How PCS reflects a good/bad performance?

I have long been in favour of heavier PCS penalties for mistake-ridden programs.

After all, at the moment we have a situation where the "winner" of US Nationals actually fell on his backside at the start of his FS and still have a judge give him 10 in PCS. :sarcasm:

haha. who was the skater, Abbott, Adam, Gracie?? I don't recollect the incident but it is a problem that there are too many suspects. ;)

You are welcome to provide a list of skaters here. ;) Help me find good examples.

Rippon at US Nats this year.

Good : SP @ WC 2016 :YAY!! a little disconnected when she enters 3F, Clean, adorable, perfect performance. She exudes her joy at the final STSQ. The excitement and relief that she finally nailed every element perfectly gives her extra glitter and make the performance exceptional.
Bad : SP @ GPF 2015 : Close to the board on 3T in a 3Lz3T combo, Popped to 2F(!), slightly messy spins for my liking, but very very strong performance. I honestly think the performance quality was already very good here.

TES 40.51 32.14 -8.37

In comparing these numbers, factoring needs to be taken into consideration like BOP did in his proposal. So we need to divide the LP numbers by 2 or multiple the SP numbers by 2. However, we can also simply calculate the percentages without factoring.

VB, could you send me a link to BoP's proposal? I can't find it.

These are personal opinions. Everybody thinks their they are the real judge.

Yourself included. That doesn't mean personal opinions aren't formed off a principle they deem fair. Patrick put a hand down, he should not have gotten positive GOE. It is not an opinion. While I differ with a lot of members on opinions, it is also important to listen to the rationale that comes with the opinion.

It seems to be the latest craze on the forum to write off people's opinions because "opinions" but I think it is important to break down where they come from. I personally think that BOP has very biased and extreme opinions, but I think there is a little truth to it that is worth discussing.

TES and PCS are separate evaluators as well though, like Math and English, they can be affected by the same circumstances. Someone having a bad day is likely to do less well in different tests. Lower PCS generally go with lower TES but they should be evaluated separately. A skater may be badly affected by a failed jump, even losing chunk of choreography, while another skater will be up and continuing the performance like it didn't happen. There are common factors affecting both but also some affecting one but not the other. I just can't agree with automatic PCS deduction on account of technical under-performance.

They are separate but that doesn't mean you go jump and then you go do some figures. I don't think it is the right analogy. I gave an example that you conveniently cut out but I think it should be analyzed on a case by case basis. I don't agree with automatic PCS deduction but PCS should not be rewarded to a performance that is not executed as well.

Good : @WC 2016 : 3F< was only visual mistake. she got 3T<, 3Lz!, It was clean and emotional performance. I personally prefer her 2015 Nationals in red dress to this one. It is too emotional and shaky at the end, understandably. though...
Bad : @NHK 2015 : too foot on 3F, turn out of 2A and no planned 2T for a combo, 3Lo<1lo3S<<, 3Lz!, It was her worst performance of this program. She performed nervous with "fear in her eyes" per Tara @NBC
