Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

I am taking away just under ten percent to get an idea of how all RD scores compare with last years, and ten percent exactly for the FD. 88 may be a smidge too high. But I don't think Molina would give tech levels that weren't deserved; plus you also have to remember they were scored less at Nationals than they got at Os and the Worlds for their freedance (they certainly didn't have a perfect score orchestrated for them for propaganda reasons). The real world score I don't think would be less than 86 certainly, but probably 87ish. The highest score internationally so far is 79. That's a heck of lead on the RD. Everyone else has a far larger margin for improvement though. One does also have to bear in mind that some other teams and individuals in teams were around when the Tango Romantica was used as a CD, which G and G weren't. Basically, even without the real evidence before us, we can celebrate this as a great showing IMO.

Also a little more info and impressions on this program but it's in French here: http://www.passion-patinage.com/201...eron-james-cipres-au-top-amoz-en-demi-teinte/ The starting pose is giving me chills already but I lost all objectivity with them so
I'm sure it will be a great RD. With all their technical qualities, this is a guaranteed win all season.
I think they finally got to do 'their thing' with the SD. So happy to see that (not yet, but well... :rolleye:), they just needed to feel that confidence for their talent to take a hold of the SD also.

The music choice is what was to be expected: not conventional but to the point, and not a pop-song, that was obviously not going to happen this year. (Why did we not come up with Astor Piazzolla ourselves? Somehow it was so logical...)
So far I found the competitions interesting but also somehow boring, the tangos are musically quite repetitive, even though I've already seen some real gems. GG's tango will clearly stand out.

I don't know why I'm even talking about this, because it sounds as if I have no life of my own and need to live through commenting other people's lives, but well: I'm not impressed with the costumes. That kind of blouse was rather what I was hoping that Guillaume would not wear, and having both of them in black is, well, sort of boring. I suppose the dress is beautiful, but why not in a colour? I don't care which one. Burgundy, dark green, poison green, ochre, orange-brown, blueish purple, gosh, anything but black. If Gaby wanted to wear black (which I find not flattering on her, but who am I) then Guillaume could have worn some colour. Black plus a colour is enriching. Black plus black is, well, black. Boring... I can see why Vanessa and Morgan need to wear both black outfits in their SP, it works differently, also because Vanessa's skin is dark and that gives something different between them. Gaby and Guillaume both wearing black... nah. Doesn't excite me one bit.

Feel free to disagree with me, and to tell me I need to mind my own business.

Also: from the article, about Marie-Jade and Romain: "Très difficile de ne pas résister à leur prestation…" ("Very hard not to resist their performance") Interesting way of putting it. Too many negations somehow don't annul each other anymore...

Costumes will probably change. I need to see Guillaume moving in his to get a feel. Right now this looks too much like Flamenco laces.

Where is Anyasnake?
Yes, where is she? Anyasnake, come back, you’re missed!

Not a fan of the costumes either, though they will probably change. The cut looks great and the black lets you focus on their beautiful lines, but it’s such an obvious tango colour.

Hmmmmm that offensive post on FFSG’s fb has been deleted... Same as the post about streaming info on P/C page... Acting as if nothing has happened, awesome.

The absurdity of it all is really outlandish. You have 4 couples on the ice, and the camera shows 3 of them in detail, and does everything to avoid showing the 4th couple at all costs. Honestly, in what world did this happen??

One where the French fed thought "people really want a stream of the Masters" and "we don't want to show P/C" and somehow decided the solution was a half-assed compromise. I'd like to have been in the room where that decision happened.

What's the verdict on that knee thing? Do we think that's the curve lift? I like the exit :D

Yeah, I think this is a curve lift. It looks so good and in style. The exit is lovely.

I am a bit late in commenting on this but was actually checking to see what was going on with the livestream in the middle of my cousin's wedding yesterday and was really annoyed to see what happened. I am with others here saying that it should have been all or nothing but certainly don't blame Gaby or Guillaume!

And apparently, Guillaume’s bf criticized the fed for the livestream being cut.

Oh, where was that, I would be curious to read/hear that?

ETA: Ah, nevermind, I read it was a comment on the stream.

I just listened for the first time the two musics they choose. Wow, these two have fantastic taste. Oblivion is absolutely magic. It touches your soul so easily. It is perfect for them and I can't wait to see what they'll bring with their skating and their emotional comitment.
Primavera portena is interesting as well. You recognize the tango but it's not too well-known or too obvious. Love it so far.

They never disapointed me music wise.

Anybody found a second guitar piece by Rachael Yamagata yet? I'll get to like 'Black Sheep', it's just so different from her other music. It's quite country style, and for me that's a bit 'anecdotal' compared to other musical styles. It makes music very defined in space and time, less universal. I hope that makes some sense.

I must say that I'm really impressed with their audacity for change. I'm extremely pleased, even if probably not all changes will be to my liking, but I do feel that with their talent, going in different directions is absolutely needed. They can drop what they don't like, but they need to keep growing, expanding, and changing ice dance.
Ice dance will never recover from these two. Luckily!
