Evgenia Medvedeva

Apparently Zhenya was a consultant together with Yagudin and both will have small cameo appearances. Yagudin as a choreographer and Zhenya as herself

Daria Legoni-Fialko, General Producer and Founder of SPACE Production: "Evgenia Medvedeva helped us a lot even in such nuances as the relationship of girls-athletes in the locker rooms, preparation for going on the ice, all these subtleties help to make the story true."

Well, I‘m very...ambivalent about the story line (to put it mildly) but I like the fact that this is already the second movie in which she‘ll appear as herself. Why play anyone else if you‘re Evgenia Medvedeva and can just be yourself?

I found a longer description of the plot:

"The creators revealed the outline of the plot. According to them, "The Last Axel" is the last attempt of the figure skater Tanya to make the most difficult jump both on the ice and in her life. After the sudden death of her father, a house tyrant, Tanya comes to Moscow to get into the team of an equally tough coach and to compete in the World Figure Skating Championships. Winning the championship for Tanya is not a pursuit of success, but a desire to find freedom for herself and her younger sister at the expense of a sports grant.
"Compromise with conscience, torturing her body, suppressing her fear - she lives and wins solely on opposition. Salvation from domestic violence Tanya sees only the substance of greater violence against herself ...", - a quote from the release, which also says, that "The Last Axel" is the story of a champion. It “In this story there is the theme of abuse, and the theme of responsibility for one's life, and the theme of hardening a sports character,” Daria Legoni-Fialco tells about the new series. “Our project contains a life-philosophical paradox about the innocence of those responsible. in some places it is hard, in some places it is insane touching"."
I suspect the source of inspiration for this series is the documentation in which Zhenya and Eteri were asked what figure skating meant to them, and they gave the same answer, "life".

The Japanese Ambassy in Russia shared Zhenya's instagram post about Japan:

"Dear friends!
One of the most successful and popular figure skaters, Evgenia Medvedeva, wrote a post on her Instagram about her experience in Japan in 2020.
She shares about how she felt during the restrictions, and also talks about a funny case when a Russian tourist recognized her despite the fact that she was in a Japanese outfit. We want to share with you a link with its publication
"

The producers of the show "The Last Axel" shared the plate they made as a mark of the first day of filming. It is tradition in filming to make a plate with all the names of the cast, producers etc. on it and on the last day of filming the plate will be destroyed and everyone can take a piece with them. Zhenya's name is also on the plate EvY96Z1WQAI_GUK.jpeg.jpg

This is so great. And I want her blue shirt.

"A country for the senses

Japan travel guide.

The past year has taught us to live without far-reaching plans. We survived it along with the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor, quarantine confinement and walking on schedule. The future is no longer so vague: 2021 finally gives hope for the long-awaited and long-needed rest.

Japan is still a mystery to a European: the world there looks completely different, thoughts and feelings get a complete reboot, coming into agreement with each other. About the places and traditions of Japan that will give a new impetus to all five senses - in the Kommersant guide, which was supplemented with their impressions and knowledge by figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva and director and producer Andrei Boltenko."

You can visit the website and read the different articles about the 5 senses of Japan here :) at the bottom of each page Zhenya and Andrei both share their impression https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/4704985

Zhenya's 5 senses of Japan
Sight, Touch, Taste, Smell and Hearing.

"For the first time I was in Japan in 2011 at the competition in the Grand Prix Final. The trip was working: plane, hotel, competition, plane. Then I did not have time to see anything, but the next visit to Japan was already much better. The show 'Dream on ice' took place in Niigata, where I first showed the number "Sailor Moon", and I had the opportunity to get to know the country. Everyone who travels to Japan expects something wonderful. And rightly so, because Japan is definitely a different planet. Mount Fuji is an absolutely stunning sight. The great old volcano, the landscape of unreal beauty and the mountain itself - it is not for nothing that it is a symbol of Japan. Traveling around Japan on high-speed trains, the guys and I saw her from the window and many times were going to go exactly to the foot of Fujiyama. True, as soon as we were going, the next day bad weather set in. And you have to go to Fujiyama when it's sunny and clear to see all its beauty. You can endlessly look at the cherry blossoms - this is something absolutely fantastic. The Japanese even consider their life not like us, standard years, but sakura blossoms. “I lived 25 cherry blossoms” - some told me so.

Every city has onsen, in any number, and the older the city, the older the onsen. These are amazing places, I love to go there. Hot spring water is very useful - it is difficult, of course, to judge, but all together is possible: the food that the Japanese eat since childhood, green tea, sea air, which is ubiquitous here, gives such a phenomenon as Japanese longevity. 70–80 years is a very active age for the Japanese, and this, of course, is amazing!

The first thing I run to the store in Japan is gummies flavored with Japanese nutmeg (green and black). This is a phenomenal taste, and it is impossible to buy them anywhere except in Japan. Ditto for soda-flavored candy! Although, in principle, in Asia, they are sold in many places, but the most delicious candies with a taste of soda are only in Japan. Well, my third favorite Japanese taste is also sweet - a melon bun. They are sold only in supermarkets, and it is not possible to buy them anywhere else. If you have time to drop in there in the morning, you can find the last buns - they are very tasty. I also highly recommend trying uni - sea urchins, in Japan they are the tastiest, fattest and most oily. Every major Japanese city is famous for its own dish or product. For instance, in the city of Nagano, a certain kind of apples are grown, red and tasty, and only there they are. In the city of Hachinoh, where I have lived for a long time, they say that it is they who have a special soup from the very same uni, it is called Khatin's sea urchin soup. If you come to Kobe, a city on the coast of Japan, you should definitely try meat there. It is prepared according to the principle of barbecue - on an open fire, in the presence of a chef in restaurants called Yakiniku.

I had a chance to participate in a traditional tea ceremony. Monumental, calm and very Japanese. The Japanese, like any other nation, have many of their own merits, it is impossible to list them all, but I can note this feature: they are calm people. Whatever happens - absolute peace of mind. I felt this during the pandemic: everyone, as one, accepted the restrictions and orders of the government. The Japanese also adore television, especially the entertainment genre, and are very fond of having fun and laughing at themselves.

I had a free program called Memoirs of a Geisha with live musical accompaniment using Japanese flutes called shakuhachi - these are longitudinal bamboo flutes. This is exciting music, subtle for perception, I associate it with Japanese culture, mythology, and the centuries-old history of this country. Just like the Shamisen, this is something like our balalaika. There are an insane number of varieties of this instrument: somewhere the neck is thicker, somewhere in the middle, somewhere thin, and depending on these parameters, the instrument is used in different genres of Japanese music. There are a lot of pop groups in Japan today, the music business is growing on a wild scale, so there is something suitable for everyone: from truly traditional classical music to some modern trends."
