Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

So beautiful, so floaty (a technical description, haha)!!! Seriously though - I have said it before and it bears repeating - they make me feel like I am flying across the ice with them, something I don't feel with any other skater(s) and never have in over 20 years of being a fan of the sport!
I am so happy for them - the win and the score - and just hope all goes well until after the Olympics are over...fingers, toes crossed etc...

That really was gorgeous. And is it my computer screen, or did Gabriella have a new dress for this competition? It looked like a more muted, purple-y shade of blue than the other one, and there were visible seams on the arms that I don't remember seeing before. And no tear in the skirt!

I think she did have a new dress! The rip in the old one was very big, and this skirt looked brand new. Also, the top of her dress and her sleeves were a slightly different colour, the sleeves looked very sheer. I have to say I preferred the old one, it made her arm movements more striking. It's still a gorgeous dress, though.

Confirmed, she had a new dress for the free dance

All levels and GOEs being displayed live, P/C and V/M got only one level3 (always on a step sequence) during the live performance.
According to the TES (displayed on the top left corner) at the end of their program, I expected around 120 for Tessa & Scott, and around 122 for Gaby & Guillaume.

But they finally got two level3 in the end.
Just like the panel thought "Oh the GOEs are so good and PCS too! Let's degrade one level to keep some margin for the Olympics"

Gabriella and Guillaume at 22 and 23 are already
- Twice World Champions
- Tree times European Champions
- Winner of the Grand-Prix Final

Their new challenge is to become Olympic Champions for their very first participation to OG
We wish they will reach that goal because they simply deserve it. They worked and actually keep on working tremendously this season to deliver outstanding performances on fantastic programs designed by great choreographers like Chris Dean and Jeffrey Cirio.
Next week they will participate to the French Nat'l in Nantes. Then they will take a very short break with their families before going back to Montréal to polish again and again their programs and prepare the next competitions.

I wish them to become European Champions in Moscow for the 4th consecutive time (would be another huge achievement at 22 and 23 (!) as Europeans are always tricky, believe me!) before creating the magic on the ice of the Gangneung Arena.

Thank you for the info...and seconding all you said about them and your wishes for them!

Magnificent performance. They kept it together and delivered one more gorgeous performance which was much better filmed this time around than in France, so I'll be rewatching this one. They looked very serene, Gaby was even smiling during the starting pose and then her face just changed expression as soon as the music started, it was very impressive actually. Their PCS keep improving with the italian judge even giving a 10 in SS !!!! The do skate so clean now, I don't understand the downgrade on the circular which was marked 4 to start with, they skated it the cleanest I've seen them skate. Anyway, maybe a cushion for the Olys indeed. Now I think the score in the Euros might be much much trickier, I hope we won't see a big drop there just before the Olys.

Don't know if it's a sign but the thread dedicated to Gabriella and Guillaume reached the 200 pages of comments today ;)

Congratulations to us on also breaking the 200 threshold!:agree: Today is a great day for G&G, ice dance, and for me personally. I am so proud and happy for them. BTW Gabby has a new dress, it's quite nice.
Was there a medal ceremony? I can't find it anywhere.

Love the new moves and steps they added after the knee slide spin. Bringing ever more out of this rich music!

Being away and not being able to connect to the internet at such time can drive one insane, believe me. Anyway, I feel like everything has been already said. Their perfomances were out of this world, especially the free dance. I do prefer the older version of Gabby's dress, but that is such a silly thing to care about right now. Again and again they carried me away with their movements. Simply mesmerising. Bravo for such an achievement.

PS: I cannot help but smile everytime they sing to the french anthem. I love their enthusiasm, it is such a nice moment, I don't think I'll ever get bored of watching that.

Yes to three times breaking 200!
Yes to being competitors who have to had clean skates over all their grand prix competitions!
Yes to breaking a World record or two over three events in a row!
Yes to it all still coming from a place of artistry!
and Yes to the sillier elements that delight us as well- Gabbi's eyebrow raising in the K n C, and the singing of the national anthem!

Here's to Nationals, a well-deserved break for them, getting to back training, consolidating everything at Europeans, and then a great Olympic completion- all in the next two months.

I love that they moved the straight line lift to the middle of the rink. I always thought doing it so close to the board was odd because it obscured that stunning entry. I love the shape Gabriella creates in the air, it's so different from everything I've ever seen in Ice Dance.

L'Equipe - Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron know that an Olympic title "is possible"
https://www.lequipe.fr/Patinage-art...ume-cizeron-on-sait-que-c-est-possible/857876

Gabriella:
We felt very good, we were quite calm despite the pressure we had, we managed to manage. This is the first time we compete against Tessa and Scott and the others, we knew it would be stressful and we wanted to deliver two great performances. We beat them, we made a new world record (the total score, with 202.16 pts), that proves that it is possible at the Olympics and we will continue to work to get there. It's tempting to say that it's already won (in the Olympics) but it's not. We know very well that our competitors will work like hell and we know that we will have to do the same.

Guillaume:
It feels good to be able to deliver good performances like today. We are also happy to see that we still have a lot of margin on both programs, technically and artistically. It's a good base but there is still work. We felt relatively serene but still focused. There is always competition fright and stress but it did not make us lose our means. We will try to work and continue our momentum, to remain confident

Love Gaby's honesty and the fact that she doesn't go around the questions, or the interrogations on people's minds. I wonder if they read the internet sometimes. The Olympic gold is so not attributed, since by definition, ice is slippery, and I expect every single couple to work until exhaustion, including them.
Luckily they have Europeans which are a huge event and it's in Russia so it's even better.

They were the cleanest team this weekend, that's why they won. Hopefully they can carry on this mindset until the end of the season.

Fully agree and BTW, thanks for this detailed analysis of V/M and P/C FD published in the 2017 GPF free dance!

What they say here tells a lot about their personalities.
Gabriella first, she summarises perfectly well the current situation but her message is that "we have to work like we never did before if we wanna succeed".
As for Guillaume, what he says reflects 100% what he has in mind. He does not even mention the Olympics or the Gold medal at GPF. He's fully focused on the performance, first the one they delivered in Nagoya and moreover the margin they have, meaning all the details they need to work on to improve significantly both programs.
