Evgenia Medvedeva

The Russian national team was announced, and Zhenya wasn't even among the reserve team
Quoting Team Moonbear here

"Friends, let's not forget that the composition of the national team is determined by the results of the past season, and Zhenya, unfortunately, could not compete due to health problems. The presence or absence of the national team does not affect the ability to take part in competitions, let's not jump to conclusions until Zhenya herself said anything, and just wish her to recover as soon as possible."

Sofia was also not on the NT in 18/19 despite having two GP spots.
So let's wait for Zhenya and her decision/announcement. She mentioned before that things will be decided by the beginning of the next season (so September/October I guess).
Considering that she is training with Enbert currently during her holiday instead of at the end of June/beginning of July, it means likely that she will be in Novogorsk from end of May until July.

Zhenya posted this on her instagram

"I consider my absence from the national team to be fair. I skipped last season due to health problems and it would be unfair to include me on the list for past accomplishments. There are girls who objectively more deserve to be in the lineup right now. I am for the sporting principle. But figure skating is a sport where things change very quickly. There are different situations. You can skip a season, another, then come back and achieve results. And there were many such examples in the world of figure skating. Therefore, I took the decision of the Federation quite well and do not plan to quit training."

I love her mature post. And it might be better she is not on the team. She doesn't have to do test skates. And if she was on it and someone else was left off, it would be huge drama. She will still get competitions this year and I'm sure she will be ready in September for a Challenger spot.

She can still do Test Skates if RusFed invites her. Skaters who were not on the national team were invited to Test Skates before.
Let's wait. Zhenya has her own pace. Maybe she is ready in October, or maybe she needs more time. I would love to see her at Nebelhorn. Seeing Zhenya do 3S+3Ts in the showd and also bringing her 3Lo back made me hopeful

The only real backdraw to not being included is if Covid restrictions go back up in Russia, I rememeber they limited training to members of the national team. I don’t really think this will happen though. It is sad she isn’t on the reserve as #3 but I am also glad she is taking a mature approach, isn’t backing down, and never shies away from who she is and her past (posting a pic from Brian era with the announcement). Love her 🥰

Alex Enbert is in Crystalni today to train with Zhenya, looks like they switch between Crystalni and his rink for training. Cannot wait to see more training clips of both together. Also cannot wait to see Zhenya's costume for her role as Kitty

loved Zhenya's post after this morning's announcement...'I do not plan to quit training' - what else could we wish to hear 🙌

it's also so humbling to see her approach to it all. This is a system she benefitted from as a younger skater and she doesn't begrudge the new seniors their opportunities, she isn't bitter, but is a support to them like we have seen from the shows.

looking forward to seeing more pairs training and photos as Kitty from the show...then hopefully some compeititions further down the line 😆

on a side note - I was able to show someone I work with Zhenya's idontwannabeyouanymore EX and have made a new fan. what a joy to be able to share her skating with other people!

Alex Enbert talked about his and Zhenya's work for the Anna Karenina ice show in a new interview:

"Zhenya is a super-specialist in figure skating, when we learned that we would have joint numbers in the show, we decided that we wanted to please the fans with something interesting and beautiful, so we should not wait for the official rehearsals, but start to work faster. It is interesting for both of us to skate in pairs and demonstrate exactly pair skating on ice. We are preparing spectacular lifts, parallel spins, which we also plan to learn. As for other complex paired elements, we will act according to the situation. Zhenya is just getting acquainted with pair skating, of course, I told her how throws and twists are made, but the most important thing is not to injure our diamond of Russian figure skating. And everything should be exciting. We want to achieve this."
