Evgenia Medvedeva

I was thinking red lipstick or a brighter lip color for her free skate would look really nice with her dress.

I think the same! Red lipstick would be dramatic.

For SP, at first I thought maybe she looked a little pale - but well, Tosca is jumping from a building, so I thought ok, appropriate...

She is wearing a lot of nude lip colors lately so that may be why.

True, not necessarily a negative - but may contribute to looking pale, which may give the vibe of nervousness while skating. Of course I am clearly overthinking this, but that's what I do generally

I really hope she's in Japan already in order to get rid of the jet lag in time!!

That would be great. First practice is on Monday, so two days to get rid of the jetlag would be good. But where would she train those two days? It‘s not like in Russia where she can stay at Buyanova‘s rink. I‘ve always wondered where skaters can stay if they arrive earlier for competitions. And who pays for it? But given that her team has had the send-off already, maybe they‘re flying to Saitama today.

Didn‘t Gabby make a comment when they‘d be there? Monday, or something? That would be for the first official practice... not optimal. I hope they‘re there ealier than that.

Jason left this morning, so hopefully Evgenia’s also on the way

So they're not flying all together? I'm afraid she won't have enough time to adjust. 🙄
Hanyu wasn't on that team photo so I guess he was smart enough to fly to Japan early.

he was in the picture with them yesterday, though i’m not sure how recent that one is. i believe gabby mentioned them flying out the 16th (so today), which if true isn’t bad imo. they’d still have about a day to adjust before the first official practices on monday.

Doesn't mean they're not flying together. Except for Yuzu, sure, but he naturally has a place he can stay at and also might want to check in with his doctors while he's there or has contractual obligations to fulfill in Japan. The rest of TCC are probably still flying together.

Evgenia didn't have any URs at RCF did she? I'm so bad at telling. I only just looked at the SP and some comments were saying the Axel and loop are UR? Someone more knowledgeable than me please clarify.
Anyways, I just hope that if she gets called out for URs at Worlds, then all the other competitors with URs do too. A lot of them have UR problems. Also, a lot of skaters have flutz or flat edge but it seems like only Evgenia only has the reputation for it. :(
I really hope she skates clean. I would love to see 2 clean programs from her :) Especially her FP, I have grown to love it so much.

The Canadian team flies down in groups over a couple of days. air Canada has flights from Montreal and Toronto. The hotel rooms are provided for a fixed amount of days and I remember Patrick Chan saying that no meals were included after he skated....he thought it was crazy as he never ate before but had to pay for his meals after!

Regarding ice time I know that for big events Skate Canada purchases ice time for their athletes ...Sure Russia would do that too.

Well, that‘s exactly the problem: At GPF this year the Russian ladies all had troubles adjusting to the jetlag since they arrived the last minute. The Japanese girls all had been there a few days before them. So, I hope that Zhenya is already in Japan and can train with the others. If Jason‘s already on his way to Saitama, I believe Zhenya should too, right?

The Japanese team always seems to be in the city where the competition's being held well ahead of official practices - like in IdF, I remember seeing pics of the Japanese ladies three days (or so) before official practices in a practice rink somewhere near the IdF venue. I think that sets them up for a successful skate, or at least takes out a negative variable.

Japan is 13 hours ahead of Toronto, so aside from dealing with the physical stress of travelling, jet lag worries me a little. The other members of the Russian team have it a little better - Moscow is *only* 6 hours behind.... :ohwell: I am just telling myself that Evgenia is a consummate professional and has a lot of experience under her belt. Also, there's so many of us praying for her success

On a different note, we are on page 977 of this thread! We will probably reach 1000 soon  I am happy that the 977 pages of this thread have been, for the most part, positive.

Don't you think that someone would have posted a photo or something if she was already in Japan?
OMG I never ever cared about jet lag and all this stuff during all those years of following figure skating and now this speculation is already killing me. lol

I think she's en route. If she took the same flight as Jason, she will be there tonight (EST), which is Sunday morning Tokyo time.
I take a similar flight at least twice a year and really spend the first two-three days adjusting my body clock. I wish she had more time to adjust but it is what it is...

I hope there is a picture of her at the Tokyo airport with her team. Then we can relax for one day anyways. She's travelled a lot, so I'm sure she knows how she deals with jetlag. I used to travel quite a bit and I never got jetlagged until I got back home, and then I suffered for a week.

I am still like that. Here in Toronto you can get calming herb oils which help you get over jet lag. Haven’t tried it yet. Find these long 13 to 16 hour flights awful. Hope she gets plenty of rest. I think from her older photo that she travels in business class so at least she will get a flat bed seat.
