Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

"Sunday Afternoon" is the first song I found to like of her. It creates such an intimate atmosphere. It's slightly melancholic and not just another typical "cute girl with a guitar" song (which I was afraid of).

What a shame this WD at NHK. First of all Guillaume's speedy recovery remains the most important.
With this injury they will not go to GPF. There will be this season only 3 (instead of 5) international competitions where we can admire them (IdF, Euro, World).
And why not join the CS Golden Spin of Zagreb?
Same dates as the GPF, in Europe where they will stay after for the French Championship the following week.
It is of course less attractive, less glorious, but it is a good opportunity to develop their season, to share their art and their class with their audience and their fans.
Maybe it's a little selfish of me to think about it, to be able to see them one more time... Maybe it's interesting for them - in compensation - to animate their season without too much time or extra miles constraints.
Your opinion ?

Haven’t listened to the songs yet but I’m relieved that M-F and Romain are listed as choreographers too, Lambiel’s work so far in that area hasn’t been much to write home about.

Huh? Yow. Rachel and Michael Parsons have a Free Dance that quite asks a question. (Reminiscent of which program did you say, Roast Toast?)
I'm very doubtful about my answer. My first reply is another question: "why?"

About the music choice: I'm very very happy to be wrong. Though I'm not a big fan of these songs, I'm sure they will make a beautiful programme out of them.
This is going to be a weird season.

And what to think of Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker's program?
Ooooohhhh... Reminiscent of who exactly? Hmmmmmm... Who do we want to be...?

YES!! Unless they want to do another season like the concussion one, I think they should go to competitions if they physically can. It's really a bummer that they have to miss the GPF, but I do feel that unless they benefit more from rest, they should keep some kind of a competition season going. Being with a real audience is always special, no matter at what occasion.
Granted, they have done so many exhibition programs lately that it probably won't hurt to take rest for a season, but I don't know, only 3 ISU competitions and the French nationals seems a bit meagre if they don't really have to.

And this is to make it 5. (Have been watching The OA over and over again lately...)

I'm still somewhat shocked about this. I think everyone should inspire each other and I've never felt that anyone owned music, but I think that program is a mistake. To me 2016 worlds was a magical moment. Not only because of the music but by that point Gabby and Guillaume had taken their skating to a whole new level. They really melted into each other and into the ice. . . . Then I saw the Parsons program :noshake:

Some comparisons are not worth the risk. Especially this soon after the original. Sorry :slink:

It's only going to add to the legend :yahoo:

It only makes you realize how talented and musical P/C are. And they even have the luxury to make it easy.
The main asset PC have at the moment is that they "finish the movements". They take the time to dance, to have a port de bras precise and living. They take the time to breathe...Might feel weird to say that, but something they just take a breath with the music. They go fast, then slow, then stop, then fast again and so on. They create a rythm in the choreography always matching the music perfectly. And their movements, their response to the music change with that rythm.

That's how you create magic.

I felt a bit depressed after listening to Duet, it's such a snoose, the slowest song ever written in the history of music, I think! :D Do they want to put the judges and audience to sleep? I kept thinking, how can they see this as a change, experiment or challenge? It suits their EX programs style better, which have always been pretty underwhelming IMHO, apart from that awesome Weeknd program after the 2016 Worlds.

And then I listened to Sunday Afternoon and I shouted a big loud YES!!! Not the best song by any stretch of imagination, but it has an awesome, original beginning (I hope they keep it) and somewhere in the middle it gets really interesting, with some drama, edginess and grit. But then again, it's such a long song, who knows how they had cut it. I hope the Duet part is short and they bring out the energy of the other song, and then I will be a happy camper. :D

I'm also not sure if they are doing themselves a favor with this.
Skating style, dresses, music ... it is too similar.

That actually is my first fear as well. The songs put me in the mind of their Exhibition programs, which tend to be languidly boring to me. I hope they wring a lot of surprising energy out of the music.

I agree with about everything everyone says. Maybe I'm just a bot?

Yes, having GG copied adds to the legend. Absolutely. But from a personal skating team point of view, how much are you doing yourself a favour, as GGFan and lupina015 pointed out?

I strongly doubt that teams are helping themselves by trying to copy GG's style, although I feel that certain couples really pull it off.
I'm going to suspend my judgement on Hawayek/Baker as I want to see the program evolve, but there's something about those two being quite a different couple from Gaby and Guillaume. So I wonder if they really pull it off... I'm a bit doubtful, even though they absolutely deserved their win. (Mainly for me because Tiffany and Jonathan have an extremely underwhelming FD this year, and on top of that seriously underperformed yesterday.) They ARE an interesting couple, even though I'm scared with every lift (no offence intended even though it may seem jokingly -- I seriously feel some concern due to their physical builds) and I think they may just pull such a program off, but I was really watching in a very confused state because it seemed the clearest copy/paste of a GG program so far. Which is also obviously due to MF choreographing it.
Ah, too many sides to this: I'm just confused and don't know what to think or what I'm feeling really.

But the Parsons, yes, for me that's simply too soon. You are FORCING us to compare, and sorry, that's never going to turn out in your favour... Really, it just simply CAN'T be in your favour, no matter how hard you try...

Did anyone guess these? I definitely saw Duet being put forward before, but maybe that was on FSU. Anyway, Sunday Afternoon is a nice surprise. I like the mood of these pieces and I think we might be getting an FD reminiscent of To Build a Home.

I don't know the artist and was very curious about the songs they chose since everyone seems so excited about them. I expected something different from their previous programs and, indeed, it's different from Mozart and Beethoven, but at least for me it's exactly the same style as To Build a Home, the music from FD prior to the Olympic season and the song Hawayek and Baker are using this year. Well, in one of the songs there's a nice bluesy solo guitar and that's also different. I'm sure they will make another masterpiece and I will love the program as I love all they have skated so far, but I would like them to skate to, for example, a typical disco program. That would be a big change and not only a subtle change.

Vanessa James, in her interview with TSL, did say that although she had not seen G/G's FD, she'd heard it's amazing. Being a friend and teammate she would understandably speak favorably about G/G, but in the lack of any concrete news/clips, her words are at least encouraging.

Little extract from the IFS magazine article. It's in Russian but the google translation is all right: https://m.sports.ru/amp/post/2243780/?__twitter_impression=true
Interesting quotes about their new work, Lambiel, how Hagenauer doesn't think they have picked yet.

OMG, that small photo is from the French Masters? Guillaume's costume looks terrible.. Gabby's could have been more original too.

Thanks a lot for the link! Just finished reading it via Google. Four new lifts? Looking forward to them.

Thank you! It sounds from this like Lambiel played a role similar to Jeffrey Cirio last year for Moonlight Sonata, but on-ice, and I think the result is going to be very interesting because I do see a lot of similarities between his way of skating and Guillaume's. And I do agree with Romain Haguenauer that they haven't peaked yet, but I can hardly imagine what they'll be capable of when they do!
