Hi everyone, I am working on some experimentation for a project and I thought I would post it here because presumably there are some skaters in this group.

I'm looking for existing or new videos of skaters where blade sounds are clearly audible. I’ll be using these sounds to create new musical works like this one:
https://youtu.be/3zV2U5tErjc?si=TXYWO3kG54bRqiwV

it could be anything from smaller clips of jumps or tricks to longer clips, if you want! Also really all ages and levels, it could be anything, mostly as long as the sound is really clear from the blade and you can see the match with the video.

Some works will use the sound directly, and others may use blade noise as a musical controller via amplitude tracking, like this:

You can:
  • Send me videos you've already posted (Instagram links, YouTube, etc.) if you're happy for me to use the audio
  • Or send raw/new videos directly to: [email protected]
(Feel free to reach out with any questions!)
Deadline: July 1, 2025

I’ll try to turn as many as possible into cool musical works, both with and without video, and will credit contributors.
I really don't want to use private clips without permission, which is why I established this as a call, even though I know there are quite a lot of existing videos people have posted to their own instagram and other socials.

Here are links to my SoundCloud and YouTube if you want to know more about my work or what I do.

This is an interesting project because I would suppose that a figure skater's goal would be for the blades to be as silent as possible. I have even wondered, iwith respect to using AI in an evaluation or judging role, if the Skating Skills component could be measured somehow ny the sounds of the blade on the ice.

And the level and type of sound (none, you hope, but it does happen) can vary, at least with jump and lift landings, depending on what's under the ice, concrete or sand.
