Evgenia Medvedeva

Yeah - I don't understand this decision. But maybe she just said that to the Russian audience - that they can see her next in Russia
on test skates? At least that's the interpretation I'm hoping is correct...

Well, she could have done the Russian Cup Final. Not to make Worlds or anything, just to get a good competition before the end of the season. Or some international B competitions in spring, maybe to try different jumps and the quad without pressure.

What?? They can do it? Can a skater really not compete without being assigned to do so? (Is it because of the no more than 3 spots rule?)

Don‘t want to spread rumours, idk more about this. It‘s just my interpretation.

Her remark about the test skates probably means the fed wanted her to skate and told her no international assignments this season for her if she withdrew. I hate this system.

Whaaaaat? No Evgenia today or the rest of the season? What about Universide? Only college-age women get to perform there and I think Zhenya performed there last year.

Zhenya wasn‘t at the Universiade and it‘s not this year either, I believe.

I don’t know what to say. I obviously support her decision to withdraw but I was hoping to see her again this season in a smaller competition. On the other hand this will finally give her the time to train in peace and work further on stabilizing all the elements (something I would’ve liked seeing happen last season). At least I hope it’s her decision to end her season and not RusFed’s.

On a positive note: This must be the earliest music announcement ever. Peng/Jin are using Alegria for this season’s SP and I love the music, I’m sure it’ll be great for Zhenya. :luv17:

“This happens everyday in our work, the boots get damaged - we change the pair, get new skates, try a few days, and you work again. Yesterday, the old boots were enough, I did everything I could and there was no talk of withdrawing. I realized that everything was bad with the skate on today’s morning training session. No one had foreseen this situation, but this happens, it’s not a catastrophe in everyday life, butit is before the start of the competition. This is a huge problem and failure." She said that the increased risk of injury when skating with old boots was a reason to wd. “I'm afraid that yes, this was the reason for my decision. It is complex and deeply unpleasant, I know that fans were waiting for me. I am in great shape, but yes, that would be dangerous."

If this happens so often why could NO ONE get her new skates?
Because rusfed was dumb enough to have rusnats this year in the middle of nowhere. I would say it's normal that a boots shop in a city like this has no boots for professional level skaters since they probably do not have any skater in the city at this level. And shipping it from somewhere else? Driving is out cause if I read right someone in here said it would be more than 50 hours to drive. Flying them in? Well if there is no flight planned there is no flight. Then she would have to get the same model and same size.

Maybe they can add her.

Did she withdraw because it's too much of a risk in 4 minutes with those boots or did she withdraw because she's injured? If it was too much of a risk for a 4 minute program why wasn't it too much of a risk for a 3-minute program?

Does this mean Evgenia finishes has lasted Russian Nationals since she has been withdrawn? I hope not.

I also find it hard to believe that with all her contacts and her coaches contacts and the federation's contacts with boot companies that they couldn't get her the right pair of boots ASAP. Even in freaking Siberia. I never thought we would be talking about all this stuff.

From what she said and as I understand it from her words, it seems that yesterday the hoots where still good enough and when she was in training today she felt that they were worse than yesterday which is I think normal cause I would guess that eith every jump the broken boot gets even worse

They cannot add her because there‘s no Universiade this year.

Because 1) the boot issue got worse, she explained it herself, the boot broke down even further. In practice she could neither spin nor jump 2) a SP has three jumping passes, a FS has seven

I don‘t understand this either. It makes literally no sense. A two time WC having to go to a shop in the middle of nowhere all alone because no one in the fed was thinking of helping her? Yeah. Sure.

Brian about the WD:
“It will take us some time to digest this unpleasant situation. Of course, we didn’t want to end the season, she was in fantastic shape and perfectly prepared. The boots were only a few weeks old, so we did not expect this to happen. It's just awful a coincidence after all the work that has been done."
