Sofia is a sensation for me. She asked me after the Worlds about her low scores: "Lyosha, why is it so?" I answered: "Just wait. At the European Championship Russians are always on the pedestal, but Worlds is an entirely different event. This is your first season. People will get used, will see you are consistent, and you'll be trusted."
Medvedeva has worked a wonder too. I don't mean it was impossible for her, but she really showed a champion’s nature after such a difficult season. No wonder she had been leading in ladies for two years. She is an awesome athlete. Zagitova too. She didn't have clean events too in this season. Each time something was wrong, but at the Worlds she was excellent. I literally cried after Zhenka, after Alina, because I understand how it is difficult to keep this level. I also cried after men: after Yuzuru (I knew what an injury he had) and after Chen, of course. When you see Chen's skate live, you understand it is possible to do those jumps, yet you can't get how he does it.

Yagudin: I was impressed by another his phrase: that he "started loving me slightly". When he said that, everyone started to phone me or to text: "Lyokha, what's going on?" I was out of subject - I asked: "What do you mean?" "Zhenya Plushenko started loving you slightly".

The whole week of U.S. Nats is a (pleasant) blur for me, but a sweet moment from the six-minute warm-up for Senior Men's SP:
Well-known buddies Pulkinen and Torgashev were in the same group. Camden fell, and Andrew, who happened to be skating by, reached down to help his friend get back up. It all took place in the blink of an eye, but it is a nice memory for me.

(I have no idea whether any photo or video caught it.)

As the junior dancers were waiting behind the boards for their medal ceremony, Carreira/Ponomarenko came down to congratulate their friends ... swooping Avonley/Vadym and the Browns into a big and joyful group hug. Adorable.​

Years ago that the gala I believe of some world championships you see Yuzuru, Javier and newbie Nguyen hanging on ice and the big brother champion skaters Hanyu and Fernandez trying to get the little bro Nguyen to attempt I think a quad salchow. Nam was a lot shorter then.
