Historical "firsts" | 2015-2025

2019: Elizabet Tursynbaeva of Kazakhstan became the first senior woman to land a fully rotated quad (4S) in 2019 World Championships

Miki Ando (JPN) was the first woman to land a ratified quad in competition in 2002 which also landed her in the Guiness Book of World Records. The Jump was a quad salchow (4S). The first skater to land a ratified quad salchow in competition was Timothy Goebel (USA) in 1998. He obviously was the first man as well. Anyone after he and Miki Ando will still be second, and nothing historical about it will exist. Adding the word "senior" doesn't change history or make anything "historical" or "first." It's simply male, female, or first skater (regardless of gender).

The following table lists the first recorded quadruple jumps by female skaters in women's singles competition. Only successfully ratified jumps landed in an ISU sanctioned event or officially recognized by the ISU count towards these records.

Mikhail SHAIDOROV (KAZ) became the first skater to also land the jump combination:
- Triple Axel-Euler-Quadruple Salchow in competition during the Men Grand Prix Final event in Grenoble, France, december 2024.
He's also the first Kazakh skater to participate at the Grand Prix Final.

Note: (@gsk8 , I do believe this post should be part of your previous post about Mikhail, but I just wanted to add this to complete his records:))

But they were all underrotated in the scoresheets so it does not really count :)
For a jump to count as a "first" it needs to be fully rotated and receive positive GOE .

I assume he has at some point landed each of the 7 quad jumps successfully (fully rotated) in competition.
Not 100% sure about the 4L, though????

Question: Has anyone even attempted a 4-4 combination yet?

Not in competition yet.

Assuming there's one or more skater who can get such a combination relatively consistent in the next two years or so, we'll probably first see it attempted after the number of jumping passes is reduced from 7 to 6 for 2026-27.

Whether both jumps would be called as fully rotated is another question.

And if there are several who can do it, perhaps several years later it would become an option in the senior men's short program.

I see your point, but I think that we can count "senior" in this case. Miki Ando was the first woman to land a ratified quad in competition. "First skater from x to do y" isn't an "official" record either, but it's still important, so I think it's fair.

And, I mean Tursynbaeva is the first senior women's skater to land a ratifed quad in competition. That's literally a fact.

(Not trying to hate or anything, but I think it's still something to note)

Love this thread!

Isabella Gamez and Alexander Korovin (PHI)

Isabella and Alexander are the first pairs skaters from the Philippines and Southeast Asia to medal in an international competition (silver, Cup of Nice, 2022), qualify for an ISU World Championships (2023), and compete in a Grand Prix stage (Cup of China, 2024). At Cup of China, Isabella also became the first female figure skater to represent the Phillippines in a Grand Prix competition. The pair has also qualified to represent the Phillippines at the 2025 Asian Winter Games and will again be the first skating pair to do so.

For a developing country that doesn't have a shred of ice or winter, this is really significant. :)

For a jump to count as a "first" it needs to be fully rotated and receive positive GOE .
Uhh... I'm afraid you're right!:scratch2: .... So, I'm going to change "land" with "attempt", mantaining the post as not to delete the whole post, because maybe I will write again (and this time righly) "land" when Ilia will land succesfully all these seven jumps the next competitions:biggrin:
By the way, I didn't know it was required a positive GOE, where can I find the regulament?

Thank you to all for contributing! The jumps/elements are easy to find. It's the "firsts" for mostly ISU Championships medals by country :)

I took the liberty of correcting the table, the row for the 4 Lutz.
