How Boring Was the US Nats?

I agree there was a lot of ladies, I was disapointed in the coverage as well. I feel the US Nationals have some of the best skating in the world, but maybe they felt the ladies was the big selling feature this year. Sometimes the unknown skaters are the highlights(When I first seen the Chinese Pair at world in Edmonton they got a standing ovation) They were amazing but unknown at that time.

I have followed US Nationals on various skating forums with great interest and seen video clips from many skaters. Not boring at all, I would say.

WOW, for me the ultimate highlight of all skating events - eligible or pro - during season 2006-2007 has been the awesome freeskate by Lysacek in US Nationals. Oh my, that sure was something!!!

Heartbroken for Johnny. (I think many Johnny fans have sensed this ending before the Nationals. Still when the time came, it was like a real loss.) But it was absolutely not boring. I love US Nationals! Everyone of them. The best drama was in the men's singles event in my opinion. Who said the happy ending is better? The most famous and long lasting stories ended tragically, and leave the readers/audiences to think and sorrow.

On a happier note, there will be another Nationals and another ones. There are more dramas ahead.:) I believe Johnny will be great at the Worlds this time.

Alissa was the highlight in the Ladies. (Never liked Kimmie or Emily much before.) Wish she win more medals in the future competitions.

I loved the new pairs' gold medalists, and always loved Tanith and Ben. Something interesting in all four disciplines.

I am looking forward to the next Nationals.

The US media (at least since I've been alive) has always pushed Ladies skating as 'the most interesting'. I don't understand why, I guess maybe it has something to do with the ladies were still winning Olympic titles but the men weren't back before Scott Hamilton... I dunno. *shrugs*... but they weren't the highlight or the most suspenseful at this nationals ;)

I would say that^^ is a factor, but also women are the most beautiful "things" - hate to say it that way but even just viewing in that manner - in the world. And this is the most beautiful of sports. A match made by association.

Give me Kurt Browning over any lady any day ;)

You tell 'em, Toni!
Nats was wonderful up through the dance final for me. The men's and ladies' free skates felt like a letdown. Perhaps because I was pulling for Johnny and Bebe...oh, well. Hopefully, both of them will do better next season.
The emotional highlight of Nats for me was Kimberly and Brent's free dance. Some of my favorite music of all time, cheering for the home team (well, the hometown girl), and watching her Mom cheering them on, after she had helped to teach my first group lesson just two weeks before...it all added up to one big WOW for me, and when Kimberly thanked Brent at the end of the program I just lost it.
Nats wasn't so much boring (IMHO) as it was a bit of a letdown after a huge Olympic year. Perhaps that's also why I haven't been inspired to write a parody about FS since the Grand Prix final.

controversy

Personally, I liked the controversy about completed / down graded triple-triple jumps... but I guess I just like controversy.

That was the one thing I absolutely HATED about Nationals. All that "poor little Rachael wuzrobbed" nonsense made me want to vomit. She cheated and she got called for it. Tough break, I don't care if she is only 14 or however young she is. Not that Kimmie's 3-3 was any great beauty, but lets not victimize Flatt and make Kimmie out to be some kind of criminal.

Top 10 reasons the Nationals were not boring (in no particular order):

1. Brooke and Ben (I guess that's how they will be called in the future)
2. Alissa Czisny
3. Ryan Bradley
4. Evan Lysacek
5. Juliana Canarrozo
6. Danielle Khale
7. Johnny Weir breaking down at K&C
8. Evan dating Tanith
9. The juniors
10. It's a real Nationals, not a Michellefest

exactly!! What a great nationals for all the reason listed above as well as

Nam and Leftherris landing those marvoulus triple toes into triple toes at the start of the program as well as thier triple twist.

Rachel Flatt

Kimmie really deserving her National Title.

Bebe's short program

Belbin and Agosto's new freedance

Gregory and Pethov having a amazing skate

Evan's quad

Having Dick Button back!

No, but I think the controversy was that Kimmie got away with it because she was Kimmie, while Rachael didn't because she was only Rachael.

Doesn't matter. The posters who don't like KImmie, don't like Rachael from what I've been reading.

I can't see how the "Controversy" could be against Kimmie anyhow. She is not the one who scores her jumps or forces anyone to favor her. That would be up to the "panel" regardless, she is powerless to the said controversy.

Not all of them. I like Kimmie, but I am beyond sick of Flatt already. Part of that you can blame on TripleGate, but mostly just because her skating does NOTHING for me and yet Peggy hypes her as the second coming of Christ.

Peggy does that with Kimmie too. I was a little blank on Rachael's LP in particular - looked at it as a growth potential thing. But I would compare Flatt to someone like Flirth or "Bula" and say where is the expression, attitude, life. They (Taylor and Melissa) have presence in spades. But as I am in belief she (Rach) can gain some of that. I was Just happy to see them all in better resolution so as to compare things like that. There are very few skaters I am sick of though.;)

I loved this year's Nationals. The US Nationals are always my favorite competition of the year. I laughingly tell my friends its because US skaters win all the medals!! I've always enjoyed the year following the Olympics because it was when we would get to see the new faces & be able to begin following their careers. This year's ladies event was the discipline I was least looking forward to but was pleasantly surprised with the 13 through 17 year olds. So many talented kids. I was disappointed at the lack of short program coverage for the men but very satisfied with the long program coverage for them. It was a very exciting Nationals overall. Three new National champions? How can that be boring?

Dick Button, Hayes Jenkins and David Jenkins (to name 3) all won their OGMs long before Scott Hamilton.

attyfan, I'm aware of that, it's kinda hard to forget. I was there when they were honored at nationals last year. I was referring to what the US media calls the 'dry period' I am not aware of how closely they followed the men's prior to Scott Hamilton's 'reign'. I haven't seen anything but the media's love for the sweethearts like Peggy and Dorothy and Janet... the only time I read about the US mens team is when one of the men's skaters of the 80s referrs to their heroes in the sport.
