One of the best. And Gracie at her best was World Champion caliber. I direct you to her free skate at 2016 Nationals.

It was a good skate with the glaring lip. Is it any better than Wakaba LP this year? Is it better than Kostner LP at Rostelecom? Not really. At her best, she´s fighting for a podium finish if you score her correctly without any US push. Her TES is not as good as the other girls with the lip. Her PCS is still 4th or 5th on the best day. How can she be WC caliber if TES is not WC caliber and PCS is not WC caliber.

She may not have been the strongest competitor or skater, but I hope she gets better, and does well in her future endeavors. Maybe she can pull a Carolina and comeback.

Stop kicking someone while they're down. You're doing neither her or yourself any favours. You're entitle to your opinion but there's nothing wrong with a bit of tact and timing either. Please stop.

What is this business of kicking someone when they are down? Do you know what that means? Lol

This poster also likes to diss nastily Japanese ladies skaters in their thread, in particular Mai :rolleye:

I applaud Gracie for having the courage of putting her health and happiness first and potentially giveìing up to her last Olympic chance. What a strong woman!

I agree 100%. Plus, there are several ways for Gracie to "Come Back" that don't involve her competing. She could end up in the commentary booth like Yulia. She could become a tech specialist and judge. She could also become jump specialist for one of the high caliber coaches. She has several options and once she's feeling healthy and ready, I have no doubt we'll see her again somewhere.

Tara's job is in peril?

I would prefer an on-ice comeback but if Gracie does not return on ice I certainly want her to take Tara's job (sorry Tara fans; I hate her commentary).

^^^^Great post!!! She does have time and words like these can ease the pressure of thinking "It's Now Or Never" You don't need an Olympic Medal to be a role model. She already 2 US Championships and OBM from Sochi, and a Pewter from Boston. That's a hall of fame career right there.

Don't forget she has a small gold medal from Boston for coming in 1st in the short program!

I was so hoping that 2016 Nationals would be the competition that would spur Gracie forward to even bigger heights, but it was not to be.

Anxiety, depression... God, how could that sunny-smiling girl have got such a diseases... Hugs to Gracie!..

Too often though we could see the anxiety written all over her face once she took the rink.

I actually liked TL when she first started out; she had good insight and technical analysis that I appreciated. Unfortunately since joining NBC the quality of her work has slid downward over time (thus I blame NBC), now to the point she’s really no better than who she replaced on there. The issue is not Lipinski, but the overall NBC production. Light on real analysis, heavy on useless fluff and speculation

If Gold wants to get into broadcasting, more power to her...but until NBC gets a new skating producer, expect more of the same regardless of who’s in the booth...

The question is, if she comes back, will it be a new Gracie, or more of the same? I’m hoping for a new Gracie who is mentally tough like Ashley with the same qualities she has as a skater

Who cares as long as she is happy?

Being a weak competitor doesn't mean you are a bad or a weak person. Even if you're an inconsistent figure skater, I would say anyone who is going through what Gracie is is developing an incredible amount of mental toughness, that may or may not translate to the ice. Being able to accept yourself at the end of the day even if you skated badly is its own kind of mental toughness, too.

"It breaks my heart to withdraw from the 2018 U.S. Championships. I am still undergoing treatment for depression, anxiety and an eating disorder. I have not had adequate training time in order to perform at the level at which I want to. It pains me to not compete in this Olympic season, but I know it's for the best. I wish everyone the best of luck and will be cheering you all on. I want to thank everyone for the ongoing love and support. It means the world to me."

I applaud her honesty, courage and consciousness about her needs and current state - she proves that she cares so much not only about herself now, but about her future and people waiting for her to be happy - in or outside of competition. And of course this time right now is for her best - this is the time to build herself a new, fresh and healthy perspective to live and move forward, so good to hear it voiced out by Gracie. If she's focused on taking care over her well-being in general, the effect of it will be sound and visible for all people around - she's missing Olympic season as a competitor, but I have faith that her Olympian experience and spirit of an athlete will help her to get through everything she's experiencing right now. Moreover - watching Olympic season, Olympics itself from some distance and with other priorities could give Gracie some new outlook at FS competitive world in general, some new boost/inspiration to carry forward.

All the best for her:ghug:
