Evgenia Medvedeva

Someone shared on Telegram, what they think the story of Zhenya's Masquerade is really about. The person does not think that Zhenya is portraying the protagonist Nina as everyone thinks and came up with two theories of their own, I really love both.

"I put off writing this text until the end of the second stage of the Russian Cup, because I wanted to understand, thanks to the suit, whether I was mistaken (and I am 99% mistaken) in my theories. But I can only support the athlete and her fans by expressing my thoughts. This is the most subjective theory from the person who ate the dog at the source.
Namely - the Masquerade of Zhenya Medvedeva.
In the beginning, I want to explain why I reject the idea that Evgenia skates the image of Nina Arbenina. The mood of the program and Nina's line are polarly scattered, they could not take place at one ball, since, after all, Medvedeva's heroine dies in the final, not at a decline, but at a peak.
As a result, I have two theories, most likely invented by me.
First, Evgenia plays Arbenin in the first theatrical version. "Masquerade" was banned for a long time, and the first production took place at the Alexandrinsky Theater in 1852. For reasons of censorship and the current theatrical policy, Arbenin, after the poisoning of Nina, had to repent and punish himself - on stage, the actor Vasily Karatygin stabbed himself. The gambler, the murderer of his wife, received the punishment he deserved. And so Evgenia at the beginning of the program puts on a mask, she whirls between the guests of the ball, becomes more serious after meeting an unknown person and on the path she is a furious heroine who does not stop waltzing. Stopping is like the moment of murder, and afterwards, no less violent remorse. The final is the realization of your mistake and death by your own hand. I understand that it would be naive if Evgenia, together with Jeffrey Buttle, read the stage story of the 19th century Masquerade, and Medvedeva's uniform hangs in her case. (They mean her costume, as we haven't seen it yet).

Therefore, I have a second theory, which is also not very marketable, but more realistic. Evgenia is the very phenomenon of a mask and a masquerade. The program begins with the birth of a new mask on a person's face. The program is based on the fact that at the masquerade it is the mask, not the person, who interacts with the society of the same masks. She exists momentarily, she changes emotions, she is playful, although she hides the fire of life and a real person. The mask becomes alive only during this ball and it is born only for a short period of time. After the ball she dies, the image that man created about himself dies. Evgenia dies in the finale and this is an absolutely logical conclusion to the story, because at the next ball (in our case, at the next competition) she will come to life again and will do her job.
My such general work in the direction of this program, most likely, has another reason. I don’t want to see an athlete like Evgenia portray the hackneyed image of romantic Nina. I want to see more, and the program shows a lot more."

"Medvedeva began recovering jumping after a break due to a back injury

Two-time world and European champion Medvedeva missed the first and second stages of the Russian Cup in Syzran and Moscow. The skater began the examination due to an aggravated back injury, later TASS learned that the athlete had a problem with a pinched back nerve. On October 15, Medvedeva returned to the ice.

"Evgenia continues conservative treatment of her back. So far, surgery has been avoided. In parallel, she is being treated and exercising. Now she has begun to recover her jumps," the source said."

A source on Telegram added
"in the morning the skater goes to the procedures, after which she goes out on the ice. The desire to perform and continue the season is great. How it will turn out in the end - we will find out soon"

Well she is beeing monitored, she gets treatment, so thats good. And fact is we all knew she would train if given he chance, which may also be good , because it can be seen how the body reacts with treatment to the work she does. And besides that training also means she hopefulky gets some muscles back which would help her back

Yevgeniy Plyushchenko in an interview with RIA Novosti:

"I would like to support Zhenya, because I know what it is to fight both with rivals and with pain. It was daunting for me, but what to say about a fragile girl. Zhenya is a fighter, she is a fine person, she continues to work, to skate, she finds strength in herself to fight! I would like to wish her health, and she always had this strength and character. She is a very strong girl, in my memory there were few such fighters, and my stay in sports has been long "

I'm glad Plushenko stated this. He was her idol growing up, so kind words from him probably means a lot to her. And I agree, she is a fighter.

Hello everyone :)

Popping in because I went to Albert Dupontel's new movie premiere, Adieu les Cons, and during one of the last scenes from the movie, was very surprised to recognize the music. It took me a few seconds to realize where I heard it before, and a name immediately came to me - Zhenya !! The music was Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close :)

I really enjoyed the movie, but this scene especially made me emotional, remembering Zhenya. This FS of hers wasn't my favourite but the music is beautiful and I'm kinda happy to see I've associated it with her.

I wish her a good recovery 💜

A small clip of Zhenya doing physiotherapy at the hospital. It also shows her jumping at the rink.

Translation of Zhenya's interview:
"As an athlete I wanted everything to go faster, I expected a faster recovery but the problem requires a longer solving and treatment. I’m allowed to go on ice. Sometimes I even jump but not every day. I go and skate, not for long, just for an hour a day”.
