Evgenia Medvedeva

Some snippets from the post-show interview (google translate):

"My future in sports is one hundred percent dependent on health."

Medvedeva's first interview after debut in doubles. The premiere of "Anna Karenina" was successful - the hall met the figure skaters standing, Oksana Domnina, Maxim Shabalin and Roman Kostomarov brilliantly transferred the Karenina-Karenin-Vronsky love triangle to the ice, and the two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva performed in pairs for the first time, performing death spirals and lifts together with Alexander Enbert.

Zhenya talked to reporters before the premiere - she corrected one of the correspondents on the question of “leaving” the sport and answered Sport24's question about pair elements. Medvedeva spoke with the media after the event.
“It turned out to be the Kitty we all wanted. As in a book. We tried to get as close as possible to this image. I think we did it, ”Zhenya began

- Zhenya, tell me. Some experts say that if you return to the sport, it could be pair skating.

- I'm just very interested, why are all the questions about professional sports from you? We have a premiere! Everything is very beautiful. Let's talk about it."

- Was it difficult to make high supports?

- In the beginning, yes. It's not even difficult, but scary. All my figure skating took place at a height of no more than 30-40 centimeters. And here - two meters and more. I was afraid of heights. I jumped off the support, and Sasha had to catch me. Sometimes even with one hand. It was automatic. Now everything is absolutely calm. I know that Sasha Enbert is the most reliable partner. I trust him.

- How do you like the debut in pairs?

- Feelings are the brightest, most positive. My debut was a success, the premiere was a success. Everyone is very happy. These were sleepless nights of preparation, days without food and without water. No kidding, Ilya Averbukh lived here, spent the night in the "Iceberg", did not sleep for the last four days. I think everyone will say that it was justified. The premiere will give us strength to endure 46 more performances.
At this point, the same journalist who sent Medvedev to retire during the press conference asked a question in a similar wording. Zhenya remembered. The press approach was wonderful in that journalists could completely unexpectedly change the topic of the conversation, which added new colors to it.

- You trained in Canada for two years?

- Yes.

- What is the difference between the training systems in the two countries?

- Everything is different, in fact. Other people, a completely different mentality, a different schedule, a different approach to life. How are we? If you are engaged, if you decided that sport is your life, you must be in shape, you must skate well and train a lot. Due to the mentality and structure of society as a whole, everything is completely different in Canada. Everything is in the "if you want - you don't want" style. No one will remind you of your responsibilities. I can't say which is better. It's all just there.

"Some of the supports were removed, they were too athletic."

During the question about Canada, Alexander Enbert unexpectedly joined Zhenya.
“Konstantin, you scared me
,” she reacted to the appearance of Evgenia's partner without leaving her character, referring to Konstantin Levin, the hero of Enbert.
Then the new duo answered Sport24's questions.

- Sasha, what emotions?

Enbert:
At the moment they are gone. They are all on ice. It's great when long work is expressed in good skates, interesting programs. Everything turns out the way you wanted. This feeling is close to euphoria.

- Usually, after the competition, the skaters are asked "what worked out, what didn't work out."

Enbert:
The impossible happened. Evgenia and I skated together.

Medvedeva: In my opinion, everything worked out. I personally did not have any problems. I think Sasha too. Everything went as we planned, and we are incredibly happy about it.

Enbert: Today was an important day. And the programs are complex and rich. You do not have time to relax even for a second. When at the end you make a bow with the feeling that you have done everything - death spirals, lifts, spins, approaches, rearrangements - it's cool.

Medvedeva: The premiere is the foundation for future performances. If you make a mistake at the beginning, it will come up on the next 5-6 shows. The thoughts will be: "God forbid I will make a mistake again."

Enbert: The foundation is reinforced concrete. We have just filled in the monolith.

- If there was a foundation now, can something change in the building?

Enbert:
I think it will. Evgenia and I met in May. And now you have seen what happens by July. Maybe something else will be added by August. Or maybe nothing will change.
I am sure that we can do something more difficult. But the artistic component of the performance is also important. Let's say Zhenya and I learned some kind of support, but they just didn't fit here.

Medvedeva: They turned out to be too sporty, rude. Suitable for gaining levels (laughs).
Enbert: But it's great when there is plenty to choose from

.- "Anna Karenina" - the coolest show in which you took part?

Medvedeva:
Definitely, yes. I think Ilya himself will say that Karenina is one of his most striking productions.

Enbert: One hundred percent. Ilya always has flagship performances. I spent a lot of time at the training camp in Sochi over the years. Naturally, we watched Carmen, Romeo and Juliet. When I first came to "Carmen", I caught myself thinking that this is a real ice show. This is how it should look: with an idea, with art, with choreography, with creativity, with elements. From year to year, they are getting better and better at Ilya. And yes, this is the best thing I have ever been involved in.

- Will you be able to relax in Sochi with such a busy schedule?

Medvedeva:
Actually, we do not have such a tight schedule. Everything is relative. And, if we compare with the New Year's tees (three shows a day, - Sport24) "The Wizard of Oz", which we skated in Moscow, two days off a week and one performance a day - it's just a luxury!

Enbert: Yes! And in comparison with sports camps, everything is simpler here. There is a minute to
touch some water (laughs).

- Were you afraid to drop Zhenya in the first training sessions?

Enbert:
I'm still afraid. I fulfill all the elements very responsibly.
Medvedeva patted her partner on the shoulder approvingly.

Tokyo Olympics and the future

Sport24 separately asked Medvedeva several questions, where the skater spoke about her plans for the 2020 Olympics and answered a question about her future.

- We talked about paired elements, but today you also had a triple sheepskin coat from an unusual approach ...

- This is not an unusual approach, but an exercise that we have been doing since the age of 11. It is done to develop the second jump in a cascade, but it looks really very picturesque, so I decided to jump like this.

- Are there any other jumps planned?

- As you can see, no.

- And in future shows? There are still two months ahead.

- This show is not about jumping, absolutely

- You are the ambassador of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Games in two weeks. Do you know something about your possible trip to Japan?

- Negotiations are underway. There are discussions about how I will or will not attend the Games. There is no clarity, because everything changes every week. Only before the start of the Olympics itself will it be clear in what form I will participate in the event.

- That is, the probability of a trip to Japan remains?

- Of course it does.

- The last question that can be answered without specifics. Does your future in sports depend on your health?

- Sure. One hundred percent on health."
"

"Ambassador of the Russian Olympic team Evgenia Medvedeva will remotely support the team.

This decision was made collectively after consultations with the leadership of the headquarters of the Olympic delegation due to the extremely difficult epidemiological situation in the Japanese capital and a large number of restrictions in protocols, which practically exclude personal communication with the team. In the status of Ambassador, Evgenia will carry out her mission and support the Olympians with the help of media resources.

Evgenia Medvedeva:
- This decision was not easy. Until recently, I sincerely hoped that the situation would still allow me to stay close to our team in Tokyo. Everyone knows how much I wanted to support the guys and how fond I am of Japan, but the restrictions imposed make the trip meaningless. My role at the Games is to personally support athletes, participate in ceremonies in the Olympic Village, and communicate with fellow Olympians. But now taking care of the health of each of us and minimizing of athlete's contacts at the Games with anyone else require maximum responsibility. Understanding the general concern about the ongoing pandemic, we made this decision. I will wholeheartedly support the guys from Russia, and I wish Japan to hold successful Games, regardless of the circumstances.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov: - Unfortunately, the situation now is such that at the Games in Tokyo, the possibilities for holding additional celebrations, meetings with athletes are minimized. The health of the participants in the Games is paramount, and safety protocols impose a large number of restrictions. I am sure that Zhenya will cope with the role of the Ambassador of the ROC Team, supporting athletes on media resources, a
nd after Tokyo we will discuss the continuation of cooperation with our renowned sportswoman, who is known all over the world"
