I love how Olivier and Isabel got the highest marks for choreography, interpretation and timing!!! I told you they had the best program in that regard!

chopin lovers - good acting
waltzing arranged marriages - so so interpretation...i always laugh in the ending
umbrella people who misinterpreted the movie..ok...they are good musical skaters who are also good in acting...
insane people (kudos to the jacket )
witch and demon- cirque du soleil on ice)

or

a true love story...with sign language...secret affair....simply genius:clap:

I'm glad that you agree 1795! I was wondering though...Did Isabel make a mistake on her second set of twizzles? It seemed like she stumbled a tiny bit there...

it looks like a stumble

*phew*
i was peeing in my pyjamas when i was watching it on espn360

there was a mini mini stumble from her....right after the no touch footwork...the climatic choreography part...*phew*

Funny thing: Tatiana Tarasova was a commentator on Russian TV during the GP. After Tanith and Ben finished skating (they were the last to skate) she said "Belbin and Agosto skated the best tonight". She apparently thought they had skated the best, and that they had won the gold medal. Of course, when she found out the Russian team had won gold, she was delighted---but she had stated her opinion. It can't be denied that Tarasova is very, very knowledgeable when it comes to figure skating and she was a well-respected ice dance coach as well.

The GPF dance panel was very well-balanced, and the Russians won anyway (from my calculations it appears that random selection worked against B/A and for DomShabs), so as far as I am concerned, Worlds is already decided. With 3 SSRs on the Worlds CD/OD panels and at least 3 (and as many as 6) on the FD panel, Worlds should be a walk in the park for DomShabs.

That is telling indeed since she is a Russian, and if even she said that, that is very telling.

oh thank you so much for this! I noticed TT was commentating so wsa wondering what she thought of the teams. What did she think of the French team btw?

And she herself said, that her father (very famous hockey player) instilled in her that winning is the only award. So coming in first is more important than the best that night. It's the long view of records that are important which even Yagudin said, I will be remembered for this win (over Abt) anyway.

It's just win any which way.

In fairness Domnina/Shabalin's FD was their best rendition so far this season, better then COR even. However I thought their score their was too high. I just wish someone who was more knowledgable in ice dance would go on TV and break it down to explain why Domnina/Shabalin's FD was 3 points higher then Belbin/Agosto and Delobel/Schoenfeldner, if there was in fact any merit to that. Then I might feel better.

Well, I watched the competition and analyzed the protocols. And here what the judges had in mind when they gave the marks.
D-S 3 1 1 1 3 2 1 4 4

B-A 2 2 2 3 2 1 3 1 1

D-S 1 3 3 2 1 3 2 3 2

V-M 4 5 4 5 4 4 4 2 2

K-N 6 4 5 4 5 5 5 5 5

P-B 5 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6

The top three placements were very close and it could have been any other order. What helped Dom/Shabs to edge out was the levels, they got all level 4s and B/A had one call level 3. Del/Shoes had two levels 3. Putting the likes and understanding of the program aside, Dom/Shabs skated with most difficulty and the cleanest of all others. The difference of marks among top 3 is very narrow and at Worlds anything can change.
What I was surprised about is the fact that with seemingly not Russian friendly Technical team, they managed to get all elements in level 4. Again these days and with this strong field of top skaters, technical panel is the most crucial one.

Here's my compilation of the judges' placements in the OD and FD:

Do not listen to chuckem, TAT never said that B/A skated the best, NEVER. She said that she did not like the team at beginning but they improved A LOT in the last two seasons and they are underdogs at this competition and doing well so far. She loves the program this season too. BUT when they finished to skate she stated immediately that Dom/Shabs skated THE BEST tonight!!! She did not like Del/Shoes skate and she does not feel like the team improving as much as they should, especially Shoenfelder.

That's all.

P.S: TAT also stated that V/M is one of her all time favorite team. They are not quite at the elite level yet but they are going in the right direction and she sees them as Olympic Gold medal contenders in the nearest future.

So chuckm, were you just mistaken? Because given the fact that "It can't be denied that Tarasova is very, very knowledgeable when it comes to figure skating and she was a well-respected ice dance coach as well", it seems TAT saying DomShabs skated the best undermines arguments about a judging konspiracy.

This person is on my ban list. The reason is simply that all he/she does is look for some dirt where it obviously does not exist. Case in point, the outright lie about what TAT said.
I am far from being sure that the judging being fair here, but I would not go as far as saying that there was some deal again. Just simply for the fact that the winner was determined not by judging panel but by Tech specialist team.

I do not believe the judging was unfair, but I do think that if the random selection was different, the result would have been different as well. It is clear that not all the judges thought that DomShabs' FD was the best. In fact, 5 of the 9 judges thought a team other than DomShabs was best in the FD, and 4 of those 5 placed DomShabs 3rd or lower. 6 of the 9 judges placed B/A first or second in the FD, in both PCS and GOE.

DomShabs lucked out with the random selection at the GPF. But they were far from a unanimous choice.

What is going on here

I so don't mind the skating but is it me or has this site been invaded by trolls...and the worse kind:

nationalists
communist
fascist
racist

...Geez...if there were ever something that separated this site from the other is that in the last 5 years or so....people came on here and posted comments - critics, disagreements, agreements but we never have to resort to such tactics as - "you don't like Russians/French therefore I am going to bash you" or "you like the Canadian and American team therefore, I am going to respond ONLY to your comments..highlighting their weaknesses over and over over" - that I am getting from posters.

Come to think of it, who are you people. I haven't seen your posts here for along time but I have seen the fans you have been picking on here posting for over 5 yrs!

Seem like you all have highjacked this site and turning it into your playhouse.

Geez..talk about the worse kind of trolls.

One thing I have learned from COP is that the best skate does not guarantee a gold medal. I don't know about you but COP gives me a darn headache. For example Q's skate was fantastic better than xyz gold for sure for Q, than the numbers come into play, PCS, GOE, random selection and Q's fantastic skate doesn't look so fantastic anymore. I have given COP a chance, educated myself somewhat about the rules and as time goes by with this system in place I feel that 6.0 while not a perfect system was better than what we have now.
