General Ladies Discussion (was original Ladies LP thread)

4:47 --
8:10 -- Scream and STOP.

Gourry - wasn't implying you were a crazed Yun-a fan. I mean stuff like that youtube clip of the GPF, where an entire arena screams and then the entire arena stops cold 2 seconds later. That's just spooky.

Last edit -- this thread was supposed to be for the Ladies LP which happens in 3 1/2 hours, let's just table all the other crap till that actually happens. We're already 4 pages in.

I love the korean fans! They are very supportive of skaters. I don't see anything spooky about it.

Perhaps you should take some of your own advice and keep your "holier than thou" attitude to yourself...

Anyways, looking forward to the long program. I am thouroughly enjoying this competition so far, a lot of great skates!

Well said!!

You can assign whatever politically correct adjectives make you feel good. The youtube is worth 1000 words. My point was -- you're implying people are unenlightened for being excited for their team to win. But look at that freaking video. And shouldn't some of them still be excited and happy for her good skate, not all get silent just cause she didn't win?

As others have pointed out, it is a totally different situation over there.

Yuna Kim is the one and only and FIRST EVER Korean skater to have success at this level.

Before YN, I didn't even know the Koreans did figure skating, and neither did a lot of Koreans themselves.

When the new sport is introduced, it always takes time for the locals to learn the proper fandom or arena etiquette or whatever it is.

Also in that clip, didn't Yuna just lose to Mao of Japan... IN KOREA?

I don't watch figure skating because I like to see the US do well and beat others. I watch because I enjoy the sport and like skaters of a variety of styles, regardless of what country he or she is representing.

I used to be all American all the time when it came to competitions, but it's so much easier when I don't limit myself that way.

I can see the clique is now out of the woodwork, in full force. Gotta love the internets.

Free Dance is now playing awesome background music from 1981. That makes everything better. :P Kiss On My List, man that is vintage.

geez, the ladies LP is still 3 hours away and we already have 5 pages of HEATED discussion, most of them really had nothing to do with the ladies' LP

And by the way, if you  for that kind of audience reaction, try some Michelle's national performances especially 2003, 2004 seasons. You will be able to  a lot there too.;)

I doubt there were ever more stuffed animals on the ice for any skater than for Yu-na in the clip I linked. If there were, I'd honestly like to see it.

what an awful girl for having so many fans. She should be banned from competition.

so what if there are a lot of toys out on the ice... Evgeny Plushenko was pummelled by adoring fans with flowers and toys in the K&C at one event... it happens.

I love throwing gifts on the ice.

Why would anyone with zero chance to win have load of crazed fans? Example?

I'm the craziest fan of Stefan Lindemann  First love, always love. I chose him easily over Johnny, Jeremy, Brian or some other of my favourite skaters.

what about all of those novice/jr skaters that only a few know about or even notice.

I saw Ashley Wagner as a novice in Portland and thought there was something special. But people blew me off. Keegan Messing is another that I think will get noticed pretty quickly once he hits seniors.

My comment was in response to Yuna wouldn't have tons of crazed fans if she weren't a top skater. Of course you need to establish yourself to rise to the fame, hence armada of followers. But good to know very enlightened fans here support and love skaters regardless of their resume.

Isn't that the same with every top skater? Look at Lambiel. He surely has something extra, and probably the biggest fan base of the male skaters. Simple is that.

Yes. Simple as that. I just didn't understand why the poster was making a big deal out of it.
