Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

It's not the same error. Guillaume clearly fell in the step sequence. Scott did not, the sequence was finished when he had that slip, most judges were aware of that, a few weren't. This is an old debate on skating boards that doesn't need to be rehashed but the facts are that sequence was finished which explains the differences you are pointing out in GOE.

It's not and will never be an old debate and be sure that what happened then still has consequences today and more likely during the whole season... at least.
No way to get +2 or +3 GOEs, never ever!
Anyhow, when GOEs vary from -2 to +3 (!) for the same element then one immediately understands there's something wrong!

That was a hilarious protocol. Almost makes me sad we didn't see some faux anger at their scores here despite the fall because really, the irony would have been glorious.

What an odd reply?

I was surprised how fit and focused Gabriella was, unlike last year.

They're clearly ready earlier this year, hence the senior B competition. I also think they connect better with this SD and it did them a world of good to get an outside point of view on their skating, it seemed to have make them embrace the SD format a bit more. Basically, they looked refreshed and refocused. Their FD success at World might have also been key, as they mentioned themselves, they remembered why they were skating and why it was making them happy. We can feel this positive energy in their SD imo. It was my 101 psychology hour of the day

The short dance was fun! it sounds like a small compliment, but actually it's a big, big thing! Gabi's performances in both in terms of the emotional aspects were incredible. Both skates looked like they were being attacked in a very positive way by both of them; and the good thing is in terms of the marking from the judges they got an incredibly positive response overall, with acknowledgement that there was a fall in the free, and the short could do with a little tidy and getting used to at points. It all looks good for the season.

Alain, thank you for confirming that the judges will be awarding P/C the gold this year to make up for the travesty of last year. I suspected this would happen, but it's good to get confirmation from an insider!!

A more detailed summary:
I had already seen their short dance, I already liked, I like even more. Their musical choice does not bother me, it's modern, two songs known ... the public woke up. It's dynamic, stylish, classy and they have fun together and are happy to dance:luv17:. Even though Dean choreographed, they do Papadakis/Cizeron. The two shine but I find that Gabriella brings this little extra to this short, she does not play, she dances and draws Guillaume:clap:. She also deserves all the compliments that some do only for Guillaume:love:.
My 1st reaction at the end of the music: "what?, it's already finished (in french:laugh:)". To conclude, a little word about the costumes: they complement each other, I like that.
I am not shocked by their score: it is for me the most successful short dance.

I think I "fell in love" with their free:agree2:. Everything is sublime, every gesture is extremely delicate and marries every note of Beethoven. They invite us into their world, because in fact they dance for each other. The choreography is exquisite. Just beautiful and mesmering . Standing ovation more than deserved (I doubt this is the last:love:).

Thank you for sharing your impressions, Maya! :)

LOOOOOL
Well, corrections had to be made and "appropriate actions were actually taken" hence my little finger tells me that we won't see the same mess this season...

Do tell! Give us a hint of the appropriate actions! I always wanted to know exactly how fixing takes place. Thanks again for giving us the inside look! Much appreciated.

I prefer to let you guess  In the end, the most important thing is to avoid repeating mistakes.

Do you mean like making sure the judges paneled at Worlds can't judge again, or that judges are told how to score each team so that P/C can be sure to win?

I think this whole line of conversation is very misleading and I really think it could end up being misunderstood.

peepsquick is right so please find below my last statement on this.

First, no one expects the judges to be taught how to score so that X would win for sure. How terrible! How dreadful!

Now, ice dance wise, scoring last season was quite chaotic: Europeans were a mess, 4C was not good either and Worlds were the worst of all. This is my opinion, at least.

Now, as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining.

One critical lesson learned from last Worlds is the importance to get scores which are consistent and in sync with the actual performance. How one given element can be awarded GOEs from -2 (huge mistakes) up to +3 (perfection)? And, if none of the technical elements are impacted by a big mistake, which actually happened, who can justify program components, such as “Performance”, to be awarded 9,75 or 10?

I understand such issues were clarified hence I hope all competitions this season will be as fair as possible, at least more fair than last season. This is good for us as fans as whoever wins must deserve it. This is clearly good for all skaters. This is for sure good for ice dance.

But if what you're saying is true, why did 4 judges award P/C a 9.75 for "Performance" in their FD with an obvious fall in the step sequence? :scratch2: http://www.figureskatingresults.fi/results/1718/CSFIN2017/CSFIN2017_IceDance_FD_Scores.pdf

If I were a judge I would also have been ready to shower any half-decent team with 10s right after being forced to sit through Stepanova/Bukin's FD :yahoo:

In all seriousness, scoring at Challenger events has always been dumb and should always be disregarded.

I don't know if you guys have already read the IFS magazine article with P/C on the cover, but I don't remember anyone posting it so for those interested I found it here
Enjoy !
