Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

hallo to all: here is a fan from germany. loved to read all your comments and didn´t want to stay out in the dark but thank you all for the information i get from this forum. i was on my way to grenoble, but my mum got sick and was sent to the hospital so i have to stay at home. i am a fan since i saw Gabriella and Guillaume live in bratislava and boston in 2016. saw the rd video on twitter today and i am amazed. this looks like a real tango for me, i see sharp movements that alternate with softer movements ( essential for tango), everything is danced to the finish of the movement, looks polished already. midline steps look sharp and clean, but this is the hardest element to judge for me: one single wrong edge during a cluster and you loose a level ( since you need 100% for level 4). lift is great: entrance is spectacular and exit with the double twizzles. wow. seems to be very difficult. i am looking forward to seeing the pattern tomorrow. we saw just a little bit of the beginning in pattern1. i wrote too much for my first post, i am just so disappointed not to go to grenoble that i need this save haven to write down my thoughts. i wish all of you a good day.

Oh no, what rotten luck! Your poor mum... Murphy's law was in full swing for you both... I hope everything will turn out fine!

Welcome to GS, post long and often, and especially don't be afraid to write gushing praise of Gabi and Guillaume in here! We thrive on long posts!

Simpler compared to who? This? Their lifts are fine, have always been fine. Agreed on the rest!

Yes. You picked the best example.
This wasn't a critique, by the way. Simple things that fit seemlessly into the coreography look and feel way better than Elements which are just thrown in or made unneccesarily complicated just to grab the most amount of points possible.
It just seems to me that, in this season, a lot more couples go for the latter.

Ok how obsessive on a scale from 1 to 10 is it of me to be able to watch on a loop this clip of them just gaining speed so effortlessly. I didn't realize I missed them so much.

Here is another angle for the lift. It doesn't look like an easy lift for three reasons: the entry where she flips real fast in his arms to sit effortlessly on his knees, then notice his position, skewed carrying all her weight on one leg, very hard to balance such a lift while doing a tight curve, finally the exit directly into a great twizzle. It is not as spectacular as being above the head but I wouldn't say less difficult. There is also no building time with them compared to many teams where you really think (at least it often happens to me): "oh ok now they are gonna go into their lift, let's wait for her to awkwardly step on him settle in her position so on so forth"
And I totally agree with you about the importance of seamless lifts versus attention grabber ones.

Welcome (from a fellow German :))! And best wishes for your mom!!!

I am glad to finally see a little bit of that SD! So exciting! They are as incredible as ever and I am really looking forward to the next two days. I hope all goes smoothly for them!

There was a movement right before the ending poses where I could tell it was Dean's choreography.I'm sure Jayne does it in Cecilia:biggrin:

First impressions of the program minus the pattern:

Oblivion - Where is the oblivion ? I must say I was not expecting that. I absolutely love the music, that longing, the depth, the sadness carried throughout the song. It is them, it's so perfect for them. They chose that extraordinary interpretation from Kramer, so emotive and overwhelming and turned it into something ordinary and flat. Yes, flat. I found the first section of the program flat, despite the lift followed by the twizzles, the difficulty of the series of twizzles.
They have so much dancing qualities, I don't know why they had to rush and make the pace faster. The photo leaked a few weeks ago of that amazing position from Gabby needed to live on its own. It would have been so much better if Gabby was descending following the violin of Kramer, showing off her strength, her flexibility and how effortless they can make it. Ugh, not happy :tantrum:

The second part is much much much better. Quite mesmerizng actually. It's such a nice opposite to the beginning. They are telling a story during this part of the program and uses all their abilities to create a moment. They are fast, sharp, connected to each other, playing with each other, dynamic, sexy, and yet incredibly elegant. There is nothing vulgar or over the top with their interpretation. But (yes there is a but), it's almost too short compared to the oblivion part of the program. The ending pose feels weird because it's like the program really started at the moment Oblivion stopped and the overall piece feels too short. And there is no contrast between the two parts and tango is probably the ONE ballroom dance that allows such contrasts. Too bad they are not using this.

But (another but...) the quality is still freaking there. Those edges are TO DIE FOR. They added so many little details here and there that make the program authentic.

So can't wait to see the whole program to have a more definitive judgement :). I am sooooo happy to see them skate again.

Hm... I understand your position but I also feel it's difficult to judge the first half of the program with the huge gaping hole where the pattern should be.

This looks like a very authentic and sophisticated tango, rather than some over the top flamenco hybrid that some of the other teams have. Love the fast section, exciting without losing any nuance. I would expect that from them. Hope they have fun (and success) tomorrow.

This. I was very intrigued and pleased by the tango they chose. Super befitting of their style.

The French have taste. What more can you say?

:
I was disappointed when I heard they had chosen the Kramer version which is, in my opinion, too sweet, too full of sugar. It just removes most of the very specific caracter of the Piazzola’s piece, this little touch of bitterness in the melancholic flow of the music. So as far as we can judge the first section of the RD, I would rather say, they perfectly respect the music they have chosen and give them eventually more caracter than Kramer’s violin has. So I totally disagree with you. If there is something flat this is the Kramer version of Oblivion, not what PC do with it.
As for the short piece of the second music, I personally can already see a change in the attack of each movement, the sharpness, the little very fast head movements.
Anyhow, it is much too soon to begin questioning a program on such bases even more when we miss something like half of the program. We can only judge the elements which are clearly and not partially visible : the twizzles and one lift. Both seem promising. Gabriella seems in a very good shape. Maybe Guillaume should look more in the command as the tango requires. We will have plenty of time to criticise but the minimal respect implies that we first look at the whole program, don’t you think so?

So they are going for the choreo sliding movement huh... Not sure how I feel about that given how lame some of Gadbois's slides have been, but on the other hand Romain is the one that gave us Fear/Gibson, so who knows? Also lol @ Synchronized Twizzles Lady + Synchronized Twizzles Lady!
