For the boys, Beautiful Ice

Hi Sean, just finally got a chance to view. I tried at work but couldn't. Anyhow, I love the technical side of the movie. What program did you use? You did such a geat job. I love the pan and zoom and the picture in picture. I'm working on a graduation movie for someone and it is all stills but loved those features mentioned above. Any directions would be appreciated. Thanks for such a lovely look at those lovely ladies.

Hi and thanks.
What program did you use?
iMovie. It is coming up short in some aspects (burning DVDs and FPS causing some shakies in the video - mainly the stupid sponsors on the board in skate vids only, can't control FPS when I am making iDVDs) but didn't have any real issues with this vid. But it was all iMovie. The pic effects were CFX additions / plug-ins for iMovie.

Any directions would be appreciated. Thanks for such a lovely look at those lovely ladies.
Ummm, transitions with the music and don't over fill with images at the same time are the biggest thoughts I have. If you look at or remember the Fumie 2006 you'll see that I used to much going at the same time and it gets confusing / muddy - one at a time with blend, no dead time. How many people in a photo should be the designating factor in how many seconds for each pic IMO. 3-4 for one, 4-5 for 2, etc... but NEVER more than 8 second for a pic IMO. Theme the transitions - don't use every trans you have in one song / segment. Cross fades and overlaps mostly and a "fancy" ones when there is a "crescendo" or something. But sometimes a short cross dissolve trans or none at all can be powerful depending on the image or music.

I do these for funerals, family scrapbooks and one wedding so far. After the ones I did for my own family I learned and studied peoples reaction to what they liked or didn't. The last 4 have all had video that I ask "what places in town are special to them" and go film it for the background and then put the pics over the top of it panning in / out / etc... Use favorite colors for frames.... Instead of using Ken Burns effect, I use the "picture in clip (moving)" to control the focus of the image. I did use Ken Burns for the background like the vid for one song and it worked nicely. The problem with "moving pictures" is resolution, and always make my pics no bigger than 4 inches (using Photoshop) and depixelate just before I size and crop them. Some lines in pics I will fully blend / blur for they will throw an array pattern like are often found on Dick's ties. Always keep the pictures properties of size, don't stretch types of things - also made this mistake, and is in Fumie's 2006 vid for example.

If you have any direct question feel fee to ask. Heck Dee I would even give you my number if you wanted to call:agree: - but maybe I wont answer:laugh: J/K For some odd reason I totally trust you even if you don't like Stacy:p

RD, I am disappointed in how little I had of Angela in the practice vid. I may have 80% of it in the Beautiful Ice video. But it doesn't have the lens flares and effects so you might like it. I do also have the 2 programmes that she skated in Ice wars but neither one of those has sound from the show - I guess I was already thinking ahead that I would put my own music in.???? I am sure you like resolution so if there is a different way you would like to see them let me know. I am downloading onto YT the 24 second clip of Angela's fluff right now.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Also, if it's not too much trouble could you also upload the original vid? YT is nice for viewing but not for archiving. Thanks again though.

YAH, that is what I would assume you would want. "Nadda problemo!";)

Thanks Sean for the directions, I understand what you're talking about. I should have remembered you are a Mac person and using iMovie. It's like Windows Movie Maker program, has some really neat transitions and special effects but not stable when making DVDs. I'm using Pinnacle Studio 9, haven't had too many problems with it so far..........so don't say anything about it until I render the movie.  If I run into some problems I'll give you a hollar. Basically all the movie maker programs have the same concepts. Thanks again.

They are extremely similar. They almost look the same. I don't know where to find plug-ins like the pic in clip one we are talking about for Windows, but CFX might make one. Someone does I am sure.

RD, what file share do you want me to load on? I can't remember what we used last time.

As the .dv file is loading of the "practice 25 second vid, I am remebering something about .dv files not working for everyone - is that right? So if you want I will load the .mov which is really tinny file size at 320 and / or will make another .mov file at 640 or more if you like.:agree:

Oh, and if anyone wants the vids on YT seenbuzzard, PM me.

yeah, I do have quicktime but just to be on the safe side, you can convert it to 640 mov

Tell me what you get, I have been multi tasking all over as I do this.I gave you her Ice Wars routine in 320 and the prac fluff in 640. Correct?

yes, you did. And a big Thanks  it's appreciated.

Was there a "K & C" after that performance? if anything I'd just want that. Don't worry about a larger version of the performance unless you have extra time on your hands.

thanks again

There is a lot more I think somewhere, and will look around for it. I doubt I kept any KnC. I normally don't. And they were team KnC moments on a white couch - well you can see it in the background in the programme.

Did you think Franks song fit that number?

I'll get it going later, feeling restless and am going to hit the town again. Maybe tomorrow or Monday I'll do some more for ya. Also look through my files for more of the Ice Wars stuff - I feel like I have more somewhere????

Any other requests? Wasn't she in Country on Ice too? I've got that too.

Oh geez, I keep forgetting to say thanks for the comment on Ira in the Alps on a frozen lake in her cat suit pic.

I'm compressing the pro posted into 640, it doesn't tell me the mb size until it finishes so it may take more than one attempt to get it under 100mb. I found the other programme that she did as the dedication to mom, and it has no sound either but I'll pick a tune for it an compress for you if you like as well.
