Hello all!

The forum will be undergoing a much-needed software upgrade on the back end. The upgrade will take place on Jun 20, 2025, sometime between 12-2PM EST. We expect this to take 30-60 minutes.

Please use this thread, if you have any questions or issues after the upgrade.

Thanks!

I have a question.

Since we moved to XenForo, when you paste a table in using WYSIWYG mode, all colours in the table, be they font colours or background colours, get stripped out. And whereas you were able to put the font colours back in yourself afterwards, you were not able to put the background colours back in.

However, when editing a table in an existing post there now, I noticed that the header row now has a pale blue background rather than just a thick blue border at the bottom of the cells. And that got me wondering if it was now possible to have background colours in other cells. So, I experimented by pasting in a table with coloured backgrounds using WYSIWYG mode, and got all excited when the background colours remained in the table.

But, when I went into coding mode, and then either into Preview mode or back to WYSIWYG mode, the background colours got stripped out. Curiously, the font colours did not get stripped out.

Is there any way that the background colours can remain? Or even a way to put them back in yourself?

The reason I ask is that, in the Word documents that I have for my Fan Fest OP's, all the events in the various tables are colour-coded to make it easy to spot what type of event it is (Major Championship, GP, Challenger, other international, National Championship, other domestic). And I would love to be able to have them displayed the same way in the actual threads.

It's not a problem if it isn't possible. We've managed alright without having background colours in tables until now. But, I'm just curious to know if it is now possible.

There are probably lots of changes that I haven't spotted yet. But of the changes that I have spotted, I like them.

Thank you to everybody backstage that has made this update possible.

:thank:

Hi staff, can the country codes next to avatars be removed if possible? Those who want to share their location have already included a flag below their username, I believe. These big-font abbreviations are a real eyesore, very distracting, and I am displeased that users' locations are shown regardless of their preferences. For myself, I would prefer anonymity, but I cannot see how to disable this feature in my account details.

I was just coming here to say the same thing. People can have good reasons for wanting their location or nationality to remain anonymous, and I feel that should be respected.

Is there a way to remove the flag from masking part of people's avatars (it's still below the name etc details anyway)?

Other than that, I think it's good, it all seems to be running more smoothly for me. Thanks to all who worked on it.

Eeep! I have just realised that the 'ignore' button at the top of each thread - and forum - has disappeared, can it be put back? I do think being able to ignore threads is very useful in keeping the level of bickering down (and I do not at all point fingers, I am talking first and foremost about me!)

I agree with everything all of you have said. But particularly @FlossieH's point.

On a personal note, I have never made any secret that I am from Northern Ireland. But, because it is a place where the community is divided, with half of the population considering the British flag as their flag and the other half considering the Irish flag as their flag, I tend to steer well clear of the whole nationality thing and remain neutral. That is why I always opted to display the flag of Northern Ireland, rather than the British or Irish flags.

But you don't have a choice with the new big flags.

Like @TallyT, I don't like the positioning of the big flags, and the way that they obscure part of your avatar. And as @surimi said, they are too big and are too distracting in that position. In those respects, I much preferred the smaller flags that appeared below your details. (Although, to be honest, they were maybe a bit too small. Something in between would be a better size). But they have disappeared overnight.

Also, the big flags are only displayed next to posts put up since the start of 2025. They are not displayed next to posts older than that. Which makes you think, "if they are not next to all of your posts, why bother having them at all?"

Please get rid of the compulsory big flags that partially cover your avatar, and bring back the optional small flags that appear below your details.

I am also in favour of removing the unconsented disclosure of people's locations / nationalities altogether. Especially disclosing a current location (or the VPN location ;)) at the time of posting by default seems to be completely unwarranted invasion of privacy whose full consequences might be well beyond the control - or even imagination - of those who made such decisions for others, just like any public disclosure of private details in the net. Some countries are at war, some are governed by authoritarian regimes who police the internet, some people might face complications in their private or professional lives if their RL identities are known to other users, whether members or not, and their locations are lightheartedly disclosed. Some might just not like it, which they are fully entitled to, and their decisions on this should be respected. There is no need for this really, and honestly I think it rather careless. :(

You guys see flags there? I don't, I just see the letter code for each country, like GB and AU and such. Anyhow, no matter what it is, I would like for it to be removed :)

We have disabled the Flag addon for now until we can get an update for the back-end :)

Seconding this, I find it very helpful to have the Ignore feature for threads.
