Evgenia Medvedeva

I'm sad that she has gone through so much, and now even has serious lung damage. :(
All I'm gonna wish now is better health, nothing else matters, even if she can't compete anymore, it is the only thing that matters.
Vandy what's this about the serious lung damage for Evgenia? If she had serious long damage would she be back training so soon after covid-19? Athletes much bigger and stronger than Zhenya have contracted covid-19
and returned to playing their Sports at the highest level within a couple days or a couple weeks. Why shouldn't we expect the same from Zhenya?

Read her interview. She was in the hospital with serious lung damage. She was sick for all of November and early December. She‘s back to training after more than a month of recovery and still has to take it easy, as per her doctors’ recommendations. This is a serious situation.

Okay I'll read the full interview. Terrible and very serious with the damage to her lungs. Maybe she should just take the rest of the season off. Zhenya has had such a rough year. We know she's a workaholic but I would hope Zhenya would not be back to even light training unless she was feeling a lot better.

On a side note what events are there in Russia that she could possibly compete in in January or February?

Zhenya could do Russian cup final in February.

There are quite a few SeniorB's she could do, if they do not get cancelled.

February.. Sofia Trophy, Tallinn Cup
March... Coupe de Printemps, Egna Spring Trophy
April. .... ice cup

I really want her to do a senior B. After not competing for a year, it would be less stressful to do that , then any Russian competitions.

i think she will be better off taking the safe route and not pushing herself to compete this season. i'd assume with so much time off due to being sick, having lung damage and still recovering an injury she should probably take it very slow with the goal to come back in good shape next season.

She could end up skating in two or three events which would be great heading into the offseason.

I also hope EG does her big show for Christmas in Russia or something even if there are no fans and they televise it to the country. But the main thing is for Zhenya to get healthy. No one even talks about her back anymore so I hope that's getting better.

The lung damage shows exactly why Covid is so dangerous for athletes :( I hope Zhenya recovers well and takes her time and Rusfed takes Covid more seriously.
It is pretty concerning that there are athletes going that recently had a positive diagnosis when so little is known about it, and will some continue to be contagious because they just ended symptoms ugh. I am happy Zhenya doesn’t have to go there in unsafe conditions

Slutskaya about Medvedeva: “There is no need to bury an athlete. More than once it happened that people missed the season, and the next they shot "

Two-time world champion Irina Slutskaya shared her opinion on the preliminary list of participants for the 2021 Russian Figure Skating Championship.
"- Could this be the end of a career for Zhenya? Why are we wondering ?! There is a coaching staff, there is an athlete who makes a decision.
More than once in the history of sports it has happened that people missed one season, and the next shot in their best shape. And I am an example of that. Therefore, there is no need to bury an athlete who can become even stronger at any moment, ahead of time."

Oh my god, Zhenya has really had a rough year. Poor girl.

But it is the right decision to skip RusNats. It scary that she had a serious lung damage from Covid-19. This is no joke, she should really not rush back on the ice, she should allow herself to rest. Imagine what her body has been going trough, in worst case, she will struggle with her health for months.

I´m really scared for the other athletes which has caught Covid recently and are planning to compete at RusNats, I hope they don´t push themselves to go there, they should not take easy on this virus.

Irina came back from a serious illness. Her words are not just encouraging, but are from her own experience. Thank you Irina. :thank:

all my thoughts with Zhenya at the moment...this year has been a wild ride to put it mildly.

Keeping my fingers crossed for her and my sights set on hopefully seeing Masquerade and Alegria in the future. I still want to see Zhenya live at a competition at some point in my life - it was supposed to be 2020 but alas we all know how that panned out :drama:

It's scary to me that RusNats is still going ahead with how many athletes have been affected by covid. They need to take some serious safety precautions...

RusFed and ISU have proven over and over again that they do not care about the well-being of their athletes as long they have a long list of other skaters to replace the broken ones. They only care about their $$$. They even refused to take responsibility for the new cases that appeared after Rostelecom and blamed the skaters for their illness and claimed they had great *safety precautions* at the GP. Did not know holding banquets with shared plates and zero social distancing and having audiences were considered great safety precautions. Wow such great. Such logic, such safety. And then they act surprised that the sport is dying out in most of Europe and co. when they turned this sport into an absolute joke the past 15 years. *End of rant* Sorry but the interviews Lakernik and Gorshkov have given the past few days really made me mad.

Irina was a true warrior back then and still is! Suffered from a heart disease, asthma, vasculitis and managed to skate many more years and win many more medals after all these diagnoses

I just don't understand who in Rusfed saw that there was a virulent pandemic going around that could cost athletes their careers and thought "I have a great idea! Let's group all of our top athletes together!" Even if it is a small risk of the disease damaging their careers, it's still a risk, and for what? What's the purpose of the Russian Cups? Okay, end rant too, but its madness to me.
(This applies to the Grand Prix too)

First off, wishing Medvedeva a speedy recovery.

But, athletes are young and fearless and don’t think they will get sick. That’s why they are at the highest level of their sports.

That being said, I don‘t think it’s the ISU’s fault that the participants were wearing their masks as earrings.

And they willingly went to the post match parties and get togethers.
Not many people took precautions, from the fans to the skaters to the coaches.

Hopefully, this is a wake up call and everyone will be more cautious going forward. Take care of yourself and don’t rely on the organizers to keep you safe.

And of course the bureaucrats are protecting their necks. But, if you organize an event, you can demand that certain protocols be followed. It appears they let the skaters police themselves, which had bad results.

Even if these events didn’t take place, the skaters would still be rolling the dice at their local rinks and going out anyway. Having them all close together only sped up the process.

I think she is more a super women because competing with a vasculitis at her level is just amazing ... not only for the disease because of the medication

i just hope they're not stupid enough to host another banquet and encourage gathering. even if they do, i hope the athletes and coaches are smart enough to know better this time.
