Ice Age 2016 (Sotnikova, Trankov...)

To get back to that Ice Age show...I thought Maxim Shabalin and his partner were pretty good for the first week! The costumes were nice, she actually did a bit of skating on her own and not only lifts. If they manage to add to that and improve, I think they have potential!

As for Sotnikova, Russian ladies is a bloodbath. It's not easy to make it out of the country. And as an Oly champ she has opportunities to make money right now, opportunities that won't be around forever. It seems like she has financial obligations, it's understandable if she wants to strike while the iron is hot. There's probably also the usual "I've won Olys, what now?" motivational slump that many ladies seem to have fallen into in the past as well and the fact that there was so much hostility and hatred directed towards her after her win.

She said in interviews after the Olympics that she is utterly motivated to win Worlds, Euros, GPF titles now because all of these titles are still missing from her collections. Yes, she has won the Olympics, but on the other hand she is the only Olympic Champion who has never won a major international title in her senior career (her only gold medal is from a senior B-competition!). I can totally understand that she has financial obligations and that these shows gain her more reputation, which is good. But I find it really unfortunate how she communicated her future plans after Sochi and what she has done since. It is the same this season. She has two competitive programs and then she attends these show - so what does she really want to do?

Maxim Trankov says this was a difficult decision for him. He says Volosozhar wanted him to participate. (Tatiana was sitting among the viewers, the judges wished her health and etc.)
Those who were there, say, that Maxim tried to skate with a mad speed on that small rink. (Was the rink on which they practiced larger?..)

True. But Sarah at least won a GP title and a medal at Worlds - it is even more than Sotnikova achieved. Her best results at Worlds is a 9th place

I always was against this project. If you skate with the best partner in the world, why you should try to skate with somebody who barely can stand on the ice. Yet now it is very interesting for me. First of all, I get a great experience about creating programs, because I need to choreograph programs for youngsters...
The best thing about Julianna is that she likes skating very much. She doesn't let me leave the ice. It happened that we were leaving the rink at 1:00 a.m. or at 2:00 a.m. Julianna is ready to skate all day long. If I say, that I can't skate anymore and I'm sick of ice, I go home, but she stays sometimes and practices alone. I see she really likes it. She asks many questions. I also like Julianna as a person. She has a positive thinking. It is easy to socialize and to practice with her.

^I've been saying this in her fan thread that show skating is not the same as competitive skating. You don't even have the same kind of pressure and the mind set would be different. She doesn't even do more than a 3t and 2a in which she usually fails one or both. Plus she was never consistent as a senior so I would never expect her to just do show skating and show up to nationals with no prior competitions and make the team. But if that's the way she wants to go about it then fine its her life :confused2:

Tell this to Yuzuru - he often says that ice shows are like a training for him.
It's better to do ice shows than nothing- you're still active, you're skating infront of an audience, which can help your nerves ect. Figure skating is not just jumps.
Do you think skaters, especially champions who are still competing, don't feel the pressure in ice shows? Everyone is watching and judging them, they have to show why they're champions, they have to skate great.

Do you know what "euphoria" is? We are talking about a 17 yo girl that just participated and won the biggest competition in life. Can you imagine how a teenager feels like in such a situation? The adrenaline, euphoria it's like a drug, you have the feeling you can do everything. That's why she was so motivated in the interview after her win. But after you calm down, you're back in the reality.
And i think it doesn't matter how many competitions an "olympic champion" has won. It's just a competition like every other competition. If you did enogh at that day, you won. It's the same at worlds and other competitions.
People just like this excuse "nah, you have to win other competitions to be a "real" olympic champion."
No, that's not true. You just have to win a competition and you are a champion, that's what this is about. It doesn't matter what you did before or after :confused2:

We see the results though. With current depth of field in Russia and a queue of talented juniors, what Adelina currently does is just plain not enough.

At 2016 Worlds, 5 ladies scored over 210. Last time Adelina got a score above 210 in an international competition was in Sochi.

In fairness, scores have escalated since Sochi. Gracie would never have scored 211 at the Olympics with her Boston programs. (Mostly because her SP score was insanely inflated.)

By the way, those "White roses" (the number for Staviski and Medvedeva) is a mad contrast for the Russians. :shocked:
:sad46: This is an extremely sensitive pop song, which a boy with pink cheeks was singing. Something like Justin Bieber. He says to roses: "People use you only for a few days to beautify their celebration, and then they let you die on a cold white window-ledge..." He says roses are defenceless, even with their burrs.
Girls were in love with this boy, he was extremely popular, but it seems, boys and adult people always thought, that this sensitive song was a bad taste.

In the number by Staviski we hear the voice of another singer, but everybody remember that sweet boy and the song is still extremely sensitive... The number is weird, but maybe it is nice to see people trying to be happy, even if they can't be young and beautiful... People trying to live while they are alive...

I think I like the idea, even though it isn't beautiful.

It is hard. Indeed. It happened, that even for Averbukh it was hard to listen to comments. Trankov suffers like this for the first time, and... I think he can't be as calm as Vasiliev. And Trankov's girl is injured... Trankov knows, that she is injured. He says they were leaving the rink at 1:00 a.m. or at 2:00 a.m.

Trankov's mood is not so bad. He is patient.
Yet actually... this time the judges were praising them. Even Pushkina.

I hope Trankov will learn to be more active and confident, when they practice. Yet I think he does all he can. These conditions are really hard, maybe he is just very tired.


By the way, Averbukh started to speak about the tour of the "Ice Age" (Jan 2017 and later), and now there is no Sotnikova among the skaters, who is going to the tour. Maybe she isn't going for sure, maybe she hasn't decided yet...
And no Trankov in that list.
