I feel sorry for Mao

What really, really, worries me is Zhang trying to correct her unorthodox kicking entrance. The puberty monster might kill her jumps, and she might end up like Alyssa.

She has to. In the long term, she cannot compete with Yu-na (perfect jumps) or Mao (3A) without fixing the flutz. She has youth on her side. She consolidated the 3/3 in half a season (she garnered the same GOE as Carolina K for it in the GPF LP). Her 3F is already a lot better (more distance/height, less mule kick), probably as a result of working on it intensively as part of the 3/3. She's also working on a second 3Lz/3T, which she put in her CoC exhibition. But that's almost not worth putting into her program unless she fixes the flutz. But I don't think she will ever end up like Alissa, more likely Sasha -- who despite the flawed jumps still consistently landed on the podium. Sasha usually landed all but one (or, more rarely, two) jumps, whereas Alissa nowadays manages to land 1 or 2 triples altogether...

The one thing about Zhang is that she seems a lot more mentally tough than Alissa!!!!

Really!! Carol Z was quite impressive this season.
Unlike some newbies, even when she skated right after big names, she managed so well!
Untill after SA I was not such a fan of her but now I really like her.:)

I'm not sure I'll ever be a huge fan.. My heart belongs to Yu-na, then Mao. But I'm impressed with her as well. She handles pressure really well, and she has gutz!!!!

With regard to the title of this thread, do I feel sorry for Mao Asada?

Let's see. She's 17. She's in great health, she's at the top of the world in her sport, she's got a billion yen in the bank, she is beloved by millions,...

Mao is so far down the list of people I feel sorry for that her name is not even in sight. :)

Mao has been going through a tough learning experience over the past two years, and getting through it and rising above it is a great life lesson for her. We've all had to go through times like that, although for most of us it is not in the public eye, and our rewards don't begin to stack up to hers.

So----MM is right (as he is most of the time). What's to feel sorry for?

But the greedy part of me secretly hope to see her 3A. There is a clip Yuna practicing 3A earlier last year and though she couldn't fully rotate it, it was ginormous!! just huge and talk about ice coverage!!

So I dunno whether she's going to practice 3A again.
More worries than wishful thinking if she restarts it....

I

yu-na has a big, easy 2 axel, so she coudl probably learn a good 3. but like orser, i have to agree that she dosne't need it. With a clean set of programs she could beat Mao. I think that a second 3/3 would help her more than a 3 axel would beacuse there is more injury risk with the 3 axel. If she had 2 3/3 she would be unbeatable.... wait a minuite.... she already is!

Ammm... Mao has better chance of fixing her flutz than Kim throwing triple axel, so I don't think it's that easy.

I don't feel sorry for Mao.
If she hadn't skated so bad in SP, who knows what would've happened?
It's not cool to discredit Yuna because Mao skated crazy LP and still didn't win. :frown:

BTW, Mao wouldn't be able to fix her flutz that easily. If she tries to fix her flutz, her flip would be affected, too. If Yuna's back problems don't bother her, I think Yuna getting 3A might be easier than Mao fixing her flutz completely (and to be able to use her lutz and flip without problems). But Yuna doesn't need 3A...

Well, JMO.
