People watch cricket matches.
If people will do that, skating has a shot.
For me, it's baseball that has all the ingredients for exciting. The continual rise and fall of internal crescendo and resolution. Like figure skating.
Picture it. 2000 World Championships. Michelle Kwan mired in third place after the short program. The heel of her boot becomes detached and her father frantically hammers it back on as best he can, leaving Michelle to skate with one heel higher the the other. She goes out in the free skate -- and hits a triple! The third base coach raises his had -- hold up.
BUT NO! LOOK! She's rounding third and digging for the plate! Here comes the throw! The opposing catcher rushes up the line in a futile attempt o deny her destiny. Cleats flashing like scimitars in the desert sun, Michelle....
Well, you get the idea.
Jump forward to 2026. Bottom of the ninth, two out, nobody on. Alysa at the bat.
WHAM... she's off! She waves at second base while zipping past, now third..
Ninety feet to go, she's charging home!
When was the sport of figure skating the more exciting? 2000? 2026?
[Edit: This post is relevant to the topic of the thread because people will see Alysa's thrilling performance and want to experience more, more, more sporty goosebumps.
