Gala Competition "Russian Challenge" 2023

Well, Soviet era is not my thing in any way, I hope the Eteris will bring up some modern programs. With everything bad I have to say about Eteri, her camp often uses modern music.

This is quickly turning into Soviet Nostalgia Night. I am in for it, but if the plan was to throw a glove of with charm and grace… it’s kind of osbcure’ish
You guys who understand what's going on, don't hesitate to share with those of us who don't, please :)
The last two programs felt very Russian, what's the story exactly?

Would have sucked if Akatieva couldn’t break free from the chain. Look like she struggled for a moment.

Very elegant skate from Sofia. Maybe not quite so strong in interpreting the theme. There was not much of the tragedy of the story visible.

It is Yablochko, a sailor’s dance always on offer in Soviet time by Red Army Fleet and Navy dancing band.

Aliev’s performance is done to the song by Russian ‘silver age’/lost generation/fin de siècle’ doomed poet who cultivated an image of a hooligan and a tragic soul, Sergei Esenin. He was neurotic, had messy private life full of sort of heart-aching poems, etc, complicated relationships with Soviet powers. Was obsessed over birch trees and Rusisaness of them. Generally, the textbooks always had his poem about the birch tree under snow, and none about women… lol. He died by suicide aged 26 or 27 (also not included in textbooks)
