Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

thanks for the video.
The reporter said that Gaby said to them (off camera) that's she is healed at 90%.

From an interview I read, she has headaches sometimes but nothing more, and nothing preventing her to skate, fortunately.

For those interested, please find below a short translation of the interview of Gabriella and Guillaume in a french regional newspaper (La Montagne):

Talking about her concussion, Gabriella admits she still suffers a bit from migraine headaches. It took to her quite a lot of time to recover but now, everything is fine.
Both are quite satisfied with their performance at the French National Championships. Although they started to train quite late, Guillaume says that they finally managed to catch up. He adds that the French National Championships helped them identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their programs hence identifying areas for improvement. based on that, their coaches have defined what kind of work needs to be done for the EC.

Being asked if they plan to participate to any int’l competition before the EC, Gabriella explains there’s so far only one int’l competition scheduled before Bratislava. Now, the timescale of this competition is not appropriate. They prefer to skip it and continue to train with their coaches in Montréal.

Last year, explains Guillaume, we were not even among the World top 10! This year, expectations are much higher hence the pressure is greater but I think we’re ready to face the challenge.

Hi everybody, I tried to do the best translation I can of this article.

In one month, the young Ice dancers team Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron will be ready to defend their european title in Bratislava. The young couple had succeed in reassure themselves during the French National Competition after having differed the beginning of their season because of the cerebral concussion of Gabriella.

"Everything is alright". The cerebral concussion of Gabriella is now just a bad memory. The young team mates had been sacred French Campions pour their comeback in competition in december 19 in Epinal.

"in self confidence"

Just arrived in France to spend the end of the year with their families, the young european and world champions just take a few days of break before going in Bratislava with the ambition of keeping the crown.

- Gabriella, do you have still aftereffects of you cerebral concussion?
"Yes, I have some symptoms like small headaches. It took a lot of time before I feel that I have completely recovered. But now everything is ok. I just feel good on the ice just like before my fall."

- After having delayed many times your come back in competition, does your bright victory in France has reassured yourselves ?
" Gabriella: Yes, everything was good, such as good as we hoped. We have done a great performance and our programs have been appreciated. This has just help us being in confidence for the rest of the season".
Guillaume: We have started the season later, but we caught up our late. Thanks to the French national competition we have determinated with our coachs the details on which we have to work on to be prepared for the european championship".

- Are you going to take part in one competition before the European championship ?
"No we don't, they were just one competition in which we could take part, but the date of the competition are not good for us. So we prefer use this time to train in Montréal".

- What is your goal in Bratislava?
"Gabriella: What we hope, of course, winning another european title. We want to have a good skate. We want to do something memorable".

- It will be the first time that you present your program on the international scene. Does this miss of competition is a big handicap ?
" Guillaume: I don't think so. Because we have nevertheless a lot of experience. It's been 12 years that we skate together, including 6 years in high level taking part in internationals competitions".

- The expectation is of course more important after your world title last year.
"Guillaume: We were a couple who will not in the top ten and now they are all waiting for us and they expect to see us on the first step of the podium or at least on the podium. So yes, we can say that the expectations are different, the pressure is more important. But I think we are ready to raise the challenge".

- You have seen on TV the programs of your main rivals ? What do you think of the level ?
"Gabriella: I don't think they are stronger than last year. It not makes me scary.
Guillaume: We did not seen things that seem insurmountable. Nothing scary. We are not worried about that".

Tx for the translation. I'm happy to hear that they are confident. They don't sound impress by the competition  It did crack me up a bit but I hope they're not too over confident. Anyway, it's good to hear Gaby feels good and put all this behind her.

tbh in french it sounds a lot less cocky, more like confident and serene.

For sure, they're not the type to be cocky or pretentious but I just enjoy their honest answers. They could have go politically correct but they just tell it like it is. I find it refreshing.

yes of course even if through the translation they seem cocky it is not the case at all !! I think that I am just not the best translator :p

You're right, they are both very honest and that's something I really like with them. At the French National Championships, the audience warmly applauded their SD and FD and the marks were also quite high. Some minutes after their FD, Guillaume said a few words to the journalists "No one seems to be disappointed, we are relieved".

Once again, this is clearly not political cant! With those words, Guillaume simply shared their doubts which makes sense given their limited time of preparation following two months without any training. Withdrawing from all Grand Prix was obviously a terrible decision to take but Gabriella's health was their top priority and that was the right decision.

Being European and World Champions at only 19 and 20 is just fantastic but, as they said, expectations are quite high now. They needed to feel reassured. With a second National title, they now feel good. Interviewed at the news of France3 TV Auvergne last Sunday, Gabriella and Guillaume looked really serene. The key point of those interviews (France TV & "La Montagne") is that Gabriella and Guillaume are now back into the competition. Gabriella's concussion is an old story. They are 100% focused on the European Championships and this is indeed very good to hear from them.

I can't wait to see them skate their new programmes again. With the right camera angles this time and judges view:) I hope they keep the costumes too!

well Guillaume did design the costumes so I have high hopes they'll keep them. You're right about the camera's angles, it was really poorly shot at French Nationals.
Little bonus Gabriella's new year's words https://www.instagram.com/p/BAA-yWrS0Rj/?taken-by=gabriellapks
I think all she learned and experienced last year will only improve her interpretation. Can't wait

They remind me of the great Roger Federer in terms of their interview style, confident, matter of fact, respectful and serene. I have a feeling that the same three pairs will make the world podium. The order will depend on the quality of their skates.

I don't like being pessimistic but I don't have high hopes for a new world title in BOSTON... :drama:

Do you mean it's in C/B's bag because of the location

Honestly, I think so, even if it desperates me. The battle should be between W/P and P/C because IMO they are both superior to C/B.

I think its too early to call. Lets see how they all look at 4CC and EC.

Several weeks not able to read, have headache, and afraid that her carrer could be finished, she shaw a great strenght to come back and she probably discovered a strenght in herself that she never known. She won in confidence.

For world championship, for me the fav are W/P, this is finaly their year and their FD is good.

C&B will be lucky to be on the podium this year, the title is between W&P and P&C, with W&P having the edge.

Hope you're right ! But anyway, a new world medal of any color will be a big win.
