In the meantime I saw that Spot has posted a great translation already, but well, I had already done a few questions so I decided to simply continue. Can't see the live stream anyway so might as well spend my time on this until I can see video's on yt...]
Q: What are the stakes in this Trophy of France?
Gaby: Well, in this GP we hope to win the gold medal, and knowing that this competition is a step towards the Olympics, give the best performance that we can, and get as many points as possible and if possible beat our personal best and the WR.
Q: What is your state of mind with the Olympics approaching?
Guigui: Well, we are concentrated on each stage of our journey/course; at the moment we are really focused on this competition here in Grenoble, it is an event that is quite important in the tour of the first part of the season. So we go on step by step.
Q: What was the take-away of your experience in Helsinki?
Gaby: Well, it's a competition, and we made some mistakes in the SD that have cost us a lot of points; this year we have worked a lot to improve the technical score of our programme, which for the moment we succeeded; and it is a work that is quite difficult but well, which bears fruit and which we hope to continue.
Q: What are you dreaming of today?
Guigui: (to Gaby) What do we dream of...? Well, we try to simply exceed ourselves, we try to exceed ourselves every day in the training, to go further in our artistic approach, to go further in our sportsmanship, to always do better and be more precise; we also integrated a lot of people in our coaching team, who bring us different things, so we try to always add to our education, our training; we try to always go farther, to push our limits.
Q: What are your projects after the Olympics?
Gaby: O, it's a bit hard to project anything because these are our first Olympics, but sure, we are still young, and well, for the moment we are totally focused on the coming season and the coming Olympics, and it's really hard to be so concentrated and (then consider?) the future, so we take things one step at a time.
Q: What choices or sacrifices did you have to make to make skating the centre of your life?
Guigui: I think that we didn't make horrible sacrifices to get where we are, but it's true that since some ten years we are doing always a bit more, I mean, in the beginning we did it for fun, so it didn't take us thàt much time, we (felt?) more or less like other children; and then little by little, we started to do 10 hours, 12 hours, 15 hours, 19 hours: at one point it began to eat into our studies, into the time we can spend with our friends, with our close ones, into our holidays, it's a bit thàt which (makes you feel pity?). Lately we also moved to Canada so it's true that we are far from our families, we are far from certain friends that are dear to us, but well, apart from that, it's rather cool, such a life, we are not unlucky! But it's true that it demands a discipline that for most people is not a necessity, so it's true that it takes pushing oneself quite a bit, it's psychologically not always easy; well, it's these kinds of small things that are different from the daily life of a normal student.
Q: How do you handle the stress of the competition?
Gaby: Well, it's certainly more difficult, because the more we succeed, the more the public wants to see us succeed and the more the public expects us to succeed and the more the mistakes we make become expensive; and we know, we also put pressure on ourselves: we don't want to regress, we want to continually be the best, and our competition as well, they progress more and more, we should not rest on our laurels, so yes, there's always some sort of pressure, but that's also what makes us work and makes us exceed ourselves, so it's a good kind of pressure.
Q: Is it natural or still a challenge to skate together?
Guigui: Well, it's a bit both: I mean, we progress, so it's a challenge to always go farther, because we want more, we want better, we want...; but as a result the more basic things become easier, so... that's how we progress, there are things that become more natural, and then there are things that we still need to work on; when something is well achieved, we want to work on something else; sometimes there are things that we are losing again, so we need to get back to those all the time, it's a bit lost... it's a bit lost; it's not music where you have to keep playing scales and things like that, but it's the same, it's a constant work, whether it's technical or artistic, in the interpretation, and there's also the whole mental attitude in the competition that needs to evolve, because we change, our personalities evolve, the stakes evolve, the sport evolves, so we need to evolve with it, to be always on the edge, be THERE, in fact.

This is the first time I've watched them perform in real-time (thank goodness for VPN!) because I am always nervous watching live, but this was worth all the butterflies in my stomach! I got goosebumps all over. I don't know much about the technical elements, but in my eyes this performance looks the cleanest so far! Am watching the victory ceremony right now.

LOL. The trophies looked like cheap plastic yellow stars that varied in size (third place looked significantly smaller ... LOL), but I loved how the people on the stands started dancing when the camera panned on them during the victory ceremony. They were very happy for Gabby and Gui Gui.

Apart from the level 3, they barely leave any point off the table. I'm so happy we finally got proper camera work for their MiSt :luv17: although we compensated for it with the worst possible angle for their straight line lift... We still don't know if they will be better able to keep their nerve this time when faced with Tessa and Scott, but at least they have built a very nice standard to skate to again and again. It's bound to help them. And securing the two highest overall scores of all time before the GPF was just about all I could hope for them this season.

I want to see this fd one more time but i think they should rest. olympics and worlds are so close.
I think they'll go. If they get OGM, they'll want to have the world title back to back. Even if they don't, then they'll want the world title for the year.

Am I the only one who had the impression that they were VERY nervous today? They even fumbled at one time, I think, when Guillaume try to catch Gabriella's wrist.
I hope, the pressure doesn't get too much!
Although I understand the "rationale" behind it, I think it is sad that Marie-France cannot stand next to them. She is coaching them with Romain, she should be there. This is not war ... she is training international teams, not just Canadians.

I didn't find them the least nervous... everything was spot on except yes for that "wrist thing".
Actually Marie-France only went to Skate Canada because it's not far by plane from Montreal. They have a daughter, plus too many teams to handle. So it's perfectly normal that she's not there, it wouldn't have been fair for the other teams. The way I see it it's one team = one trainer. If CAN, FRA and USA nats were happening at the same time, MF would go with V/M, Romain with P/C and Patrice with H/D. That's how they do usually.
But she might be at GPF since her top 3 are going ! :agree:

Whether they want it or not, the pressure is increasing, it's home crowd and they started with such a boom in China, now they have that WR weighing over their heads to deal with. They did look tensed but delivered an even better performance than CoC so kudos.
As for MFD, someone mentioned her having such a hectic schedule and also having a daughter, which I hadn't thought about. I think they looked happy to have their mental coach with them, especially Guillaume, he kept hugging her quite intensely. One lucky woman

I love how Guillaume just dives into Gabriella's neck/shoulder at the end of each of their performances (remember last year at Worlds ?)...It seems to be his way to come back to earth lol He seems to "feel" her pretty intensively, you can see how much he loves her and how much she appeases him.

Why do you say she is the sports psychologist? I think that's Catherine Pinard, who is listed as one of their coaches on their isu bio. I think she is the performance coach (as in arts performance) This may well be her https://vimeo.com/68054775
