Figure skating in Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania)

Since last month, I've been regularly watching Sporta Studija, the weekly sports special of Latvian state television. Figure skating never got any attention (I am talking about a featured special, not about regular news where FS gets its line in sports results when such are in), not a single time, even though a lot has happened: JGP in Riga, Sofja skipping next season, Deniss' delayed start of the season, Skate to Milano where Latvia sent no one, leave alone mutual accusations that have rocked the web. But no, this is not worth making a feature. What's worth a feature? Basketball, ice hockey, track and field - there was a WC in track and field disciplines in Japan by the way - hindsight to memorable moments in Latvian sports history, sports activities for children... While figure skating is apparently a sidekick of a sport that is not worth the screen time, sadly.

I know that Latvia is far not the only place on Earth where this is the case. In fact, few are the countries where figure skating is so popular that it usually becomes the headliner of the sports news. But still... This is depressing

Well, there is a silver lining. Given that the general public in Latvia don't care about figure skating and accordingly the officials are happy not to care either, Latvian skaters can at least get support and understanding from the international skating community and fans. It actually means a lot, as Deniss' recent Ko-Fi post confirms.

You know, these are the young people like Deniss, and Sofja, and Ksenija who will take over the matters and change them one day. So, take every chance to support them with a kind word if nothing else - and big thanks from me personally to everyone who already does!

I've supported Deniss and will be cheering him on at Finlandia and Sheffield Euros - I'm always happy to support him - hope his season turns out to be the best yet, despite the tricky start!

So Arlet Levandi managed to land his first quad at competition at Volvo Open Cup. I watched and was thinking if it was the first one, it was confirmed i think qsk's ig page it was. It had q and it was not clean landing, but it was rotated and he stayed on his feet. Estonians nailed the most part of competition with win in men, women and junior women. And somebody else wrote Nataly got WC minimums.

From my part, I can add that Nikolajs Krivoseja outskated Kirils Korkacs by 3.33 points in their fierce inner competition for the honor to become Latvia's #3 (they placed 5th and 6th respectively.; Arlett won, Kulish second with his [under]quad Lutz, Valter Virttanen 3rd).
As it mostly happens, the strongest competition was in the junior women category (Elina Goidina won, Sophia Shifrin 2nd).
