Evgenia Medvedeva

Misha Ge is at Toronto Airport ... hopefully he’ll go to TCC and fix Zhenya’s Step Seq? + polish Tosca?

Rika Kihira is training 4S seriously & planning to have a quad in her program next season.
Kaori Sakamoto is training either 4T or 4S.

Basically with the Eteri quad girls moving up to senior next season, the other Russian ladies & top Japanese skaters are training quads

And so the fall fest begin...

From MED interview:

- I lost Olympics due to lack of time to completely heal my leg.

As soon as we all know it already and new event before Olympics that she's not in her optimal conditions there is nothing new. And I see no shame to her. No so little number of good sportsmen/women who could not participate in Olympics or were below optimals due to injures, sickness etc.

Where can I find the rest of this interview?

Zhenya´s fangroup gave her a present in the train on the way to Moscow:)

I love all the things her fangroup's doing to support her! So much dedication is lovely.

Misha in Toronto... that's potentially interesting.

Ok I love this photo :luv17: https://www.instagram.com/p/BuQ7gW_nl1g/?hl=en
Just look at her hands :luv17:

Oh my, the photo is perfection!

And some more great photos, from Mikhail Sharov who might just be my favourite fs photographer. You can frame every photo.

No matter what this girl does/or doesn't do, people will hate. It's disgusting. Why is Evgenia the most hated Russian female skater? It was like this from day 1 since she stepped on the senior podium. I could understand the drama with Adelina at Sochi, but this .. I don't.

I don't understand it. It's so upsetting.

Where is it coming from? With Adelina the hate omes from outside Russia. Zhenya took sambo 70 and Eteri to new heights. There should be no hate for her. I think the intrnet is to blame for some of this.

Zhenya seems to have figured out how to deal with it and it’s directed at her. My advice to you would be to ignore the critics.

Zhenya has her own mind, is not too afraid to speak up and is brave and gutsy. People tend to dislike that. ;)

No, seriously, the hate Zhenya’s got over her career is something that still makes me shake my head in disbelief. I have tried to understand it...

Well, first, we had a young girl with seemingly unbreakable confidence, who went out onto the ice and just did everything she could, because that‘s what she knew and that‘s what she would do. And she started to win things. And then some more. And then she didn‘t stop and people started to become worried. They generally don‘t like athletes who never seem to lose. And on top of that, Evgenia didn‘t have the perfect technique. She had (has) a flutz and pre-rotation and yet she kep winning. Of course, she also had artistry and was well-rounded since her senior debut but let’s keep it simple. She mostly won because what she had was astonishing mental strength. It takes a lot to be on the top after your first senior year of winning everything, knowing you‘re the one everyone‘s chasing. And she did it calmly, went out there as if this was the only thing she‘d ever known, to be on top, to lead, not a sign of uncertainty on her face. I‘m sure she must have felt it - but she didn‘t show it and that‘s what makes people nervous.

So, first, she started getting hate for doing just this - winning. And making it look easy in the process. I don‘t think she cared too much because it mostly came from outside her circle, outside her country. As long as she was loved by Russia, by her home, everything was fine. Then came the Olympic year, her injury, we all know that story. And all of a sudden there was someone who could do it, beat the unbeatable, the unstoppable. I remember all the spiteful videos, glorifying Alina to put Zhenya down. (To add, they didn‘t seem to like Alina as a person all that much, they liked her only for being the one who would/could/should stop Zhenya from winning the OGM)

During and after the Olympics Zhenya got a lot of support from Russia. I remember her fans giving a third Olympic Medal to her afterwards. It was only after the coaching change and her move to Canada that some things started to change. It was kind of ironic, people that used to hate on her suddenly started liking her and those who previously “loved“ her turned against her. (I believe that it wasn‘t explicitly her but rather the hate/love of a certain coach that made them change their opinion this quickly)

I mean, now we know that it‘s a small but vicious part that‘s hating and sadly, the hater.s are usually the loudest. I think that was what got to her most of all. Her own people she had done so much for telling her she was a traitor. I‘m glad that all the Russian fans who still love Zhenya showed at Russian Nationals and the Cup Final that they are there for her, now more than ever. That they started to be loud, louder than all those terrible people who hide behind their screen and type terrible messages about a teenaged girl. So, it might seem like she is really hated because if you look at some kinds of forums, well, she just is. But most fans keep to actually supporting her and not spend time fighting randomn people on the internet. There‘s no use in that. I think, to a smaller extent, we see it with the Russian ladies thread. How often do we really bother to call out some (!) of the people there, if all they do is repeat the same senseless things anyway?

So, yes, she IS getting a lot of hate which I also still fail to understand. I guess, normal people are supposed to fail to understand because they woule never try to actively ruin someone’s confidence by spreading hateful messages all over the internet, even if they disliked this person. She was hated for winning, then for losing, for not dominating anymore, for changing coaches, for experimenting, for being herself. Probably also for daring to breathe at all and steal the valuable oxygen of some other poor skaters.

Basically, if you ask some people, Zhenya could literally win the next three World titles and she would still be hated BY SOME. For winning unfairly, for daring to take a World spot at all even though that‘s not her decision. You can name it. If you want to find a reason to hate, you always will. Spreading hate is probably one of the easiest things to do. Maybe that‘s why those people do it. Easier to blame their troubles on a young woman and write nasty stuff about her than deal with them in the real life. ;)

But honestly, I don‘t care too much about that anymore. Of course I‘m still shocked occasionally by how nasty people can actually be (and choose to be) but not as much as I used to. I, for one, am glad to support such a headstrong, determined and intelligent woman. And if some feel the need to put her down... well, that tells more about them than it does about her anyway, right?

I think, in the end, the only way to deal with it is not to deal with it. Ignore it and spend the time on supporting her instead. This will help her more than if we try to forcibly shut those people up. Let them talk. Zhenya will go her own way anyway. And we can cheer her on during her journey. :)
