I find it interesting that IN could locate me today but couldn't manage to do so yesterday. I'm still in CT, but oh well.
Brobrova/Soloviev: stronger than at SC by far. I like them, and their Romeo & Juliet made more sense to me here than at SC. I just don't like that one music cut in their first step sequence- it's jarring and does not mesh well with the rest of the music. There's also something odd about her posture at times IMO- I think it's the way she throws herself into the moves. Still, hope to see them build as the season goes on.
Samuelson/Bates: I can see why people are impressed with them; their leg line and toe point are exquisite. But beyond that, they just do nothing for me. The program itself seems very similar to last season's FD in choreography (which emphasizes their strengths), which doesn't really do much with the music that I don't like. I want to see a story being presented (is there a story? If so I have no idea what it is). I can definitely see them finishing 3rd at Nationals; the judges have made it quite clear they like them better than NavBoms = [. Anyway, odd fall on the spin; what happened, did her knee just give out from under her? They lost some speed after that as well.
Gorshkova/Butikhov: there's something almost business like about their skating at times IMO; it's like they do certain moves because they know they need to get a higher score, and it comes across in their skating (I actually find some of that in S/B but more so here) IMO. A few minor bobbles, perhaps? I thought it was a clean performance but that's the only way I could understand them being behind S/B in the FD with a fall. And then a 1.00 deduction for a lift?
Pechalat/Bourzat: Much, much better than at SC. I still have mixed feelings about the FD itself; there are moments when I like it very much and others where it does nothing for me. But they seem to really enjoy it and that comes across. It is also my belief that they have some of the best lifts in the business currently. I don't think it shows their strengths to full advantage, but they will do with it what they can, and for what it matters, I think they should have won the Gold here.
Faiella/Scali: I'm going to echo a lot of the other comments so far; they are a very competent team who do nothing for me. I had hopes I would like them more this season after seeing some videos from a Italian competition over the summer, but that has not continued into the GPs. Shaky on the first lift, slow in some spots. I think she has some of the most OTT expression of all the top teams. I like the program itself more than at TEB; it's an original take on overused music and I appreciate that. But they (her mostly) don't do anything for me.
Can't wait for the GPF!
