Sorry that this is later than it could have been. I got distracted doing Fan Fests! :p

As soon as I saw the entries for the ladies, I knew who I was going to put my Top 5, and the order I was going to put them in. The question was who to put as my number 6.

Mirai Nagasu had the highest PB of the rest, but that was from 5 years ago! And, apart from Mariko Kihara who was in Junior GP’s last season, the PB’s for the rest are actually pretty close.

For me the choice for 6th was between Li Zijun and Kaetlyn Osmond. I love both of them. Unfortunately, neither of them did well in their first Grand Prix. Zijun was 9th in the Cup of China, and Kaetlyn was 11th in Skate Canada. BUT, in both cases, it was because of disastrous Free Skates. Zijun was 4th in the SP in China, and Kaetlyn was 5th in the SP in Canada. So, if they can keep it together in both segments, they could both challenge for a Top 5 position.

In the end, I put Kaetlyn in 6th, largely because the other competition she competed in, the Nebelhorn Trophy, she won. Zijun hasn’t done any Senior B’s, so there is less to go on. So, that is why I put her behind Kaetlyn.

I knew who I was going to put in the next 2 positions, but was in a stew over which way round to put them. Nagasu and Artemieva finished in the Top 2 positions at the Ice Challenge 4 weeks ago. Mirai only won by 3 points, though. And Maria is on a run of good results. She has competed in 4 Senior B’s this season, and the only time she was off the podium was her 5th position at the Merano Cup.

However, I felt guilty pushing Mirai down the order compared to her PB. So, I kept her ahead of Maria. Maé-Bérénice Méité and Courtney Hicks have practically identical PB’s so I kept them in that order. Mariko Kihara’s PB is a good distance back due to her relative inexperience at Senior level, so unfortunately she remains at the bottom.

It was a similar situation at the top of my Men’s predictions. I knew who I was putting in the Top 7, and the order.

The Top 3 in the PB order were the same as the Top 3 in my predictions. But, after that, I took a major risk. I elevated Menshov from 8th in the PB list to 4th in my predictions. OK, so it wasn’t too big a risk considering the PB’s for Březina, Baldé, Doornbush and Menshov are all close. But, Kovtun’s PB is a full 10 points ahead of Menshov’s.

The thing is, I want Kostya to be top Russian, because I like him! And he has been doing well this season. In his 3 Senior B’s, he was 3rd in the Nebelhorn, and won the next 2. He was also 5th in Skate America. The Nebelhorn was his first competition, so his scores were lower. But since then, all his total scores have been pretty consistent at around 230 points.

Kovtun’s SB score was 236.38 at the Mordovian Ornament. BUT, the judges were far too generous with everybody’s scores across all categories at that event. And the only other time we have seen him was at the TEB, where we didn’t get to see his FS. So, we can’t really gauge where he is at compared to anybody else.

So, that’s my excuse for putting him behind Kostya!

The next change I made was to put Elladj Baldé ahead of Michal Březina. I like both these guys. But, every time I have seen him this season (which has been quite often because he has been doing a lot of Senior B’s) Březina has been falling on a regular basis. So, I have no reason to believe that he won’t again.

Richard Doornbush was the final skater of this group that had close PB’s. So, I kept him there. Besseghier and Hochstein were very close. But, I have only ever seen Grant twice, so I am not that familiar with him. So, I kept Chafik ahead, because I am more familiar with him. After that, it was well spread out. So, unfortunately, Brendan stayed at the bottom.

In Pairs, the order I wanted to put them in was actually identical to the PB order. So, I didn’t make any changes.

Iliushechkina / Moscovitch were a revelation last season, so I did consider putting them ahead of James / Cipres. Each team have only done one GP and one Senior B, so there isn’t much to go on. But, whereas Lubov and Dylan got 7th at the Cup of China and 4th at the Ondrej Nepela, Vanessa and Morgan got 2nd at the TEB and 3rd at the Nebelhorn. So, I kept them in the same order.

Although, I am rather confused. Because, the last I heard, Fancy / Boyadji had split up in between the SP and the FS at the Nebelhorn. So, what’s going on?! :confused2:

In Dance, it was not quite as simple. There were two occasions when I was dithering over which way around to put 2 couples that had very similar PB’s. Unfortunately, all four of these couples were going into my Top 5 positions! :rolleye:

The first debate was over the gold and silver medals. Bobrova / Soloviev or the Shibutanis. They both competed at Skate Canada, and the Shibs finished 2nd with a score of 168.36, while the Russians were in 3rd with a score of 161.11. That is a big difference.

HOWEVER, the Shibs also did the Ondrej Nepela, where they were 3rd with a score of 154.34. Which is a good bit lower than what Bobrova / Soloviev got at Skate Canada (they have not done any Senior B’s this season).

After dithering for a long time, I decided to go for the Shibs.

The other debate was over 4th and 5th positions. Again, both couples had previously competed in the same GP. But, this GP was the TEB, where we only had the SD. Stepanova / Bukin were 3rd with a score of 60.64, while Coomes / Buckland were 4th with a score of 58.34.

HOWEVER, the Brits also did the Ondrej Nepela, where they were 2nd in the SD with a score of 62.70. More significantly, Penny and Nick were also 2nd overall with a score of 156.22, nearly 2 points ahead of the Shibs, who I am predicting to win the NHK!

Normally, I would be going with the Russians. But, this time, I’m going to go with Penny and Nick!

For the rest of the positions, I was happy with the PB order. I am intrigued to see how Chris Reed goes partnering somebody other than his sister.

Looking forward to it!

U put Ashley in forth? :jaw: That woman will not let that grand prix pass her by!!

If I am totally honest, I do actually expect Ashley to get on the podium. Because, let's face it, Pogo is not having a good time of it this season.

But, I decided to keep my faith in Anna. It will probably backfire on me big time, but hey!

When you are doing as badly in the Predictions Game as I am this season, you can afford to take risks...

By the way, thank you for "liking" the post that my predictions were in. That "Like" is the 150[SUP]th[/SUP] that I have received since the thumbs feature was installed!!! :cheer:  :party2:
