Evgenia Medvedeva

From today's interview:

- Is it possible for you to do quads?
- Quads are my dream. Everything's possible.
- Did you attempt a quad already?
- Tried. Failed. URed 1/4 of a rotation...

Also she mentioned the judgement on Olympics and found it fair.

Russian mass media is more friendly toward MED those days...

Hey, not bad if she missed 1/4 of a rotation. Maybe we can see her doing a quad someday, even if it is only in practice. Which quad do you think she did? 4S?:luv17: I personally would like to see a 3A someday, I love 3As and her 2A improved massively this year so I think it is feasible.

Good for her for trying, I remember Brian mentioning in another interview that she also wanted a 3A which makes sense. I remember people mentioning on here that her salchow has really good height and distance so I wonder if that’s the one she’s practicing.

I’m not really knowledgeable on quads is 1/4 of a rotation close enough that she could actually achieve it?

On another note, I’m really curious to if quads are really going to become a thing in the ladies’ field because as far as I know only the Eteri girls are actually doing them.

That interview was published (or re-publiahed?) today, but it was taken after her free skate at the Olympics. So, she must have been training quads last year and we don’t know if she is still doing it this season.

Probably not this season.. she had to many things to think about to lose time with quads. Anyway, I still stand by her doing a 3A someday. With Liza and Rika (and probably Sofia in the future) doing them regularly in seniors, the next big thing is doing 3A. I don't think quads are that big now... I mean, we don't still know if the Wunderkids will retain them for long, but a 3A is more sustainable for the body. Mao did them until she was 26 iirc.

It just crossed my mind that there was no exhibition at the Cup Of Russia. Is this the case cause it's such a small event? 🤔

From what Brian and Doug Haw (?) have said, she hasn't been training them this season. Which is probably good because IMO she's just starting to get her form back. It's possible she's been trying to get her 3s and 2a to a place where she feels comfortable trying to add another rotation, though. Brian said she wants to do 4s and 3a. Doug said she wants to do a 3a.

Offseason would probably be a good time to start training one or the other seriously, though. It seems like all of the Russian and Japanese ladies are training 3a or quads nowadays, even Satoko who has tiny jumps. I wouldn't want her to get too far behind.

Mirai started training 3A at 22 and did it at 26. I totally believe in Zhenya. I think her 3s is really great and she has a head start training 4s compared to 3A because her 2A is just adequate. But at the same time, seems like 3A is more sustainable and consistent for ladies than quads. I support her trying to train either one as long as her body is the first priority.

Mirai is 25  (her birthday is the day before mine, but I'm older than her  ) But I get what you mean. Also a 3A is not that size dependent, both Mao and Mirai are 1.63m which for figure skating is being a FAQ-ing tower; Midori is super tiny (1.45m), and Rika and Liza are medium size (around 1.55m) .. so a 3A is more versatile than a quad. But it is true that the Salchow is her best jump.

I don‘t know that this was about but Zhenya‘s laughing about something. Can anyone translate the caption because I don‘t get what the automatic translation says, it doesn‘t make sense...

About 3A and quads: Well, not now. I think once her body and mind are ready, her team and her will start to train them. Step by step. First get her current layout consistent, then try to upgrade, maybe in the off-season. As long as she watches out for her body, I‘m fine with that. I think 3A is not that likely but maybe a 4S. But still, these ultra-c elements are a different caliber. I believe in Zhenya and her decision but I will reserve my judgment on whether it‘s possible. Right now, I‘m not that confident but I‘ll surely cheer her on. Her team and her will know what to do.

Rika Kihira is training 4S seriously & planning to have a quad in her program next season.
Kaori Sakamoto is training either 4T or 4S.

Basically with the Eteri quad girls moving up to senior next season, the other Russian ladies & top Japanese skaters are training quads

From MED interview:

- I lost Olympics due to lack of time to completely heal my leg.

As soon as we all know it already and new event before Olympics that she's not in her optimal conditions there is nothing new. And I see no shame to her. No so little number of good sportsmen/women who could not participate in Olympics or were below optimals due to injures, sickness etc.

Yep we all knew that if she had been 100 percent fit she would have won, no matter what anyone else says, ..she wasn't fully recovered had she been we would have had another Olympic champion
