Gracie Gold: Can she medal at JW (and beyond)?

Never noticed before, until I saw Gracie's opening pose, a facial similarity to Tara Lipinski, plus add in a bit of 1920's Hollywood Flapper Glamour.

to add to her being a level headed and a responsible girl
Did she dye her hair red? I remember her being very blonde, and then at nationals she was more red than blonde, and no more bangs! Idk which is her natural color, but I really like the red hair on her.

The answer is yes. Not only did she win a silver at her first junior worlds (which is her second international competition ever!), she also showed she's got grit. She lost her skates for a while, had a really bad practice before the SP. During the SP, she fought for and landed her jumps, even if they weren't as great as usual. I find this more impressive than if she just had a totally routine and easy competition. It's nice to know she can bulldoze over obstacles. I have no doubt Gracie will continue to succeed.

Not only that I just saw her skate on youtube (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAHwUzXAtfw&feature=related ) and have to say next year's Nationals is literally going to be a bloodbath!
I mean even I don't know whom I would pick for medals next year. Of course Gracie would be first on my list due to her big huge high correctly rotated triple jumps & 3/3 combos., and especially her consistency, but YET she does need to work on her presentation/artistry. So that brings in Ashley Wagner, whom has it all, but let's be honest her jumps are not in the league of Gracie Gold or Agnes Zawadzki, so when everything else is equal the other two should prevail on TES, but Ashley on PCS. Then you have the complete darkhorse Caroline Zhang (the 2007 World Jr. Champion) whom blew everybody away this year by actually improving leaps & bounds on her jumps, even incorporating the one-of-a-kind 3R/3R combo. into her repertoire! (8^O As well she does have artistry/presentation and flexibility (witness the spin named after her: The Pearl Spin). And if she keeps improving (which I have no doubt after seeing what she accomplished this year) on her speed, consistency, jumps, et al, I see her not just medalling but winning.^) Lastly, how can one forget Alissa Czisny, the Queen of the Impossible Becoming Possible. Her spins, poise, posture, balletic stance on her forte, combined with her consistency, so she too is always a contender.
Whom to choose, whom to choose, that is the question. In the meantime I'm going to have a blast watching all the American ladies go head-to-head next season, with Sochi less than 2 years away, which means now is the time to establish oneself.

Caroline still has so much she needs to improve on before she even thinks about getting on the podium at Nationals next year. If the top ladies all skate like they can Caroline won't be be finishing above any of them. This includes Alissa, Ashley, Mirai and Agnes. And this doesn't even include Gracie. Of course this rarely happens but it just shows that Caroline has a very small margin of error.

Since when has US ladies figure skating had a skater with this much technical prowess? Not for years, not recently with Mirai, Rachael, Ashley, Alissa or Caroline. She's only a junior and yet her jump content in this competition was far and above anything the senior ladies are doing now. And she's not the only one--those Russian prodigies are likewise doing Lutz 3/3's and 2A+3T's combo and yet she is able to contend with them for the podium.
So glad Carolina Kostner won't be able to get away with a solo 3Flip as her hardest element in her free skate for much longer, even though she's destined for the World title this year.
Just watched Gracie's FS. And actually I noticed a few improvements from the program at Nationals and at JGP Estonia. Her spins seemed a lot more centered and she really made an effort to hold and extend the positions.
That said, I'd like her to project more to the audience and not be so focused on getting the audience. But as I said, now that she's done (with a silver medal!) she can go home and work on the nuances. Here's hoping we'll see even greater things this fall.

I seem to remember at least Zhang and Flatt being touted as jumpers as well...and Nagasu showed a lot of potential as well.
Now- one of them is basically finished, the other is languishing and the third is on somewhat of a rebound after some downtime. None of them are serious contenders at this point.
The other two (Wagner & Czisny) will be at worlds, of course- and again, many variables come into play since with one of them, you don't know who's going to show up and with the other, we've seen flashes of promise but she has yet to be truly tested.
Too many recent disappointments to count. That's why I'm a bit slow to get excited about Gold...

I never saw Zhang being a jumper
her flawed techniques and I'm not just talking about her mule kick, knew she would suffer once she hits puberty
and to rework her technique
Gracie has huge jumps, a little wobbly sometimes but lands them almost everytime, has good technique
and she is 16 years old, chances are she is done growing, her jumps remind me a bit of a raw Yuna's

Yes, Gracie has the mental toughness requisite in the sport.
She went there in her 1st major competition- not set to win the gold but to make a mark and she surely made it!
She was absolutely stunning! She's only going to get higher and higher next year- and I reckon would be at par as one of the best, if not the best, ala Yu-Na Kim next year.
Her star is going to grow and grow!
Goals for next season.
She needs to loosen her shoulders a bit, add more facial expressions, better transitions and feel the music more.
She needs more ballet training and she needs to video her performances at the rink. Look at areas of improvement, how to connect more to the audience and the judges.
If she does the triple axel- she will be unstoppable . Based on the way she jumps- a quadruple toe seems possible as well.

She should also go for consistency- mark how many successful run-throughs for her programs and gain more confidence and consistency by doing clean run-throughs.
