Report: XXXX

As has become the norm in recent years, the Irish Championships were held in conjunction with the IJS Skate Southern competition.

After all the excitement of multiple entries in all categories last season, there were not very many entries at all this year. Senior Men and Advanced Novice Ladies had two entries, while the others only had one.

As you all know, I am a Northerner. So, I was delighted with the result in Senior Men. Sam and Conor shared the segments, but Sam won due to his massive lead from the SP (TEN POINTS!!! ).

WELL DONE SAM!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

McAllister has a more ambitious technical program, with 3Lz and 3F. It will be interesting to see if he can qualify for Euros next season (for the moment he doesn't meet the TES, but with his SP at Nats, he could do so).

By the way, why are the Irish Nats held in London?

By the way, why are the Irish Nats held in London?

That's a good question. When I asked the Irish FSA a couple of years ago, I was told it's "more convenient for everybody". Though I wonder how? Sam trains in Sheffield and Conor in Dundee, the travel to a rink in NI would probably be the same if not less distance. I think it's mainly because the competition is already organized and taking place anyway at Lee Valley, so the Irish FSA just enter their skaters and piggy back their Championships onto it. Though why they choose Skate Southern in East London, I can't say for sure. Maybe the timing and cost is convenient for the Irish FSA?

Wow, they even had a workshop and seemed to all stay in Stratford. It's not the West End, but it's not inexpensive either.
