rlly sweet).

About her relationship with eteri juniors:
She has known Anna Scherbakova since anna was 6. They have always skated together. Evgenia watched Anna grow and going through her injury. She said she is a very strong person. She thinks they look up to her (especially trusova). She knows sasha has always supported her in interviews and she likes that they look up to her.

Did she practice at Sambo-70 while in russia?
No she didn't. She was training on the practice ice of elena buyanova and tarasova and in constinent connection with brian (an international team). She started skating at the rink she was practicing. She remembers the rink perfects, even the guy at the cafeteria is the same (which made her tear up).

About Tarasova:
Most important person who she looks up with the most respect and admiration. When you talk to her you feel so much strength. They have a very good relationship and tatiana always helps her.

Her relationship with Brian:
She didn't see any option other than Brian. Brian and tracy won't force you to work, they will help you only if you want it too. They are very strong people and make you feel stronger. Their method s very different than the russian method which she grew up with, she is starting to get used to this new method.

Life?:
She has more control over her life. She can choose when she wants to work out, sleep, eat, etc. She must think what is best for herself.

No problem. I think it is pretty accurate but if you want more detail on any part I can try to go more in depth.

Thank you a lot! :luv17:

Where is this interview available?

Liza will probably take Stasyas spot at the world championships and Zhenya will probably be moved up to first alternate.

I think she‘ll be second alternate, Stasya will be first. She still is the first senior from RusNats. I really hope Stasya and Zhenya get the Universiade spots, though.

Probably. I just don't think the Russian Federation will have Stanislava as the first alternate in case Liza is sick and can't make it after she struggled today in her short program and her history of the world championships last year I don't think they would want her as the first alternate in case one of the three could not make it due to sickness or injury. That's why I expect Zhenya to be the first alternate even though Stanislava did better at Nationals.

Let´s wait what will happen after Euros. My bet we will see her in a competition in February.

I think it is still to early to tell whether she will be first or second alternate. I guess they will want to see how Stanislava does in her free and we need to see what competition Zhenya is doing over the next month or so and how that goes. I mean I would guess Russian Cup Final but no idea if she is registered yet! Hopefully after Euros there is more clarity.

thanks for the translations!

it's always super interesting hearing her take on things! Personally, I am undecided on the age restriction debate, albeit leaning towards the 'yes it should be raised' side, but I think her opinion on it is very level headed. It would be so easy for her to be bitter towards the juniors, but I think it speaks of her character that she can see she benefited from these same rules and doesn't want anyone else held back in a way she wasn't.

on another note, I'm just catching up on the European ladies SP and missing Zhenya so much! I really hope we get to see her at a competition soon - I'm eagerly awaiting any news

I know we all are. I keep looking to see what competition she should get. I like both Bavarian Open and Cup of Tyrol.

Yes we must wait a little longer.

I am not going to finish the translation because the link has most of it. Again if you want anything clarified just let me know.

Entry deadline for Bavarian Open was Jan 15 but Cup of Tyrol is Jan 27. That is a late Feb early March comp. If she is doing Universidade, I doubt she will do that one because they are around the same time.

The rest of the interview (google translate)
- Brian in training - what is he? He gives the impression of a very gentle person, and for a figure skating coach this is a very uncharacteristic thing.

- This is a feature, I think, and Brian, and Tracy. When you work with them, you have to work consciously. This is not the person who will force you. This is a person who is open to work, who will help you correct some mistakes and move forward only when you want it. Brian and Tracy are very strong people, it can be felt from the inside. When you work with them you automatically get up ... yes, they are not strict, yes, they do not force them with kicks: "Go roll, go run, go to the gym, not ...", they do not control you outside the training process, but in this again, and the difference from the school to which I was accustomed - complete control from and to. But in Canada now there is no such thing, and it increasingly passes through the brain, through the head.

—— Which approach of these two is closer to you?
- I grew up here, in the method of complete control. But now I'm starting to get used to another school, and I wanted to try something new. I still do not think about how I will train, I live here and now, working on myself. I begin to feel that I am more consciously approaching the sport and that most of my life, even almost all my free time, is controlled by myself. Do I need to go for an extra workout, do I need to go for stretching, do I need to eat an extra piece or not, go to sleep an hour later or an hour earlier - I can’t stay up at all, this is my choice. Looking ahead and thinking how the step I am taking now will turn back for me tomorrow is the main strategy.

About awareness and life here and now:
“Living here and now” for me is living here and now to look ahead. This means that I will try to develop myself right now - not to go to the mirror, to look and say to myself: “I work, I am a good fellow. Everybody, here and now, have worked, here and now we will rest. ” To become better tomorrow, to take steps forward in the future.

- You, by the way, after your first hire at Skate Canada, said that after moving to Canada, you started to treat yourself differently, to respect yourself, to take care of yourself - what was this mainly for you?

- It is mainly about taking care of your health. Taking care of what I eat, how much time I spend in training, about the recovery time, both physical and moral. Yes, I became much more time to devote myself to my beloved. * laughs * I don’t know, it sounds very selfish ...

- But in this there is not a drop of egoism, in fact.

- This is all done for the good, it’s not because I’m kind of “cool”: right now I’ll go and do my nails, I’ll do my hair, I’ll be so cool. This is not the kind of self-care we used to mean. That is this ... * pause * Muscles and strong bones are very important for an athlete. About nutrition - we are trying to strengthen my whole body, and there is still a very long way to go. There are certain workouts, a training plan, which I follow to build muscle mass, to be healthy, to keep working, to exercise physically.

- This is a very healthy attitude to your own body. Tell me please, because all figure skaters somehow go through the stage when their body and, accordingly, the style of figure skating changes. How did you deal with this, did you solve this problem for yourself, or was it not a problem for you at all?

- It was - was not, discuss it now, I think, strange. Some say that such a restructuring is an absolute nonsense, this does not exist. But how to explain that last season the man looked quite junior, and the next season he was already out - once, and a woman? Anyway, this restructuring exists. The most important thing is how you yourself feel about this. If you are intimidated: “Puberty, you will have everything sprinkled”, and you will sit down: “I have puberty, everything will have sprinkled”, it will sprinkle it all. But if they say to you: “Yes, the body is changing, the center of gravity is changing, there may be some problems with jumping, but we will work, everything will be fine, there will be no problems; we will change the food, change the schedule a little to avoid injuries ”and somehow you sit and take it all calmly. Yes, it does not go smoothly, there are restructuring in life, they also occur in sports, and this is absolutely normal. Yes, we have to go through some difficulties, sometimes through very large difficulties - in order to become much better than they were yesterday.

- Do you sit on some kind of diet?

- I watch what I eat.

- And tell me, please. A lot of your fans want to hear some advice, for example, how to stay in shape, for example, you train a lot, but you are simpler in this regard.

- Phrase! Will now be! The rule "do not eat" in a big sport does not work. * laughs * Because if you work and train very hard, but you don’t eat anything - “Well, I must be thin!” ...

- Where is the power to get?

- ... in a year, in two, God forbid, in five years, health problems will begin, in which you will feel that you are somehow falling apart - it will literally be so, because your body will not have enough building material. I do not tell any secrets - the secret is that they do not exist. It is necessary to study all these questions most. I read nutritional literature, I read many articles, if I don’t know something - what microelements, vitamins do an athlete need to survive in a big sport. The most important thing is protein. If you want to lose weight, do not eat buns. Rice, by the way, is also a very bad thing for a figure. In big-time sports, you will very quickly finish if you don't eat.

- You're a coffee lover, right?

- I love coffee.

- And tell me how much you love.

- In previous years, I drank only coffee with milk, cream, sugar, and when I moved to Canada, I drink a double espresso without sugar, without cream, and without anything at all. I can clean it as well as soluble, ground, in one coffee shop, in another, with milk, raf - it doesn't matter at all. I just really like coffee.

How does an ordinary day in Canada go:
“I get up at nine, maybe eight or thirty.” The peculiarity is that we can go on the ice at any time. The first training begins at the dancers at six in the morning, the last ends at five o'clock. I'm not the kind of person who can get blown up right in the morning and go for a ride, so my first training starts at 11:45. I have enough time in the morning. I get up, make coffee for myself, do not eat breakfast well - it is hard for me when there is a lot of food in the stomach. I can go to run on an empty stomach, not on an empty stomach, go to the hall, which we have in the apartment on the first floor, go up, wake up the mother who is still sleeping. * laughs * Clean up, make up, comb your hair, and there is already a warm-up time. We live pretty close to Cricket Club. And so calmly. We do not have big breaks between workouts, and for me it is not to say that it is easier, but better - one hour workout, half an hour break, then another hour workout, warm up, once or twice. On average, two or three ice workouts per day, for which you can do everything at a pace, and at about 4-5 pm - freedom [freedom]. For the time in Canada, my mother and I managed to go to several concerts, to performances, before the New Year, before the Russian Championship, we went to a snow show, it was simply amazing. There is a time to restore yourself morally, and this, by the way, is very important.

Questions from subscribers over the air in instagram:
- Could you help, like Evgeni Plushenko Dima Bilan, to win Kristian Kostov Eurovision?

- If he helps me win the Olympics, then yes. * laughs *

- How do you feel about your numerous fan accounts?

- Absolutely calm, positive. I love all my fans. * shows heart *

- Tell me about the style of clothing that you prefer.

- Basically, it is sportswear. For me, the most important thing is comfort, so that it is convenient to have a stylish look. Recently, I try to pick up bows, combine. I can wear jeans with sneakers, top wear some cool jacket, hat and a wide coat. In general, I in wide things feel much more comfortable. I think the girls will understand me, in such things you feel as Thumbelina - the feeling that you have five sizes more clothes. I love tight clothes when I train on the ice, it’s important for me to see the silhouette. And usually I always go in the bag.

- How difficult is it to get used to a new dress?

- It depends on its weight, material, length of the skirt, width of the sleeves - this is all very individual. For me it is important that the dress was thin, light, and even if there is something tight somewhere, the main thing is that the material is stretching. It is very important.

- When you changed the short program before the CR, what made you decide to do this?

- Brian and I looked at the previous short program. We both liked her, and Brian, and me, and Tracy, and David, and Sandra [Bezic]. But we realized that I was not yet ready for such global changes, and nevertheless the drama is closer to me. We turned to Mishka Ji for help, began to discuss music, it was all very compact, there was not much time - just three weeks before the Russian championship. We stopped at the music of “Tosca” - it is very strong, it chills me up. We did a great job. I can say that it was difficult, but fun.

- Is there a chance that “Tosca” will remain for next season?

- There is a chance. * smiles *

- Everyone asks for a demonstration number, of course. Choreographer - Evgenia Medvedev, right?

- I really wanted to put myself a program with which I will go to the big arena. But I’m not ready yet to set myself short and arbitrary, this is a very big responsibility, and we still trust the professionals. But in a demonstration one can make absolutely any image that comes to mind. Chris and I met, everyone knows - on "Let They Say," there I heard a piece of this song and thought: "That's it, that's what I need." An image, accents, choreography immediately appeared in my head. There were a couple of places I had to suffer to get into all the accents and beat the music, but in the end it turned out very cool. Effectively.

- Where would you like to live in the future, Russia or another country?

- Russia, only Russia. Here I am at home.

- What does “Russian spirit” mean to you?

- Honestly, I have not decided yet. There is no definition of this word, I just feel that here I breathe my native air, people around me speak my native language, and for work, I think I can live for several years in another country, bearing in mind that I will come back anyway home and I will live at home.

- How do you feel about being wooed to Yuzuru Hania? Who, who is wooing?

- * spreads his hands * This has always been, not only with me and not only to me, let's be objective; so absolutely calm.

- When will you officially announce that you have a young man?

- * spreads his hands wider * I will announce when I announce.

Announce when you want.

- Yes.

- Do you miss training in Cricket?

- Yes, I miss the Cricket family very much: Jason is there too, Javi is training there now, I’m actually a little offended that I can't train with him. I hope that Xavi will remain. I really hope so. * laughs *

About the English level when moving to Toronto:
“Perhaps English was not much worse than it is now, but for the first two weeks, when I spoke a lot of English and listened to a lot of speech, I felt like sugar began to fall. * laughs * That is, the middle of the day, training, three hours, Tracy stands with me, explains the steps, explains the technique of the steps, and I look at her and understand that, even straining, I do not understand what she is talking about, although she explains everything as simple as possible. I said: “Please wait,” I went out for just a minute, ate a piece of chocolate, for ten minutes - and I turned on right away. That is a lot of thought. For the brain, it was stress. The first two weeks - yes, then it was rearranged and then calmly, freely, without fatigue. I can express my thoughts, receive information without much strain, but it seems to me that now I will return to Toronto and I will start this again - * squinting and twisting my finger at my temple *. Boiler should cook, yes.

- When you stay there for a long time, do you start thinking in English?

- When it is very long or when there are thoughts, situations, a subject that is easier to describe in English than in Russian, then sometimes I jump. But it is very rare. I caught myself thinking that if I went to a coffee shop to get myself some coffee, then I would have to stand aside and think about how to say it in Russian. I became a coffee lover only in Canada, and my order is formulated in my head only in English.

- We were asked a question in English, I think we need to respect.

- Respect. * laughs * Come on!

- [Was it hard to get used to working with Brian?]

- Answer in English? Good. [Honestly, I didn’t know that Brian was a man, but I heard a lot about working with him. There were a lot of unexpected moments. I didn’t know what Cricket looks like, I was very surprised to see the rink live. But getting used to work for them was not so difficult.]

- What will you do during the flight to Canada? What TV series to watch?

- Honestly, I stopped watching something during the flights. I write something, draw something, sleep ...

- Knit?

- No, I threw knit, as I said. It was a splash like that. Movies ... I started going to the cinema. Usually I never went, but right here, one by one. Last time on "Aquaman" went. Then they went to the “Way Home” about the dog. I do not know, in the cinema to sit so quietly.

- How do you see the perfect Zhenya Medvedev? Is there an image like “I want to be like this” in my head?

- If you set the bar in the form of “I want to be like that,” then this may hinder development in other areas. I can see myself as such, and I can be completely different, so there is no such image, I cannot explain it. The only thing I can say that I do in order to be, so to speak, satisfied with myself is to simply work day by day and be the best version of myself tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

- Whom should Yevgeny Medvedeva win?

- Herself!

When Zhenya was talking about puberty, she said the word “sprinkles” several times. What do you think she means by that?
