Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

looking at their recent IG dancing try-outs posted, I realised that they both have a different 'embrace' of the music and approach to it: while Guillaume seems to naturally blend with the rhythm and get his body movement in a flow, Gabriella for me is more about 'picking up' the music, her interpretation, movement and expression more vivid and distinct. It's a bit like seeing harmonious and energetic approaches to the music side by side, making an unison and multi-dimensional effect.

as for Latin SD style, they never struck me as a team who will have or do a 'hips overflow'. I suspect that their SD, Latin interpretation will be very 'theirs', personal and reflecting onto their style and way of movement; I do think that the dance itself will be very stylish, sophisticated and not 'over-the-top' in terms of either music, movement of gestures, regardless of so-called Latin convention. What I hope for is that they'll incorporate that intimacy and intricacy of partnering they are known for into SD.

For me and I suppose some judges, the latin music means passion, and a little macho man.
So, if they do something sophisticated as you suggest noname in their style, it will be very risky and it's not the time in OG to take so much risk.

Yes and No. It is not because it is the Olympic year that they must stop doing what they know best to do ...They are no longer the favorites so ... I am not sure that taking no "risk" is the right solution.
Passion and elegance can go very well together:)

Just my take on the Insta videos and the responses it stirred:
Frankly, I see no reason to assume that those short clips have anything to do with their programs for next season. If there's anything to go by judging from the previous seasons, it's that Gaby and Guillaume like to unveil their programs at the very last minute, and I doubt they would simply post them online. Those clips don't indicate anything other than that they are hard at work, really know how to move, hip movement won't likely be a problem for them, and most importantly - THEY ARE STILL LEARNING. It doesn't take a trained eye to see they're still thinking about the steps, and it doesn't come entirely easy to them (that's why they're still practising in front of the mirror). Nevertheless, what we've seen in those clips is still very impressive, considering IT'S MAY. That is also why I think those pieces of choreo are likely for their new exhibition numbers in the upcoming Fantasy on Ice shows in June.

Concerning their Latin SD, they still have plenty of time to figure things out, and it really is too early to judge how they move to the Latin rhythm or to make predictions of how the program will pan out, except that they will definitely make the dance very theirs (I very much agree with you NoNameFace here - Gaby and Guillaume's Latin won't feature exaggerated gestures or facial expressions, everything will be organic while still remaining passionate and sensual, with emphasis on their relationship). Besides, I'm sure that with all the resources that the Montreal team has, it is very possible there will be a Latin specialist involved in the creative process of all of the teams' Latin programs.

I think out of all the current top ice dance teams, P/C are one of the few teams that can make a Rhumba program original. (BTW, the other team is I am looking forward to is Gilles/Poirier who are known for having interesting programs.)

I feel like when it comes to Latin dance patterns, a lot of teams tend to look the same choreographically. Or they just focus on looking "sexy" and not on the actual quality of the dance. But not Gabby and Guillaume.

+1000000000000 for musicfan80. I can't wait to discover their SD, it could be pretty special. As for the Päso doble: I always thought that despite the technical struggles they had, they had one of the best SD of 2015 in terms of character, interpretation etc, while the others we're more common. The two dances I remember from this season were theirs and Hurtado/Diaz's.

Absolutely, Hurtado/Diaz's was amazing, so original and Gaby/Guillaume, they had such a different take on it instead of the bullfight/fake carmen drama. There was also the German couple who retired which had a very different take on it too.
I hope they'll have a zesty, fleshy and get under your skin type of SD, even though such a pitch might not make much sense

Pika, please pretty please, I can't wait to read your translation ;)

Cocotaffy you make me ashamed :slink: But I promise, I swear, I will post it by the end of the week (my exams will be finished this time, it's true!)

Oh no don't be ashamed, I was just teasing you. I hope your exams go smoothly. Best of luck to you :hap10:

This interview is wonderful:luv17: (the photos too)

Someday I want to see their "Swan Lake & Romeo and Juliet-phase" just for once:biggrin:

I wanted them to skate on Romeo and Juliet for the Olympics games, what a shame

In this interview, we understand that the pressure was very strong this season: audacious choice of music, return of V/M, their lack of experience ...
We can say that this free dance is "their baby", they persisted in their choice even if the coaches were skeptical. The reaction of the public in Helsinki must have made them very happy.
In reality this interview is full of maturity but also of sweetness (they laugh, Guillaume finishes the sentence of Gabriella or the opposite). Their strength is their duo, they are strong because they are together

For the classics (Romeo and Juliet...), I was ironic :) ... but why not (it would be a huge surprise)
