Tomorrow evening @ sundown is Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year. We eat sweet foods to symbolize our hopes & wishes for a sweet new year (dipping apples in honey,etc.) It is an introspective holiday when we look back on how we have behaved over the past year. We repent for our sins & strive to be better people in the coming year. We will be in synagogue for the two days of Rosh HaShanah, so if I'm not on here much during that time, you'll know why. For all of the Jewish posters here, Shanah Tovah oo'metookah (a good & sweet year)!

Noticed on the calendar that today is the start of Eid. For anyone who celebrates!

Well, Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement & most solemn day on the Jewish calendar) begins @ sundown tonight. We will have an early dinner & attend synagogue services tonight (ours begin @ 5:50 PM) & for most of tomorrow (I try to get to the daytime services by about 9:30 AM & stay until about 3 PM). Then we go home, take a little nap, & follow the rest of the services on Zoom This is the Jewish holiday when we fast until the very end of the holiday (the following evening). The last thing that happens @ the end of Yom Kippur is that the shofar (ram's horn) is blown. Many families break the fast by having light meals afterwards. Our tradition is usually to have bagels, lox (smoked salmon) & cream cheese with a few accompaniments (tomatoes, lettuce, onions, maybe some whitefish salad as well).

5 days after Yom Kippur, the Jewish people observe the fall harvest festival of Sukkot, a week long holiday (sukkah = hut, sukkot are the temporary huts that the Jewish people stayed in during their wanderings in the desert). Sukkot is "prime time" for Jews to decorate. Two years ago, we were in Israel during Sukkot. This year, we'll be in the Dallas, TX area to visit a cousin & attend Skate America.

My daughter, a violinist, works different cities in Scotland every Hallowe'en playing Danse Macabre with an orchestra. She has a slinky black concert gown she reserves just for that, but says the neckline is so low she doesn't take deep bows in it. Just kind of bobs her head modestly.

I am always amazed at the many different ways black fashion is manifested by orchestra musicians.. they can be very original

at least in Canada, we have TG before Halloween... so when XMAS supplies show up, turkeys have already been on sale

Happy St Andrew's Day to all Scots and those with Scots on their family tree!

i am not spending XMAS at home so I didn't want to bother with a tree that would dry out while I am away.
I got a wooden reindeer and lit it up big time and this amazing balsam fir candle. it smells so good (and it was crazy expensive which will teach me for not looking at prices when i shop) that i feel i am surrounded with trees anyways

And if you have a storage locker, you have a place to stable your reindeer the rest of the year, and entertain your neighbours if it has a slatted door like mine that others can see through
