GS Meetup at Worlds 2016!

Third party apps are great! I already have Line, but I'd be okay with anything else. I agree that a list of names (or other identifiers) would also be nice!

Good idea(s)! Either one will work for me. We can send selfies to the group and as we start meeting each other (the group grows) we can send group selfies to the ones we have not met yet but would like to meet.

Also it's worth noting that this sort of thing can be used for after Worlds too.

Line and what's app are very similar! I haven't heard of slack before, but I don't think it's too different. I don't mind what we use! On line and what's app there's a good option to make a giant group chat. That would help in this situation

Time to move into the 21st century and get on Slack! Slack lets you create subchannels so it's not just one giant group text. We could have a subchannel that displays GS meetup times and locations, another channel for people to chat in, another channel to upload selfies, etc. It makes for a much cleaner messaging experience. I'm worried that Line and WeChat will get too messy.

Okay lilahozi, you've persuaded me! I have signed up for Slack and started a GS Slack Channel. I've also created some subchannels -- one for Boston Tourist recs and another to talk about meet ups.

I will get emails from Chris or you can PM me your email directly so I can invite you to the Slack.

facebook messaging, because nearly everyone already has it....

I am not sure whether any/all the apps suggested will with my relatively dumb cell phone. (facebook works on it)

Do third party apps like Slack require a data plan or connection to an internet? Because my iPhone plan doesn't give me data but I can connect to wifi. So I can text anytime but not access the internet. And it seems to me like at 2014 Nats the wifi in the Garden wasn't always available. I only was able to access it once, during a practice session.

Slack does require and internet connection.

I'm glad to provide a text messaging group for those who prefer it also. Point is that EVERYONE WILL BE CONNECTED.

I'll keep major updates on this thread...but the Slack/Text is a way to be like "Hey let's meet during the ice resurfacing" or "Let's catch a drink at the Westin." type thing.

I'm arriving Tuesday night about 5 p.m. I'm meeting a friend for dinner. I'm pretty much going to all the sessions except for the Pairs/Ladies FS (as I fly out early Saturday).

When that list is ready, send it to me, I'll add it to the Slack Channel (there's a section for files)
