How much overbooting is a criminal offense?

Hey everyone it’s me again (18M 5’6ish ~160lbs). I just recently visited a proshop, and discussed my needs with the staff and tried on a couple of boots. I was surprised that the Edea Models fit me better than the Jacksons (currently in broken down Freestyles), and they settled on three model recommendations for me: the Chorus, Concerto, and Ice Fly. The chorus would be quite a long wait as my size is not available, and they also suggested the Concerto and Ice Flys. I noted that the stiffness difference between the two is 5, how criminal would it be for me to shoot for the Ice Flys? I’m wary about the choruses not only because of the wait but also I want a skate that could last me a long time. Idk if that’s relevant, but thanks!

Concerto. It's been established that you don't need more than Chorus right now, but w/o that being available for awhile you would be okay to go into Concerto, but don't go past it right now. Ice Fly is too much.

You're not going to get a skate that lasts all that long with Edea.

Between Concerto and Ice Fly, the decision should be based on fit and personal preference. Concerto has leather upper, Ice Fly is fully synthetic, and they have very different inner linings. As per Edeas own website, they say that Ice Fly actually has more flexible structure and tongue that bends more, while Concerto is a more traditional boot with more support. How they then figure that Ice Fly support rating is 90, and Concerto 85, don't ask me. I guess they mean that in Concerto you "feel the boot" more.

In any case, you won't be overbooting in either, given your weight, unless you are a total beginner. So I would try both and make the descision based on what fits better. Definitely don't go with a Chorus. Good luck!

Overbooting is not a criminal offense. :) It's more a matter of whether it interferes with your skating.

It's fairly unlikely that a person who fits typical Edea boots will also fit typical Jackson boots. Edeas tend to be thin, and almost the same width toe-to-heel. Jacksons tend to be wide up front, narrow in the back. Have you tried on Riedells? I think they are mostly in between, though over the years, Riedell has had a lot of different shapes.
