Han Yan

Han Yan has just announced his retirement in his weibo. He said he's planning to further studies to perfect himself. He will continue to make contributions to the sports in other ways. He hope the fans can understand his decision.

I will certainly miss him and I wish him all the best.
 
What? He just said a few days ago he wanted to continue to 2022....guess something must've come up. I'm going to miss his skating!
 
Han Yan, thank you so much for choosing to skate and letting us witness your beautiful performances! Cheers to a lovely career.

I can't believe it.... I was sure, since he's young, he would continue to 2022. What will I do without his beautiful 3As? :cry:

Well, I wish him all the best. He deserves it. Nevertheless, this decision makes me really, reallly sad....
 
Oh, that's sad. I enjoyed watching him skate before. That's too bad. Wishing him the best henceforth.
 
all the best to Han!!! Only happiness and success from now on and no more injuries!!!!! Hope they can do some galas in the future with Zijun too
 
Noooo he was one of my favorites :(. It's a shame that he has struggled so much in this past quadrennial because he's such a naturally gifted skater who really could've rivaled Patrick Chan in terms of skating skills with proper development. I would side-eye every judge who gave him less than 9's for skating skills. I'll definitely miss watching him skate, but I wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors.
 
He has deleted the retirement announcement post from his weibo. Maybe there is still a chance he is changing his mind? I definitely hope so but I will respect his decision no matter what.
 
Why are you still guessing that Han Yan will come back ?There is no possibility!
If you know how CHN fed treated him this season,your imagination will be broken immediately.
1. He didn’t even have a professional men single coach after the operation. During the whole season,he was coached by pairs’ Hongbo Zhao(OMG,he can’t even make Chinese pairs jump well, how can he teach Yan?). When Han Yan was sturdily recovering,the fed just experienced a turbid reform—a incredibly big change(well,the officials desire for 19 gold medals in 2022 OG. I am speechless ).He planned to train abroad with Rafael after that injury(Raf really likes the young man as you know). However,the fed’s “great change” broke everything—His training plan was rejected.
2. It is known to us that China is good in pairs. As a result,the other 3 events are generally ignored. The officials are going to force Xiangning Li, CHN “first lady ”,to take up pair after OG. They decide to “buy”a American-born Chinese girl replacing Li. Also,they press Yan to be a ice dance partner(Cuz he has gorgeous skating skill ?). They believe Yan has NO remainder value in his men career. If he stick to his mind,he won’t get any training chance or money from the fed. I hope you haven’t forgotten that there are still 3 nails in his shoulder. He has had habitual dislocation since his adolescence! How can he do the lifts ? Poor Han Yan! I almost cried when I saw these messages.

Oh wow I did not know that he had planned to train with Rafael. It's a shame that the Chinese Fed did not support this plan because Raf and Han could've produced some really amazing results together. And as much as I adore Han Yan's skating skills, I would not want him to switch over to another discipline because he has GORGEOUS jumps. The guy has so much natural talent for both jumps and skating and it wouldnt make sense for him to be an ice dancer.

It seems like all this made it hard for Han Yan, so I hope he'll be happy in retirement. And I hope the Chinese Fed learns to appreciate all 4 disciplines equally. I think they have a lot of talent, but perhaps not the best management.
 
Well, after processing the news that Han decided to retire, about all I can say is that I’m heartbroken. He has been one of my absolute favorite skaters, and I always looked forward to seeing him skate in whatever competition he entered. I was so sad after seeing him in Boston 2016, but had high expectations he would rebound. I was still optimistic after this season, knowing he’d had major surgery on his shoulder leading into the Oly year. I feel he’s truly a skater who has so much more to accomplish on the competitive scene because of his beautiful skating skills and personality, and of course his gorgeous triple axel, despite the lack of multiple quads, and that in time he would have achieved success on his own terms, like Misha Ge. I hope he knows how many people love his skating and appreciate what he was able to give.
 
Just pop in to update on things we've been hearing these days. Yeah the rumors coming out of Chinese forums are pretty terrible. While they are just rumors at this time (doubt you'll get any evidence even if they are true), the Chinese fed does not have a good track record treating their athletes. One thing, when they sent their team to SA last year, all six of the skaters were expected to make the Olympic team, but with Han still recovering and Boyang seriously injured his foot, they didn't even send a medical specialist to monitor the situation. With regard to Yan Han, one other thing that's been suggested is that his former coach, Jia Shuguang, has been managing the ladies team (which consists of two skaters after Zijun's retirement) this season. When Yan wished to switch back to Jia after the deal with RA went south, they didn't allow him to do so b/c they want Jia to focus on the ladies (again, only two skaters). The fed also seemed to be eager to "buy" foreign-born Chinese boys in addition to girls, that's why they thought they wouldn't need Han anymore.

Also, his rumored ice dance partner is none other than Shiyue Wang. Guess they are not too happy with Wang/Liu, some people even suggest there had been an intentional sabotage acted against Wang/Liu from within the fed (again, just rumors atm).
