How is fluture?

Look I saw the signs of this last weekend with TAT and EG hugging and EG cheering on Zhenya. I didnt want to cause a riot here or RLT so I didnt say anything. But the signs were there for this unlikley reunion. But the wrldwide pandemic changed alot of things in life and sports. Zhenya could never get back to TCC in Toronto so what was she supposed to do? Stay with Buyanova and TAT? Nyet!
I was glad that Brian at least confirmed yesterday what many assumed, that Buyanova and TAT were not coaching her at all, that they were only providing ice time (not even enough of that), TAT seemed to have only worked on the SP choreo and nothing else, and that Zhenya was coaching herself all this time except the three video calls per week. Pretty much explained why no one was there for Zhenya at Test Skates and why she was in that shape. As Brian said: She needed a coach in Russia ASAP.

I'm surprised, like everyone else, but I will always support Zhenya. I'm very sad that several are acting in such a defeatist and negative way, practically saying that Zhenya is a cripple who can no longer skate. We have NO IDEA of what is wrong with Zhenya's back, speculating about degenerative diseases and chronic injury is quite ridiculous - Russian media misrepresents many things, and Zhenya herself has never said anything about it, so I will not speculate. I certainly don't trust Eteri as a person as she's too emotional and inmature, just looking at the photo and seeing her devilishly happy smile gives me the chills. But ... I'll be positive, Zhenya is an adult, and the most popular athlete in Russia, did you hear the cheers in the tests? the highest went to Zhenya. I will trust that there was a negotiation, that she has kept the programs is a good sign: it means that Eteri did not put a requirement to do everything under the tutelage of her team. I will trust that both spoke as adults and resolved most of the conflicts. Undoubtedly this was the fault of the Pandemic, there were not many options, and apparently in Russia they have taken it well, since both the followers of Zhenya and Eteri on Instagram have increased.

Other things that I also find exaggerated: Zhenya has never had natural flexibility, it's obvious that if she does not stretch or train this aspect she will not be able to do the spins. Her thinness: she is not naturally muscular either, especially her legs, they have always been thin, her torso doesn't show her ribs and when she bends over you can see the rolls of her belly, so I don't worry much about this; she doesn't look anorexic, god.
I consider that she should take protein supplements to be able to develop her muscles, especially those of her back, remember that she is vegan now, that also has a lot to do with it.

Anyway, just wishing the best for this wonderful and brave girl.

I found out about the coaching switch at work and may have shed a tear or two at my desk :(

Now I've had time to think it over it makes logical sense but I'm not going to lie I am worried. The clips showed Zhenya jumping already and we now know her back is injured...I just hope that this time around she has more control over how she trains. She herself knows and said that Eteri's method isn't for adult bodies so I'm holding out hope that she and Eteri can create a training plan that includes the best of both the Russian and Canadian way. If they get it right it could help create a better atmosphere for other students of hers too. I just hope it's not at the risk of Zhenya's health, mental and physical.

Anway, enough speculation lol.
So much love and support to Zhenya right now, this change cannot have been easy for her. And a huge huge thank you to Brian, Tracy, and TCC for everything they've done for her over the last two years. Brian said in an interview "I think I showed her how to love skating again" and I think he's right. I hope we get to see Zhenya and Brian work together in the future again, but if these two years were it then they were pretty amazing, right?

The main criteria for including candidates in the national team
Russian teams are the results shown by the athletes, for which on
in the following competitions, you must take the following places:
World Cup:
* single skating 1-18
European Championship:
* single skating 1-12
The world championship among juniors 1 – 10
The stages of ISU Grand Prix:
* single skating 1-8
championship of Russia:
* single skating 1-8
Russian Cup Final 1-5

Agreed. It was such a tough situation for Zhenya. Everything was going against Zhenya and she gor frustrated and said I cant do this anymore!

Fans supported her departure from TT now Zhenya deserves the same support for doing what she has to in her heart do for her career. She wont be pushed around. If she injured and cant perform she wont skate. She is more in charge than she used to be. But now Evgenia can transition into whatever else in her career after the next olympic cycle. And who know lighting may strike and Zhenya could be really good again. Thats what she is counting on. She did not want to leave Brian and she did not want to go live and train in St. Petersburg so what was she to do? She outgrew TT in 2018 now she's back looking for success she felt no other team besides TCC could give her. Zhenyas hands were tied. Remember root for the skater not the coach just like before 2018. That will make this easier.
Fluture‘s alive. Lost a few brain cells but nothing too dramatic haha.

On a more serious note, though, I am not happy with these news for a number of reasons. I‘ll try to state them but let me preface this by saying that I‘ll be taking a break from figure skating for a while for my mental health. I just got too invested and it‘s not good. But I couldn‘t resist posting here when I saw the forum was open again. :D

Now, for Zhenya. I think you all know my thoughts on Eteri. I don‘t hate her or anything but basically, I disagree with the majority of her methods and the way she treated Zhenya in the media after the 2018 fallout doesn‘t and will never sit well with me. So, for my favorite skater to return to train with someone who literally tried to ruin her image is a big blow. I have more dramatic views than that, to be honest, but let‘s say it like that.

Now, as someone who‘s been a Zhenya-stan for a while, I am obviously not hopeful in the slightest that this is going to work out for both sides involved. However, if it does and Eteri manages to help her, I will shut my mouth about her. I can promise as much as that.

Some of the things that concern me:

1. Zhenya‘s back injury is flaring up yet she‘s seen drilling 3-3 combos like in the good old days. From Brian, we also know she‘s actively training the biellmann again, which makes no sense given that she‘s previously stated she would never be able to do it again. This, combined with her overall worrying return to her 2018 looks, makes me scared that she‘s gone back to old, dangerous habits after being away from TCC for too long.

2. The technique on those jumps in the short documentary looked...not good. Let‘s say it like this: I am baffled how she thinks it will work for her again after it stopped working in 2018. Furthermore, Eteri has been very vocal about her not adapting her methods for anyone. So, Zhenya will have no chance to take some of the TCC techniques with her. It‘s going to be Team Tutberidze‘s way or none at all.

3. Her and Eteri acting as if nothing ever happened is just... so weird overall. Something DID happen, for the both of them and they‘ll never be able to go back to how it was. Never. Now, I do think the two of them had a unique bond and I quite liked seeing them as a duo in Zhenya‘s first two senior seasons. But that relationship stopped working a while ago and I‘m just not sure, given the mud flung from both sides, whether it can be resurrected without hurting both sides - but especially Zhenya - in the process.

Now, I‘ll try to add something positive, despite me feeling mostly sad and defeated about this all:

Eteri has known Zhenya for a long time, she practically watched her grow up. Maybe she can restore her confidence in one way or another. I sincerely want to believe that.

I’m also happy they managed to reconcile. I never wanted it to happen like this but it did and I’ll have to get used to it.

Also, on an unrelated note, I believe if anyone can add the necessary dramatic flair to the SP, it is Eteri.

(I just hope Daniil stays far away from her. But he didn‘t look too happy about the situation anyway. LOL)

So, no, I‘m not happy. I‘m sad and quite devastated, actually. Simply because I don‘t believe Zhenya, who‘s already chronically injured, will survive Eteri‘s methods for more than a few months. And then what? She can‘t go back to Canada, she has basically no one at the moment. I do fear the worst, which, again, is why I‘ll step back for some time, get a grip and hopefully come back with my head clear and less emotional involvement clouding my judgement.

On any rate, a part of me will always love Zhenya. I don‘t think this is going to stop. But for the sake of this fanfest, I‘ll let you take over and spread positivity for a while. Just because I don‘t think I can, right now. :)

Quite the rant lol. But that‘s basically how it‘s been since I first saw the news on my instagram yesterday.

I still feel like this is all a bad dream.

I'm very sad and it's hard to see any positivity in this situation. Mostly I'm sad for Zhenya, because this is a decision made out of terrible circumstances and not what her heart wanted. Obviously I'll continue to root for her but I'm seriously concerned about both her physical and mental health.

Logically, I understand it, but that doesn't make me hate this development in any less.

Well, I am shocked by this turn of events, as I really did not expect it at all, but if this is what works for Evgenia, this is what works. I am glad that she and Eteri appear to have reconciled, and I am also relieved that she has withdrawn from the first stage of the Russian Cup, which will give her a chance to build up her stamina and allow her some downtime for her back. I admit I'm curious to see what her moves will be at the end of the season, whether she returns to TCC, or if she stays in Russia, but right now, I'm just happy that she's got a coach and a team who can be at the boards for her, and whom she is familiar with. That's got to be so much better than skating alone.

I agree with everything you said. The only thing I can add (it's a pure speculation) is that I think RusFed played a BIG role in this. And I don't mean it like they helped with the "negotiations", no, I think they, let's say, voiced their wishes. Again, it's just what I think. On the other hand, I feel kind of awful because a tiny part of me was excited for this drama because only figure skating in Russia can distract you from real life. And I needed to remind myself that these are real people we are talking about. Anyway, enough with this rant, I will always root for Zhenya, I truly hope I'm wrong and this will work out. I will still watch her, but now I will be much calmer (At least what I told myself:D)

I love your Avatar, when was this picture taken?

And I'm crying. :cry:
The photo was from a Nike photoshoot that was published today.

Me too. I was crying all day yesterday, I was trying to stay strong, but then Zhenya posted that photo with Brian and Tracey and I truly lost it. They were in my opinion the perfect coaches for Zhenya and to imagine that Zhenya will likely never return to TCC was too much for me.

To lighten everyone's mood a little bit I will say this. Zhenya really can't go to this one channel (NTV). She went there a few weeks ago and before that it was March of 2018:unsure::D
