Is there a limit to how many times someone can use a program throughout their career?

We may see this weekend. :)

Riverdance (LP) with Jason at 30, as opposed to Riverdance (SP) with Jason at 19.

He said in a recent interview that he was bringing back Riverdance as a thank you to the fans. Which sounds more like goodbye:cry: than the reworking of adult reflecting on his long career versus a up and coming teenager.
Wow. Kind of hard to imagine what an artistically mature and musically nuanced Riverdance would look like. Maybe we will find out.

I would like to see Jason thank me for my support by redoing The Room Where it Happens. though I suppose that this topical program is no longer current enough for. reprise. To me, that was a great program, but Jason never delivered a perfectly clean performance of it, so it is not as highly regarded.

And you are entitled to that opinion of course: I do not agree. I think both comparing figure skating to other artistic pursuits (because it is at its best an artform) and to other sports (because I also assume we all agree it is a sport) is entirely relevant.
Of course, one could compare figure skating to artistic swimming. That would be relevant.
How would artistic swimming fans feel if their favourite team repeated the same program over and over again?
Of course, the elephant in the room here is that some fans of a specific skater will want to justify reusing the same program over and over because their protégé did it plenty.

I guess it's ecological to reuse and recycle so kudos to skaters who do it. :wonder::scratch2::dbana:

Is it really necessary to start that sort of snidery in yet another thread? @Mathman mentioned Michelle Kwan (6.0 GOAT) after all. You have your opinion, I have mine, and it's not a matter where there is a cut and dried 'right' one.
I am not starting anything here. Just making an observation. We all have our biases and opinions, that's all good with me. Leaving this topic alone for now.

I don’t think I need to mention it, but yes, using the same music again doesn’t mean performing the exact same program. For example, Mao used “Nocturne” again for her SP, but years apart, with different choreography, jump setups, and with more maturity and experience. This gives us a completely new appreciation of the program. That’s creative, and I’m fine with it. The problem is when skaters perform exactly the same program with the same elements and choreography for consecutive seasons. I feel that sometimes it works, and other times it doesn’t, especially when the sport’s rules change, and a program that was performed before no longer carries the same weight in component or technical scores as it did previously.
Edit:
I can understand that in some cases it has to do with each skater’s financial situation, though.”

We could ban repeats of “Never Enough.” Love the idea

Betcha popular vote would keep it in. People (going by popular vote in talent shows) seem to like that song, especially the versions where they go "for me, for me, for meaaaaaaaaahhhhhhyyyyyy" :drama: (my pet peeve)

There is one sure-fire way to stop people singing a particular song on a talent show - do like "Britain's Got Talent" did and invite the original singer to audition as well. Nobody is going to have the nerve to sing somebody's song when they are also there singing it!

For the benefit of those that haven't seen it, here is Loren Allred's 2022 audition:

Loren Allred - "Never Enough"

I have time-stamped the video to skip the sob story she told to get the sympathy vote. A tactic that many contestants use, but which ultimately backfired for Loren when people discovered that, far from being unknown, she did actually have a successful career off the back of the song.

I rather like the idea of keeping 1 programme for two seasons and changing the other. In pair skating a couple would have something new and something old each season. So one a bit more routine (but still challenging) and the other altogether challenging (and the routin slipping in towards the end of the season).

I also don't mind if skaters turn back to a popular programme after a few years, or as Olivia and Tim are now doing: make a sequel of a popular programme. That's about it.

After that it gets boring, and I think the judges will think so too even if they're not allowed to let it impact their scores!
