Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

The "other way"? Euhh... LOL... And where did you read that they are more excellent ice dancers than skaters?

You wrote it yourself ;)

Well, none of the ice dancers hit the mark actually. Didn't you notice it?

That's not true. Watch W/P & C/L's SD to start with, count the 1-2-3, particularly stressing ONE, TWO and three, ONE, TWO and three see when the steps & accents come compared to P/C. There's a marked difference.

Once again, you didn't get my point. As I said, ice dance was quite dusty and old fashioned for such a long time and still now though some couples are pushing to new directions. You talk about ballet programs, classical ballrooms, etc...People really got bored about that kind of stuff after so many years... In a sport like ice dance which is so conservative, it was so convenient to stick to classical dance or ballet. Innovating and trying to promote a modern approach of ice dance was considered by far too risky. I am so happy P/C have their own approach of ice dance regardless of what "should be done" and yes, at the end, it pays off. As for Guillaume ability to dance a classical ballet, I don't really know... Now, interviewed last year on the french TV, his dance teacher in Montréal claimed she keeps on pushing him to start a career of dancer once he will decide to stop ice dance competitions...

Dusty & old fashioned is just your opinion. The wonderful thing about ice dance is that there is room for so much. There is nothing inherently old fashioned or wrong about drawing from the classical tradition, and there is always room for reinterpretation of the classics. In music and dance, even the most experimental performers will tell you that you can do nothing without a proper foundational education in traditional "dusty" elements.

If you really think that no one else has experimented or taken risks that have been rewarded before, may I suggest you try watching a little more ice dance? I'd start with Delobel/Schoenfelder's Frida or Pink Floyd, V/M's Carmen (a dusty & old fashioned piece, but done in a completely new way), Zlobina/Sitnikov's Derap or Pina, Hurtado/Diaz's Picasso, C/B's Butterflies & Hurricanes, P/B's Four Seasons, G/P's Feeling Begins, T/D's Barnum and Song of India... I could go on and on!

I was talking about risks taken when ice dancers play up to the limit with the balance point or when they dance close to each other. That's quite obvious I think.

And I was showing you that P/C are not the only skaters who do this, and are not the best at every single thing. P/C are excellent skaters, but you won't increase anyone's respect for them by denigrating what their competitors or predecessors do.

I mean what is it with this "stretching their limits" ? I've heard it quite a bit as a way to justify criticizing them. "I'm not critical I just want them to stretch" Why people are in such a rush ? It's only their 3rd senior year for god sake. I mean ice dance teams usually spend many many seasons before they hit success and find their style. They will evolve if we let them time to do it.
I prefer frank criticisms TBH it's more honest. That said you've raised some very interesting points. Of course, they definitely need to improve. Thank god for that they're so young it would be sad if they were done before beginning !

I can be more frank if you want ;) I just didn't think it was appropriate for a fanfest! I have watched P/C since they first appeared in Juniors, and I want to see them live up to all the potential they have. For me, I want to see an ice dance team demonstrate range, and we're not there yet with P/C. But as you said they have a lot of time, and maybe this is a discussion better suited for the off season!

Here's hoping G&G can have two good performances to crown a tough season! :agree:

Hi guys, good news, there's WIFI in the arena, was not the case in Bratislava. The warm up of the last group just ended some minutes ago, all couples performed their SD in the running order, S/S, C/B, W/P, C/L and P/C. All were quite brilliant I must say hence the competition will be quite challenging imHo.

Regarding Gabriella and Guillaume, they seem mega concentrated and completely focused. Was a bit surprised but they got a bug applause during the warm-up performance, especially from Asian spectators...

Yes, I agree on the growing part and in time I'm hoping for it too. Off-season topic indeed, now let's bite our nails, well mine at least as you might not be an excited fan like I am, tough job I know

Their twizzles were perfect I must say. This new SD is much more accented and the finish is just brilliant. As someone pointed out yesterday, even the music was changed to carry on the end of the program. I also feel like they are even faster compared to Bratislava. I met Guillaume's parents some minutes ago and they told me that the SD in Bratislava was their very first performance in an int'l competition hence they knew somehow they would need to make corrections and improvements. Well the ice dance season is all about that, improving and improving again, adjusting the choreography and the technical elements based on the jury feedback. This is what Gabriella and Guillaume did. Guillaume decided to switch to a black classy costume given the feedback on his former white shirt. This new black version is much better imHo. The dress if Gabriella was also modified. So, in the end, a lot of changes in this SD for P/C and many others which is good as it gives a real interest to this competition.

It's now up to the last two groups to perform. Tension in the arena is growing up... Two US teams were interviewed during the break, S/S and C/B.

Big laugh in the arena as the speaker announced "From Russia, Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin" when Madisson and Zach were about to start their SD...

Briliant. Utterly mesmerizing. I'm not a huge Ice Dance fan, but these two, every time they step onto the ice, they demand everybody's full attention on them.
Congrats with the SD win!

YEAAHHHHHHH @alain06fr and all the other fans on this thread, so happy for them, they did and on their SD, their infamous weakness

What a STUNNING performance from Gabriella and Guillaume. In the arena, it was SOOOOO amazing and speechless.
76.29, the best score of the season by the youngest team who missed the first part of the seaon, just UNBELIEVABLE. Seems they got huge bonuses from the juries! 😊😊😊

It's was wonderful, they are in another planet. Amazing, beautiful.
I like the commentator didn't say a word during their program. And when they finished, they say It's art.

And look to the step sequence, they clearly make it so technically complex (not sure I should use that word though ;-) ). As for the speed, they increased it since Bratislava, that was already my feeling at the warm-up...

I have posted the video of the twizzles during the warm-up rehearsal on my instagram.
I am not superstitious but I did not want to post it before the SD was over
Now you can watch it!

You're right never too cautious, good call IMO ;)

So glad they are in first. I adore this team. I was nervous because the twizzles were off on each set, but not enough to cause problems. The rest of the program was beautiful... and now they go to their strength... the Free program. Good luck to them!!
