Evgenia Medvedeva

This is such a great interview! It‘s so amazing to think that Zhenya‘s skating inspires someone to create a piece of art in her image.

I especially liked these two parts:

“As I wrote in my instagram: The universe seems to speak to us through her. I didn‘t write this to talk in big words. We, essentially, are energy. The universe is energy. She is an athlete, so she is pure energy.“

Please describe Evgenia Medvedeva in one word.
“Without a doubt: Antares. The most unique star in the universe, in the constellation of the Scorpio.“

Wow.

I love her outfit! She looks beautiful

The famous red suit. I can imagine her wearing it in the future - “Evgenia Medvedeva ISU president“.

No, seriously, I love her in red, it suits her. :luv17:

i think you're gonna eat your words on that one.

I don't think so ... kamila is a good skater but i think she is in the same level of the 3A .. she will be competing with skaters with the same jumps and anna and kostornaia have more class..she can't miss anything and she will miss because I don't think she is that much stronger ... The russian federation wants to present what is the future because of alysa .. alysa don't have competition in USA so all the judges knows that she is the usa champion ... Kamila have a lot competition in russia ...if the 3a is ok she won't win easy .. even zhenya ( yes I'm still hopping) if the gets only one jump a 3A or a 4 .. judges will giving her everything

Why are we discussing Kamila here? But since we do, I'd just like to say, that, IMO, at this point, Kamila's a very strong opponent, given her BV and the PCS she's likely to get inside Russia. If she competes against Zhenya (which she very likely will), then Zhenya won't win against her unless she makes mistakes. But we all knew that from the beginning - such is the game with quads in Russia. If Zhenya wants a chance - which I'm sure she does - then she will have to skate squeaky clean and pile on PCS and GOE. I'm sure she has that in mind as well, she's always a hard worker. But I see no reason to call her rivals "weaker", especially considering that Zhenya herself wouldn't see it like this at all. On the contrary, she's already actively been watching junior test skates last season - that certainly does look like someone who wants to keep an eye on the upcoming competition and respects their abilities to me. One thing that always strikes me about Zhenya: She dreams big but she's also very aware of what the situation's like at any given moment. I think she'd do everything but underestimate someone.

In Russia, yes but I don't think this is the same case in international competitions. Zhenya can win with GOE and PCS advantages.

Yeah but this year their probably will be next to zero international competition,

EMN informed that will post translation tomorrow.

I keep admiring how freely and fluently she speaks and expresses herself and her thoughts in front of the camera.
This is another rare talent she possesses.

Someone started to translate the Rostelecom video. Will probably be finished by tomorrow.

Reading the first parts of the translation - this is exactly why I love Zhenya. She‘s smart, well-spoken, to the point and has a point of view. Very few have this kind of ability - to speak like that in front of a camera and get one’s thoughts across in such a clear manner. Most skating interviews usually consist of “I‘m happy because of my fans and want to thank my coaches and family.“ Which is just as well, I probably would be the same if I was a competitive athlete, for fear that the media would twist my words if I said anything else. But Zhenya‘s honest and she‘s not afraid to speak her mind. In my eyes; this is an admirable quality.

Some of my favorite quotes:

(About success)
“There is no secret. You are not born a leader, you become one.“

“The main quality of every leader is to get up after every failure and go forward, whether you see the light of your destiny or not.“

(About toxic relationships)
“There‘s one very important quality I stubbornly developed in myself - the ability to limit the social circle. I always feel when people are dragging me and it doesn't matter if I liked to communicate with these people or not. I had to sit and ask myself: "Does this person motivate you, make you better or drag you into the void?" Many times I had to cut off friendly ties with people who were dragging me down. It's one of the qualities I'm proud of developing in myself because sometimes it's very hard for me to say "no" to people.“

Gives a new perspective to all the 2018 business. Turns out she wasn‘t being an ungrateful traitor but rather a confident woman knowing her boundaries and making a decision to benefit her mental health. I mean, not that we didn‘t know all along but.... ;)

With the last part on toxic relationships, I partially agree from the side of taking care of your own mental well-being, but there is also nothing wrong with sticking by those that are not having a good time.

Well, I of course agree with that but I still think that‘s not what she means. It‘s kind of obvious that you shouldn’t just cut off people from the first moment they show signs of struggle and I doubt Zhenya sees it that way either - especially considering that she‘s mentioned a lot how thankful she is to Brian and Tracy and her family for sticking with her when times got rough. But there can come a point when someone becomes actively detrimental to your mental health and that‘s when you‘ve got to intervene. Even if you like those people - eventually you‘ll have to say “no“. I think it‘s not about struggling or not having a good time - it‘s about people that are toxic, literally dragging you down. I do think it‘s important to learn and watch out for yourself in these cases and that‘s what I think Zhenya‘s talking about.

Maybe so. It really depends on when the stage of feeling "dragged down" occurs or what "toxic" means, and this is very subjective for each individual person. I am definitely not going to presume to know Evgenia's personal circumstances and experiences so there isn't more to say.

From Sofya Samodelkina interview:

Emma @emma_figuristo4ka: Sofya, in one of your interviews you said that you don't see a better role model for yourself than Evgenia Medvedeva. You are a new another generation for me. I wonder what her character traits you would note, actions.⠀

Sofia: First of all, her character. Willpower. For three years she has been invincible, she was always the first one, the first one... She skates very gently, smoothly, Evgenia conveys emotions even through the screen very well. You feel what she feels...⠀
