Evgenia Medvedeva

of course...or her mom, grandmom or even a friend...

Doesn’t that seem unprofessional, though?

Her situation reminds me of Shoma‘s last season. Where is Buyanova? I thought she was helping Zhenya with her training - she should be at the boards....

I feel so disappointed in Buyanova and TAT to be honest. After bragging that Zhenya is training at their rink, they could not even support her at Test Skates in this difficult time? I hope some kind soul sits with her in the K&C this weekend, she needs some love and emotional support.

not more unprofessional than a random man...

Not only Shoma, Hanyu also had to sit alone and this always looks sad.
And, yes, I agree, the question at first place is why at all she was alone, where was Buyanova, TAT or even a secondary coach from CSKA...It is not just about taking the videos, but also about moral support.

Yes, it‘s the same as always with RusFed, TAT and co. Using her and her fanbase to promote themselves but when it comes to actually supporting her? No chance.

Also, TAT‘s always like this - she stops supporting skaters once they‘re no longer useful to fit her agenda. See Radionova, for example. Her look after Zhenya‘s SP was obvious - her support is done. And then the picture she posted on Instagram... we know who she‘s befriending now. I guess if you have common enemies you really do become friendly...

Can they please just drop the Russian cup requirement for Nationals or just give Zhenya a later assignment... I can't bear the thought of her skating in pain this weekend

Yep, agree with every word.

Overthere is like kind of modern mini GoT with all the low blows, treacheries, etc.
Just to remind that Yagudin never won the Russian Championships.

As for TAT she is very controversial to the public, but I’m not so against her. I wouldn’t judge from IG picture (where actually it was ET, who had this unusual for her big smile), you never know who went to whom, who asked for the picture, etc nor from her face after the SP, which could be interpret also as a sign of relief (knowing now about the injury).
I think TAT in general supports CSKA due to emotional and sentimental reasons, her father is legendary coach and has his monument there. She indeed can be very rude, but what she tells is usually true including for Radionova. And she supported Radionova a lot, but then it was Radionova, who couldn’t keep the pace and then there were no other real contender in CSKA. As for ZHenya I think that at first place TAT trully respects and recognizes Zhenya’s fighting spirit, will and the true love for the sport. And of course then come the politics, who is with who, who is against who and so on...

I don't want to sound to pessimistic, but I think that Zhenya's situation, it just it what it is. It's a very unfortunate situation truly. I'm sure when she picked the first 2 events, she did not expect her back injury to flare up, but it is what it is. It (maybe) can't be changed and no amount of stress can change it, so I guess whatever happens happens. I'm sad about it, because I want her to do well, but I guess the world is out for her :(

I’m trying to understand why neither Buyanova nor TAT were there for her + what she said that for reasons she wouldn’t discuss her conditions weren’t the best. Here are some of my hypothesis, but please consider I’m totally lost and I’m not affirming any of these things.

1. What if she was trying to follow her Canada method of training, but Buyanova/CSKA wouldn’t allow her? Like “follow what we do here or don’t count on us”.

2. What if she had a fight with either Buyanova or TAT last week? TAT would be less probable, as she left with her in the same car.

3. What if she wanted to make sure people saw she was in contact with Brian, therefore she herself didn’t want anyone around at the boards?

4. What if her eating disorders have reappeared and she’s in no conditions to practice?

5. What if her current injury is not allowing her to practice on ice and to work on physical conditioning?

6. What if Buyanova was “jealous”/“sad” that Evgenia would only take Brian’s advice, and decided to ignore her?

7. What if she’s depressed?

8. What if she’s having some sort of other problem we have no idea about and that’s interfering with her practices?

9. What if she’s planning on retiring?

10. What if she’s having financial problems and she can’t afford to pay for some type of other physical preparation in Russia? I mean, why did Brian say she wasn’t being able to work on body conditioning outside the ice? Because of the injury?

I know is no one’s business, but she’s a public person. She never explained the Japan situation. She’s not explaining this. She doesn’t have to. But her silence makes her fans die inside.

I agree. It's unfortunately but there's really nothing to be done in this situation except to hope and pray that she is recovering. the confirmation that her back injury and not a one off thing answers a lot of questions in hindsight, and it's just not something that can be hidden for much longer. No matter what, Zhenya always brings it. The way she looked during most of test skates, she was clearly going through something. I'm guessing and hoping that Zhenya's fans in Russia have mobilized and have thought of a way to try and boost her morale. She knows at least that there are loads of people who love her and are rooting for her!

One sad thing is that she probably missed the time window that would make it possible to have surgery and keep skating. This type of surgery requires lots of time off and lots of physiotherapy to recover.

The only time she could have done it was between Olympics and moving to Canada. She would have probably missed that season and wouldn’t have won bronze at Worlds.

Without surgery AND skating, she’ll always have these flares. That’s really troublesome. She’s probably using high dosage of opioids and corticosteroids injections to put up with the pain, and this pain flare requires rest. I honestly don’t know how she’s even walking without crying out of pain.

.

I think the likely scenario is that neither Buyanova nor TAT are her coaches and that's why they're not at the boards. Buyanova and TAT have no doubt been helpful and gracious toward Zhenya but I've always seen Buyanova as just someone who allows her to skate at her CSKA so that Zhenya doesn't have to skate at Sambo, and TAT as her mentor. I think they have been supportive in getting her ice time, but it's not the same as in TCC. I don't think they have been coaching her or have been there for every one of her training sessions. And especially if her training sessions have only been in the mornings like they used to be. Also, remember that Zhenya is a guest at CSKA and therefore probably doesn't enjoy the same privileges as some of the other skaters there.

I think the most important difference is that Evgenia has been unable to do the same off ice training. I assume that whatever they do at TCC helps her back and her confidence in herself after a couple of rough seasons. The field in Russia is tough, yes, but Evgenia IS only 20. She's stated that she wants to skate at least through next year, and who knows? Alena Leonova was on the national team until she was 26

Where is Buyanova? To me she mailed it in after Adelina won Sochi gold. At least with the women. But we all figured she would pay full attention to Zhenya one of the greats.

Jeanie came up with a good idea for Zhenya to do a watered down version of her free skate. I cant believe Cup 1 is so soon after tests skates. I dont blame skaters who pulled out tests skates. It ws sort of messy and then with many thousands of people in attendance withut masks. Oh vay.

I think even if Zhenya pulls back a bit for Cup 1 she will be fine. She just has to be patient with herself. She is much tougher than she looks. Her sport is beautiful and brutal at the same time. Evengia is a survivor and a great example for the younger skaters.

Test skates was a mess. They let Sofia skate with a fever and her coach is around 80. Covid is airborne for days. Not good strategy.

Can someone from Brians team like his version of a young Sergei fly to Moscow to work with her? Would the fed pay for that or is that Zhenyas dime? You know we almost always overlook the assistant coaches and look at what Rozanov leaving TT for Plushenko has to to ladies figure skating. That changed everyhting. Does Brian have his version male or female of Rozanov? Having someone from TCC could help her alot even if its only for a couple week. Covid has caused so many problems. My God. I think Zhenya could be feeling much better for Cup 1 and that could change everyhting for her in a good way.

Oh my gosh this is an amazing post. Not sure I've ever read you so deeply angry without raging of course. But your points were delivered with a sledgehammer! :eeking:

I hope what you say about TAT is not true. That would cut deep for Zhenya. But some of the things TAT has said about Radianova and others are terrible. I do not see anything coming like that from her about Zhenya. TAT knows she would feel the wrath.

Maybe Zhenya will surprise all at cup 1.
