"Those were incredible days! & So many positive emotions that it is impossible to keep it in yourself! I tried to bring the maximum to my team and I know that everyone worked with this attitude !!! And special thanks to @xam_trankov for finding the right words after any performance !!! #TimeFirst #TeamMedo"

I think Mark gained a lot of fans this weekend. I’m so happy I discovered him and he was on Zhenya’s team :) I don’t think the weekend would’ve went the same if he wasn’t! Definitely the highlight of the entire event for me.

I think everyone here has probably seen this. Zhenya is Olympic Silver medalist, helped the Russian team win their silver medal, and played a role in the Russian athletes being able to compete at Pyeongchang. At this event, she was a great captain with a great team and I love her passion for her team and the way she expresses it.

Exactly ;) No need to back down when you’re confident in your team’s performances regardless of who won whichever trophy and prizes 💋
Her team did great. And the camaraderie was fabulous. And Mark was the highlight of the event.

Highlight of her team.

I’m not really sure what you mean by most people? 🤣 Zhenya's team got 3 or 4 million rubles, were the audience champions, had the most points in 3/4 disciplines - I am not really sure what wounds were opened?

What I did see was Zhenya having a blast, being supportive of her team, being supportive of skaters she trains with at the Tutberidze camp who were not necessarily on her team, and supporting the fact that her team was amazing. I also saw a new star in Mark K 😍
@snowflake. Great post. :bow:

Zhenya mentioned in her Vogue interview that she loves to read quotes from Faina Ranevskaya and I looked some of them up and had to laugh.

"A fairytale is when you marry a frog and it turns out to be a princess. Reality is vice versa."

"I've been smart enough to have lived my life stupidly."

"When you get married, you'll understand what happiness is. But then it will be too late."

"Old age is when you are not bothered with bad dreams, but with bad reality"

I love Zhenya and I loved the way she handled the event. I think it was just a fun competition and this is what you do at fun competitions. You shout and scream, and clap like crazy, and when it is over, then you hug everyone, go back to being friends again and, yes, you say everyone won and we are all great, aren't we? It is just for fun, ain't it? All the drama is so out of place and unnecessary!

All of the “drama” is just so overblown and unnecessary. Who cares if there was an awkward exchange? It was in the competitive spirit of the competition and both of those girls were just defending their efforts as captains and their teams’ efforts as athletes. Good for them. Awkward, but they’re rivals, they’re competitive by nature, it’s understandable. The entire event was in good fun and everyone will take it as a positive experience, I’m sure.

Zhenya said there are winners in both teams. Which there are. Nevermind the audience award, or the fact that Zhenya’s team won three of four disciplines. But anyone who wants to call Mark anything less than a “winner“ after that performance can fight me.

She was cranky and impolite at that press conference and I won’t excuse that. But let‘s just say she wasn‘t the only one. It was a stressful week for everyone involved, resulting in snarkiness and pettiness from both sides that normally wouldn‘t have been shown. People trying to paint one as the “angel“ and one as the “evil bully“ are laughable. Neither was innocent here. Sometimes all of us are petty and mean - not good, not nice, but very, very human.
I think yours is the best and most fair post about the team event and and any drama that came from it. These incredible athletes are very human and do the very same things we do as far as relating to each other dealing with each other and life.

I try to look at as a celebration of Russian figure skating. I wish it was that.
I have nothing bad to say about the final press conference with Alina and Zhenya. Both made their points and they both stood their ground. I mean is anyone really surprised that Zhenya would not admit defeat? She is a ferocious competitor a true Warrior and her team won 3 of the 4 disciplines and the audience award you want to tell her she lost? I think that's what she was feeling she was not trying to demean or belittle anyone. I also think she was still a little bit pissed off about the draw.

To see these two Russia's sports heroines be real at the press conference was quite the thing to see. They were being very human and I would not want them to be fake and things up just to appease people.

I look at this team competition and definitely as a celebration oofRussian figure skating greatness even with all the intensity and drama and sportsmansip. Oh yeah there was sportsmanship and a lot of it.
