Figure Skating in Australia

Congrats to Ekaterina ALEXANDROVSKAYA / Harley WINDSOR on getting the Minimum TES for worlds in their season debut! I was checking to see if they made the 4CC minimums... good for them.

Beautiful job from Holly Harris today with her JGP debut. 48.18 and beautiful artistry. I can hardly wait to watch her grow up.

Edit: She's sitting in 10th place out of 38 skaters. Nicely done, Holly!

So well done!!! She's 13!!! And so much potential. Must of been a big decision to move and train in Colorado Springs. This sure has been an exciting couple of weeks for Australian Skating.

Also kudos to Charlton who is doing double duty in singles and with Jessica in ice dance. Great to see him PB in the SP in singles.
Harley and Katia again were impressive in the senior field.

Round of applaude for everyone

Now, let's form a prayer circle and hope that they make it to the JGPF. I mean, how awesome would that be? :hap57:

It would be fantastic. This is going to be a tough situation though with the grand prix points. We would need one or two of the top teams to really tumble and have some of the medium strength teams step up to make it happen.

A huge decision, especially for one so young. But hopefully it'll turn out to be well worth it! :) It will be, if today is any indication...

I think it's really sad that any Australians that gets good results has to train in another country - pairs are basically in Russia and The Rest in USA . Why is this - aren't the coaches here good enough?

^I imagine it's more an issue of available ice time than coaching.

Give it time. Rome wasn't built over night ;)

And if you look at it, lot of skaters from smaller federations actually train abroad, too. Think of Joshi Helgesson of Sweden who trains in Canada, Michal Brezina of the Czech Rep. who trains in the US or Deniss Vasilievs of Latvia who now trains in Switzerland to name a few. Even the almighty Yuzuru or Papadakis/Cizeron don't train in their home countries but abroad.

Been a good night for Team Australia so far. Jessica and Ryan did a good job, so did Jessica and Charlton, and Charlton's FS was really great! And Katia and Harley skated really well too!

Katia and Harley made both the SP and FS Senior Minimum TES for Four Continents and Worlds at Finlandia!

SP: 31.27 (20.00 required for 4CC, 25.00 for Worlds)
FS: 50.28 (36.00 required for 4CC, 43.00 for Worlds)

I am thrilled we will (fingers crossed no issues) get to see an Australian Pairs team at worlds this year. Good for them.

With the scores that have received so far, they definitely are in with a good shot for making the top16 and a chance to grab an Olympic spot.

It's not just a coaching situation. Facilities and ice time are so much better abroad than in Australia. It's a lot easier to focus on just skating when u train overseas. So many rinks in Australia are littered with children playing on the same sessions as senior skaters and pairs. And so many coaches are focussed on getting more money than producing high level skaters. There is also a lot of negative drama that can circle around rinks, so it is nice to be able to get away from it all.

Harley and Ekaterina most likely going to be first alternative to the junior gramd prix final.
Of course so close, but a great result.

So close indeed! But there is always a silver lining to these things - now they can come to Nationals worry-free without having to take off immediately for another competition a week later. Those back to back comps can be really harsh.

And they got all their minimums at Finlandia! :yay: I'm getting all goosebumpy-excited thinking about how big our 4CC team could be already! :yes2:

Likely 3 men, 2 women, 2pairs and maybe a dance team if we are lucky.

Minimums last two seasons, so Katie and Matilda/William are still eligible, since the numbers haven't changed.

My money would be on it looking something like this:

MEN: Brendan, Andrew, Jordan
LADIES: Brooklee, Kailani, Katie (unless something else happens between now and then)
PAIRS: Katia/Harley and Paris/Matthew (fingers crossed for those last three tenths)
DANCE: Matilda/William - I need to check and see if we have other dance teams assigned to Senior Bs now that you can't get the scores from Jrs.

This must be getting close to our biggest Four Continents team ever.

Mark did not get the minimums at Autumn Classic and his previous scores have expired, so he would need to get them at another B if possible. Jordan had got the SP minimum in Poland in January and got the FS minimum in Salt Lake City (then passed both again in Canada). I don't think James has the scores from a Senior comp.
